Build Overview

The Ancient Bro'Barian build relies on Summons to deal massive amounts of damage at once. We are using the new updated skill tree, paired with Arreat's Bearing and Berú of Bul-Kathos' Pride set to command an army! This is not a pet build, pets are for Druids, it's not a minion build, Minions are for Necromancers. This is the Barbarian Summoning build, summoning our Ancestors to fight along side us!

Please read through the How it works section of the planner and if you have further questions you can join me live on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok and X. Arsenal Selection

This build will be running on a Two-handed Mace set up. Depending on the variant Mighty Throw or Leap will have your Two-handed Mace selected as your weapon assignment.

Leveling Guide: Ancient Leveling Guide

Variant breakdown

  • Legendary is your starter. This will be fresh to 70, just putting gear together.
  • Leap will have options to add Mythics, is very fast and can kill bosses. Video Guide
  • Speed is mainly for Nightmare Dungeons, Helltides, The Undercity and Pit 115 and lower. Video Guide
  • Selig is for tanky, not worrying about dying gameplay. It is the weakest variant but the tankiest.
  • Push can be used for any content, it isn't always the fastest but you can swap in Leap for content outside the Pits/Tower.

BUG NOTES

  • There is currently a bug with Aspect of Anger Management overriding the damage from Battle-Mad Aspect so it has been changed on the planner for now. Earthstriker's Aspect has been moved to the boots slow and Aspect of Heavenly Strength will be on the pants until it's fixed.
  • Crusher is currently not working for Two-handed Maces. Replace with Challenger
  • Hellbent Commander Aspect is not currently giving damage to Rallying Cry Ancients replace with Vehement Brawler's Aspect

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Endgame damage
  • Many ways for Resource Generation
  • Some variants can be squishy
  • Rotation heavy

Technique

When choosing your Barbarian Weapon Expertise Technique, you do not have to be using the weapon of the Weapon Expertise Technique you chose.

This is only an example to help you understand how Expertise works. Refer to the Arsenal Selection for this builds set up:

  • Expertise chosen is Polearm - 15%(x) increased Lucky Hit Chance and you deal 15(x) increased damage while healthy
  • Arsenal Selection: Mace - Lucky Hit: Chance to gain 5 Fury when hitting an enemy. Double the amount of Fury gained while Berserking and you deal 15(x) Critical Strike Damage while Berserking.

With the above set up, you gain the Weapon Expertise Technique bonus of having your Arsenal Selection set to Two-Handed Mace, as well as the Weapon Expertise Technique bonus for the Polearm Technique.

How it Plays

Ancient Leap Rotation

  • Start with Rallying Cry to spend Fury and summon Madawc
  • Use Leap and hold down the key-bind for it.
    • With Chainscourged Mail hold down Leap and Rallying Cry only until you find a big pack of monsters or an Elite.
  • Use Leap, Rallying Cry, Challenging Shout, and War Cry at the same time.
  • Cast Call of the Ancients to reset your cooldowns of all of the above by utilizing Aspect of Apogeic Furor.
  • Use Mighty Throw to reset the cooldown of Call of the Ancients
  • Use War Cry and Challenging Shout to reset the cooldown of Call of the Ancients

Ancient Push Rotation

  • Start rotation at the beginning of the dungeon to build up Maximum Resolve stacks.
  • Iron Skin will build your Resolve Stacks. Use this immediately on cooldown through the entire dungeon.
  • Use Rallying Cry and spam it.
  • Start with Call of the Ancients
  • Use War Cry and Challenging Shout to activate Marshal
  • Use Mighty Throw to take 10 seconds off of Call of the Ancients cooldown.
  • Use War Cry and Challenging Shout to activate Marshal
  • Cast Call of the Ancients
  • Use War Cry and Challenging Shout to activate Marshal
  • Use Mighty Throw to take 10 seconds off of Call of the Ancients cooldown.

