This one is for my boy Buu (yeah, like the Dragon Ball character). He wanted a pure fire-themed Warlock build and he’s not a fan of the Abyss playstyle at all. So we put together the Blazing Scream just for him.

It’s a full-on fire focused build that leans hard into the Vanguard archetype, lots of Hellfire, explosions, and that satisfying “burn everything” feeling. If you like big fire damage and hate shadow stuff, this is the one for you. Let’s get into it.

This guide is work in progress and more updates are coming in as we get more information closer to the Lord of Hatred launch.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Burst Damage
  • Epic to play
  • Very tanky
  • AOE could be bigger
  • Strong, but not highest pit push

Build Variants

Mythic Items

This build variant uses mythic items, but they’re not necessary for the build to run.

The only real necessary item is, of course, the unique ring called @Eightfold Idol. Which to be honest isn't even mandatory, it's just that we don't get procs of our Sigil without it.

Skills

In terms of skills, we use Command Fallen to generate resources and Dominance, but you can remove it if you don’t really need the extra resource.

Blazing Scream is one of your main damage dealers, but its real job is to release Trails of Fires that get massively amplified by the @Eightfold Idol.

We also run Sigil of Subversion, which gets procced automatically by the @Eightfold Idol through Blazing Scream. We turned it into a Hellfire skill so it benefits from Metamorphosis.

Metamorphosis is your big damage multiplier in this build. The only downside is that it burns your HP while it’s active. I’m not sure if everyone will enjoy that kind of playstyle, so if you don’t like it you can just remove Metamorphosis and the build will still work fine.

Demonic Smash Rampage is our mobility skills, consumes dominance, so it can't be spammed non stop.

Items

There are only a couple things worth mentioning for items in this build.

First, you absolutely need the @Eightfold Idol ring. Without it, your Sigil of Subversion does basically no damage. The build is still completely playable without the ring, but it loses a big chunk of its power.

Second, the Doombringer with Life on Hit is really good in this build. Since Metamorphosis burns through your HP, having solid life on hit helps you stay alive much more comfortably.

The Heir of Perdition is not necessary, but the extra movement speed it gives feels really nice with how this build plays.

If you're hunting for Mythic items, your best bet right now is still farming Duriel and Andariel. For regular uniques, Belial is the best place to target farm.

Talismans

I opted to run with the Beru of Abaddon's Flesh, set charm, which increases our damage but also increases our life. At the same time, the last passive set allows us to leave Metamorphosis form and still benefit from the buffs in case our HP gets drained too heavily.

For stats: Using maximum life and Hellfire skills ranks is a no-brainer in this build. Since we need to stack HP to increase our damage, that choice was pretty easy.

For the final charm, I decided to use the Godslayer Crown as the special effect. This gives us a little bit more of a pulling effect, which helps group enemies together for our fire skills.

Paragon Board

Glyphs & Paragon

For glyphs and Paragon, you can take any legendary nodes that increase your damage.

Don’t spend too much time trying to fully complete one board. Just prioritize grabbing your legendary nodes first.

I don’t have a fully optimized Paragon board yet because the new expansion just dropped. So for now, focus on the legendary nodes early and worry about glyphs later, especially since you won’t have maxed glyphs at the beginning of the season anyway.

Mercenary

For mercenaries, I’m running Subo. His Opening Fire skill gives a nice increase to critical strike damage, but the real reason I like him here is the extra movement speed you get whenever you damage elite enemies. It’s always welcome.

Our secondary mercenary is Varyana. She gives a solid chunk of attack speed through her Bloodthirst skill, which feels really good with all the minions running around.

How it Plays

Here’s the simple rotation for the Blazing Scream build:

  1. Use Command Fallen whenever you need more resources or Dominance.
  2. Blazing Scream is your main core skill. Spam this constantly, it also activates your Sigil of Subversion thanks to the @Eightfold Idol.
  3. Pop Metamorphosis at the start of every big fight. It burns some of your HP but massively increases the ranks of your skills while it’s active.
  4. Use Demonic Smash Rampage for mobility and to reposition quickly when you need to.

That’s basically the whole rotation. Keep spamming Blazing Scream, refresh Command Fallen when you’re low, and use Metamorphosis on cooldown for big fights. Everything else is just extra. Super straightforward once you get used to it.

How it Works

The way this build works is pretty interesting. The core of everything is the unique ring @Eightfold Idol. It makes your Blazing Scream trails proc the damage from Sigil of Subversion.

We’re also using the Skullsplitter upgrade for Blazing Scream, which makes it shoot out smaller skull projectiles that also apply trails. I haven’t fully tested yet if those skulls also trigger the @Eightfold Idol damage, but they should.

Metamorphosis is your big damage multiplier. The whole build scales with how much HP you have, but the downside is that the specific passive for Metamorphosis burns your HP while it’s active. That’s why I added a lot of HP recovery and regeneration into the build. They might even nerf this interaction later, so we’ll see.

Demonic Smash Rampage with the Demonic Smash passive turns it into a strong mobility skill that also does decent damage.

And if you want more pulling power and AoE, you can use the Godslayer Crown with your set charm. Blazing Scream can knock down enemies and proc the pull effect from the crown, giving you some nice grouping.

Overall it’s a fun fire build that revolves around spamming Blazing Scream while Metamorphosis is up and keeping your HP high.
