Intro

This build is designed to give you a very strong early game on Wylder by abusing the synergy between Night of the Miasma and Slate Whetstone. The general idea is to use the chilling mist night of the miasma gives you on your starting weapon to frostbite enemies and then do a grapple follow up attack which infuses your weapon with fire damage to reset the frostbite and repeating that cycle until the enemy dies.

You can choose to upgrade your basic weapon and continue to do this throughout the entire run but damage will start to fall off and you will miss out on the elemental damage weakness of the nightlord you are fighting. So this is more intended to take pressure off day 1 and early day 2 allowing you to quickly set yourself up.

Once you have stopped using your starting weapon though it is still worth keeping it or some form of frostbite around to take advantage of the temporary stealth and damage buff Night of the Miasma gives you. This is especially valuable in solo mode as the stealth can be a very powerful solution for larger groups of enemies.

Equipment Loadout

REQUIRED!!!

  • Night of the Miasma
  • Slate Whetstone - or any other relic that gives you the Wylder grapple follow up attack that buffs greatswords with fire damage
  • Wylder's Chalice - The relic vessel you get from his remembrance quest is needed to equip all the required relics

Remaining Relic Slot (recommendations)

  • Any relic with ultimate art gauge +3
  • Night of the Fathom very useful for multiplayer
  • Night of the Wise if you are planning on sticking with this one weapon this will also help
  • any relic with "gain additional skill charge". Very useful for rotating quickly on wylder
  • Grand Burning Scene One can be purchased (late game) from the jar that has increased rune gain for yourself and allies, start with a stonesword key and discounted merchants.

Weapons

Generally just best to try and find the right element to counter whichever Nightlord you are fighting but in the case that is not possible try and pick up greatswords or quality (dex+str) scaling weapons and if you have the option frostbite weapons are a good choice too because of Night of the Miasma.

Weapons like these are the ideal:

Dormant Powers

There isn't really anything unique or specific you are looking for here. Generally you just want any +% phys or affinity damage, +% phys or affinity damage reduction, +% stance breaking and others that are similar. The only one I'm going to mention specifically is Inflict Blood Loss at Low HP which is absurdly powerful as low hp seems to be just below half and the blood loss added to your weapon lasts a very long time even after you are no longer low health.

Game Plan and Pathing

Day 1

Head to smaller camps first clearing out bosses and groups of enemies taking advantage of the stealth Night of the Miasma gives you to get free backstabs and lose aggro. Heading to the castle to take out the trolls/banished knights/crucible knights next is a good source of runes. Alternatively you could continue clearing out other locations. If there is an abundance of locations with the Nightlord's elemental weakness its best to head for those first to secure a strong weapon.

Day 2

Start clearing out larger camps and world bosses/go straight to the shifting land if there is one. Heading back to the main castle can also be quite good as you can probably easily clear out the regular enemies and also kill the roof and basement boss for an enormous sum of runes. Ensure that you have your weapon set up and ready for the Nightlord.

Day 3

Hopefully hit the boss until it dies which if all went to plan should be very quickly

Additional Tips

  • The follow up attack with Slate Whetstone doesn't use stamina so can be very useful for getting more dps out in early game when you have very little stam.
  • You can charge Wylders ult for a bigger stun, more damage and you wont get blasted back after using it
  • You can jump just as you reach the end of your grapple to extend the distance you travel
  • You can ult mid air after a grapple to extend the distance you go but this is really a last resort