Repeat this cycle. It takes time to get the timing and practice down. See notes for specific breakpoints.

How it Works

Build Overview

If you would like a complete overview of how the Barbarian works use this video guide: Barbarian Deep Dive

This build relies on the power of Ancients you summon to do all the damage for you. You pair this with Aspect of Apogeic Furor and it allows you to reset your cooldowns of all of your skills, and have constant uptime. Each skill also summons an Ancient, so the faster we cast our skills, the more Summons we have.

For the Push variant, we are relying on specific Cooldown breakpoints and Mightiest Mighty Throw with Empowered Call of the Ancients. This gives us more Summons which is more damage. It works because Mightiest Mighty Throw now becomes an Ultimate skill, so it also activates Aspect of Apogeic Furor. This has a very strict rotation which will require some practice.

Because most of these variants are not running Melted Heart of Selig, they can be a bit squishy at times, however you can stand away from your enemies, cast your Ancients and still kill everything.

Arsenal Selection

This build will be running on a Two-handed Mace set up. Depending on the variant Mighty Throw or Leap will have your Two-handed Mace selected as your weapon assignment.

Overpower

Overpower has changed with the launch of the Lord of Hatred. By default every player can gain 4 stacks. There are ways of increasing that through aspects like Tidal Aspect. It is no longer a multiplier, it acts as a buff to your damage. There are ways of taking that buff and turning it into multipliers with items like Banished Lord's Talisman. The one thing that Overpower does is add a lot of additive damage. This is harder to come by, so it becomes a very valuable resource.

Depending on how you build your build, you will have several different ways of generating overpower. It will be important to maintain the buff. Your overpower buff will last for 4 seconds and then 1 stack will be removed. If you have something like Blood Boiling Aspect and you pair it with Dominate eventually will have stacks of overpower 100% of the time. This is just one example of how you can gain Overpower stacks.

If you want to learn the basics about Multipliers watch this video: Additive vs. Multiplicative Damage video.

How this build uses Overpower

This build will give you 4 stacks of Overpower. We are also gaining from Blood Boiling Aspect which is our most important Aspect for this build. Because your stacks fall off one at a time every 4 seconds, every 6 seconds Blood Boiling Aspect adds another rank of Overpower and you will never lose your stacks. If you are running a variant with the Banished Lord's Talisman after you spend 275 Fury, you will also gain 4 stacks. This is the fastest way to build Overpower Stacks.

Fury Management

The only Fury spender in this build is Rallying Cry. If you run out of Fury it's ok, it's not going to stop Summons from spawning. It means you just don't get the Ancient from Rallying Cry. This will only be an issue in the Push variant because of Crown of Lucion. To solve this issue.

  • Chance to Restore Primary Resources as an affix will be activated by your Summons
    • You will need it on both Dual-wield weapons and your Two-handed Slashing weapon.
  • If this isn't enough, you can add Resource Generation onto your Amulet temper.

Defense (Non-Selig)

  • Take all defense nodes inside the Paragon board first. All Maximum Life, Resistances, and Armor nodes.
  • You can use glyphs like Ire or Territorial to help keep yourself alive.
  • Make sure all your gear has Maximum Life on it and you can then add Resistances, and Armor as needed.
  • Life on Hit is a great option for you, but it will only heal you when you hit with Leap

Combos Setups For Any Variant

  • Leap
    • Chainscourged Mail + Arreat's Bearing + Ring of Starless Skies + Empowered Call of the Ancients - Most Ancients
    • Chainscourged Mail + Crown of Lucion + Ring of Starless Skies + Empowered Call of the Ancients - Stronger with less Ancients
    • Arreat's Bearing + Crown of Lucion + Ring of Starless Skies + Empowered Call of the Ancients - Strongest but slower Leap
  • Bosses / Push
    • Arreat's Bearing + Banished Lord's Talisman + Mighty Throw + Iron Skin + Empowered Call of the Ancients
