Build Overview

The Blessed Shield Paladin Build Guide teaches you about Gear, Skills, Paragon, Playstyle & Seasonal Mechanics in Diablo 4 Season 12.

Captain America is back! Throw Shields at your enemies while zooming through the levels. This build is super easy to pick up and has a clear progression. Judgement is important to fuel your Shield of Justice Blessed Shield. Initially you give up some damage by going Disciple, using Condemn and Falling Star to ascend. Later when you progress to the Endgame you cast Reach of the Law Arbiter of Justice directly, unlocking more powerful synergies.

Early on, we use Disciple to ascend into Arbiter of Justice by using Condemn or Falling Star until we have enough Cooldown Reduction and Arbiter Duration to sustain it through the actual Skill. We lose damage from Judicator but that's something we are going to have to live with.

Our way of applying Judgement is through Reach of the Law Arbiter of Justice, spread by Judgement Day. We then detonate it with Blessed ShieldShield of Justice, empowering our following throws.

    • If you have Uniques check out the Endgame Variant.

To know where to farm all the Uniques you need for the build, make sure to check out the Boss Loot Tables Guide.

Getting multiple great passives on an Amulet can be tricky or expensive. In the Frequently Asked Questions section, you can find a Tier List with all the Affixes you can get on your Amulet.

Bloodied Affixes to chase:

  • S-Tier:
    • Primary Core Stat per KIll Streak (Armor and Shield)
    • Every 25 Kills, gain Berserking for 4 seconds (Weapon)
  • A-Tier:
    • Cooldown Reduction per Killstreak Tier (Armor and Shield)
    • Attack Speed per Killstreak Tier (Armor and Shield) until Attack Speed cap
    • Critical Strike Chance per Killstreak Tier (Armor and Shield) until Critical Strike Chance cap
  • B-Tier:

    • Maximum Life per Killstreak Tier (Armor and Shield)

Elixirs and Incenses

ElixirElixir of Advantage
Core IncenseAncient Times
Defensive IncenseReddamine Buzz
Resistance IncenseSoothing Spices

It's important to run Elixirs and Incenses at all times. Not only because they increase your Experience gain but also because they provide very strong combat boosts.

We use Elixir of Advantage for Attack Speed and Ancient Times for Strength.

Soothing Spices and Reddamine Buzz makes us tankier.

How it Plays

Starter

  • Ascend into Arbiter of Justice by casting Condemn or Falling Star
    • Avoid falling out of Arbiter of Justice to keep stacking Aspect of Celestial Strife and Aspect of Ascension.
    • Arbiter of JusticeReach of the Law applies Judgement.
    • Shield of Justice Blessed Shield detonates and consumes Judgement for increased Damage.
  • Fanaticism Aura is used for its buffs.
  • Defiance Aura provides buffs and Unstoppable on demand.
  • Use Rally to sustain your Faith.
  • Use Falling Star for mobility.
  • Use Condemn to group enemies.

Endgame/Mythic

  • Instead of using Condemn or Falling Star to ascend, you will have to cast Arbiter of Justice directly.

How it Works

Core Mechanics

Damage

Our damage comes from Blessed HammerShield of Justice. We scale it by applying Judgement with Arbiter of JusticeReach of the Law. This is further enhanced by Judgement Day, which spreads the Judgements and grants us damage and Judicator, which also grants damage when we Judge enemies.

Arbiter of Justice is also a very powerful damage mutliplier by including Aspect of Celestial Strife and Aspect of Ascension in our build.

Runes

Early on, useCir + Gar for Critical Strike Chance, once we get Heir of Perdition we can swap this out.

Cem + Que is used for tankiness on Argent Veil Variants.

Igni + Thul is used for Vulnerable, CC for Dizzying Blow and [x]15% damage.

Early on, we need some kind of Lum runeword to help sustain our Energy despite having access to Rally.

The best Offering generators are:

  1. Cem if you have Argent Veil.
  2. Igni
  3. Bac
  4. Poc
  5. Cir

Resource Management

Faith per Second on our gear along with Rally is our main source of sustain. Before Ring of Starless Skies, we also use a Valor Skills Generate Primary Resource Tempering Affix.

Rite of Might, how are we generating Resolve?

We generate Resolve with the Courage Passive that is granted to us by Shroud of False Death.

Alternatively, on some builds we generate it more consistently with Clash or Fortress.

Where are we getting Fortified from?

  • To count as being Fortified, any amount of Fortification will do.
  • We boost the Fortified amount with some magic nodes on Preacher.
  • Raheir, your mercenary, also provides a bit of Fortify through his ability.
  • Renewal gives Fortify and is provided by Shroud of False Death for free.
