Build Overview

The Ball Lightning Sorcerer is one of the most powerful builds in all of Diablo 4. Combining a constant swarm of Ball Lightning around you with the power of Unstable Currents makes everything in sight get instantly vaporized by your endless torrent of Lightning. Oh... did I mention you also passively throw nearly every other lightning spell in the game too?! If you like being able to Teleport infinitely while frying monsters in an instant this is the build for you!

This skills are explained down in the skill tree section.

Enchantment Slot

1. Ball Lightning is a no brainer because it throws more of our most powerful spell, but there are several good choices for the second slot.

2. Meteor is one of the best options for speedfarming because it generates more stacks of Overpower -> guaranteeing you can teleport infinitely. You could also go for Chain Lightning for extra damage, but this is much more powerful if you are spending a lot of mana (which you might not be because teleporting with your cooldowns up might be enough). Finally another good one is Blizzard because you can have it with you almost all the time when you directly land on enemies. It does decent damage immediately and gives the build a righteous fire feeling.

Stat Priority

Like nearly every other endgame build, to deal damage we need to target Critical Hit Chance, along with all the multipliers we can find: xVulnerable, xLightning, xCritical Strike Damage, and xAll Damage. Finding GAs of these and Masterworking them up is key.

Getting +Ranks to Ball Lightning and Core Skills (assuming they fix the bug) is another great way to increase your damage.

Finally, Cooldown Reduction is extremely helpful for keeping Unstable Currents up at all times. If its coming off cooldown often, you can even Temper this on your gear.

Runewords

Cir Vex is a godly way to apply +3 to all skills. If you don't have Vex, use Ceh in the meantime to get wolves to apply Vulnerable for you.

Bac Gar is a quick way to get 10% more Critical Hit Chance. We only use this on the non-unique version while we are gearing up as we won't need it eventually to reach 100% crit. If you don't have a Bac Rune or don't want to waste it on starter gear use Nagu, Moni or Igni.

Igni Mot is the best defensive option for late game play.

Talismans

Talisman Priority
+7

Ranks to Shock Skills is critical to have on all charms. This obviously increases your damage, but also extends Unstable Currents to give us more time to reset it's cooldown with Crackling Energy.

For your Seal look for the +1 Charm Slot as a priority. After that is acquired you can hope to find Cooldown Reduction, Shock Skill Damage or Damage on it.

The Godslayer Crown Charm is amazing for this build since it constantly pulls enemies on top of you to get blasted by your Ball Lightning. If you don't have it consider using some of these other good Unique Charms: Endurant Faith, Esu's Heirloom or Flickerstep.

Skill Tree

Available0 (0)
Spent69 (14)

The easiest way to understand this tree is by looking at our ultimate Unstable Currents. This is going to cast Ball Lightning, Lightning Spear, Chain Lightning and Charged Bolts. Since we are stacking +Shock skills everywhere - these all do decent damage even though Ball Lightning is the star of the show. That's why we take upgrades for all of these skills. In theory you could cherry pick upgrades here and there and save some points to throw into Ice Armor, but I've found these skills to still hit for billions of damage, and their utility to be useful.

Along the same lines, our charm set bonus is going to throw our masteries everywhere - that's why we put points into those. Notice that Healing Flames Familiar and Overpower Meteor generate overpower stacks, letting us jump infinitely from Blaze Teleport.

Lastly, Ice Armor keeps us alive, and Frigid Hydra Hydra satisfys the require for Aspect of Elemental Constellation.

Mercenary

Varyana is great since she pulls enemies onto herself with Whirlwind, Gives you a more Movement Speed and applies Vulnerable.

Raheir will dive in to save you from a heavy hit, as well as give you Bastion to deal more damage.

Paragon Board

Note that Unleash, Tactician and Elementalist only to meet their stat requirements to be at all power, giving us more points to go after more Rare Nodes on the tree after maxing Destruction and Adept.

Unleash may not be needed as you get godly gear, but its nice to have for the mana regen. Other options would be Exploit or Reinforced.

How it Plays

The main focus of this build is keeping up Unstable Currents up while spamming Ball Lightning so you constantly have tons of them swirling around you.

Always cast Familiar before using Blaze Teleport, since it'll give you Overpower stacks to make sure Teleport never goes on Cooldown. Once you have 5 pieces of your Berú of the Threefold Overpower Meteor is going to mostly take care of the Overpower Stacks for you.

Keep up your Ice Armor at all times.

Make sure you always have a Hydra down so you get the benefits of Cooldown Reduction Hydra.

------------------------------------

With these things in mind, you simply Teleport through zones onto enemies. Cast Ball Lightning a few times between each Teleport and let your Godslayer Crown pull enemies onto you. Rinse and repeat.

When on a Boss or tough Elite, just make sure Unstable Currents is up, that you have a Hydra down, and spam Ball Lightning until they die.

You'll be a rapidly Teleporting, enemy sucking, conduit of death as you fly through any content in the game.
