Build Overview

War Plans and Prime Evil Powers are located on Selig Variant

The Whirlwind Barbarian is insanely strong and fast. This planner will teach you how to put together all the gear, skills and paragon boards for this iconic skill. This planner will also help you solve all your Fury Management issues, explain aspects that may be a little confusing and cover what weapons to set your skills to. There are several variations in the planner so read through.

The Barbarians this season will all be running some variation of the Melted Heart of Selig + Endurant Faith or Endurant Faith. While this is not a requirement it does make very tanky. The Melted Heart of Selig was changed, so you will no longer be "Immortal", but it is still the best defensive option. Each planner will have variants without it, but this will be your end-game version you're striving for.

Please read through the How it works section of the planner and if you have further questions you can join me live on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok and X. If you have questions while I'm not live, join Discord. We have a team and community ready to answer all your questions! You can also check out Cliptis.com for a collection of all my How-To guides.

ENCHANTING BUG:

There is currently a bug with Enchanting on console. You cannot change an affix on any of the Runewords unless you use a mouse. All consoles have mouse and keyboard support. This is the only solution until Blizzard patches it.

Infinity (2h Mace) should be crafted on a Two-handed Mace. This also will be your one "Upgrade To Mythic" from the Horadric Cube. There is no Mythic version of the Rune Words so using on this gives you a big damage boost. Infinity (2h Mace) has a random stat on it, so if you do no get Physical Damage Multiplier you will just keep on creating new ones until you do.

Technique

When choosing your Barbarian Weapon Expertise Technique, you do not have to be using the weapon of the Weapon Expertise Technique you chose.

This is only an example to help you understand how Expertise works. Refer to the Arsenal Selection for this builds set up:

  • Expertise chosen is Polearm - 15%(x) increased Lucky Hit Chance and you deal 15(x) increased damage while healthy
  • Arsenal Selection: Mace - Lucky Hit: Chance to gain 5 Fury when hitting an enemy. Double the amount of Fury gained while Berserking and you deal 15(x) Critical Strike Damage while Berserking.

With the above set up, you gain the Weapon Expertise Technique bonus of having your Arsenal Selection set to Two-Handed Mace, as well as the Weapon Expertise Technique bonus for the Polearm Technique.

Frequently Asked Questions

Build Overview

This build runs relies on Rallying Cry to give us insane amounts of movement speed and Fury Generation. All the damage we use to increase Whirlwind also increases Tornado Whirlwind. We gain those damage increases from Mighty Roar War Cry, Damage Bonus Challenging Shout and Berserking Wrath of the Berserker. All of this combines together for some massive damage!

Variant Breakdown:

  • Legendary is your starter build as you transition outside of your leveling build.
  • Unique is your mid-game transitioning to your late game build.
  • Mythic will be your entry level end-game build. This variant is where you transition into Melted Heart of Selig. This variant still runs Maximum Life.
  • Selig is your final goal. Running Melted Heart of Selig eventually gives the most survivability and damage even though it runs zero Maximum Life.
    • If you find yourself dying with this variant because of Iron Skin adding Maximum Life you can replace it with Leap. You can take Arsenal Bonus Leap and Crusher for a little extra damage.
  • Current Setup is what I am actually wearing in game as I work towards the Selig variant.

Expertise Breakdown

Sources of Maximum Fury

  • Affixes on Helmets, Chest Piece and Amulet
  • Charms
  • Warbringer and Weapons Master Paragon Boards
  • Ramaladni's Magnum Opus
  • Melted Heart of Selig

New Uniques

  • Stone of Jordan requires us to stack Physical Resistances. You get this from Charms, Tempers and if needed Affixes.
  • Insight (Polearm) looks to be the best option over The Grandfather. Most testing is being done for damage buckets but the utility this brings to the table is top notch.
  • Spirit (1h Sword) is going to be tested. It does give increased damage to Ramaladni's Magnum Opus and ranks to Whirlwind and Wrath of the Berserker but these are already diluted buckets with how many ranks and how much fury we normally have so an aspect may be the most optimal here. Keep watch for the changelog
  • Enigma has great Damage Reduction, Movement Speed, a Teleport but does require some hefty Cooldown Reduction to make sure that Wrath of the Berserker stays active all the time. This is a source of Fury Generation and Unstoppable, which are hard to live without especially playing with Melted Heart of Selig. If you don't have 100% up time, use Rage of Harrogath and Two-handed Sword Expertise until you can maintain.
  • Infinity (2h Mace) will be best in slot for the Barbarian's this season, but only if you upgrade it to a Mythic. This should be your crafted item. This is the biggest damage that is active all the time, The Furnace is big damage against elites but slows down progression in the Pits because you gain zero damage to normal monsters and your progress bar doesn't move as quickly.

Set up #1 (Most Tanky):

  • Aspect of Heavenly Strength on Amulet
  • Rage of Harrogath on Chest
  • Aspect of Berserk Ripping on Ring
  • Full Throttle Wrath of the Berserker
  • Aspect of Coagulation on Pants

Set up #2 (Less Tanky More Damage)

  • Aspect of Heavenly Strength on Pants
  • Rage of Harrogath on Chest
  • Heavy Hitting Aspect on Amulet
  • Full Throttle Wrath of the Berserker
  • Aspect of Walloping on Ring (Pit Push) Aspect of Berserk Ripping (Farming)

Cooldown Option

This will not be as tanky as the set up in the Equipment section of the planner:

  • Rage of Harrogath
  • Raging Challenging Shout
  • Full Throttle Wrath of the Berserker
  • Aspect of Berserk Ripping on your Ring

Arsenal Selection

Your Arsenal selection will be Two-handed Mace.

Aspect Interaction

  • Earthstriker's Aspect give you a damage bonus without swapping weapons. You just need to have the Overpower buff on to activate the second half of the aspect.
  • Weapon Master give you a damage bonus without swapping weapons.
  • Battle-Mad Aspect gives you damage bonus while you're Berserking you do not need to swap weapons.
  • Blood Rage gains damage as long as you have Berserking active. Applying damage over time is not needed to gain the extra damage bonus.

Fury Management

Affixes

  • Resource Generation will help increase the amount of Fury you gain whenever you generate Fury from any source and pairs really well with Rallying Cry.
  • Fury Regeneration needs to be added onto:
    • Helmet
    • Chest piece
    • Pants
    • Boots
  • You can also use Tempers that add Lucky hit chance to restore primary resources. This can be placed on:
    • Jewelry
  • Do not spam you main ability if you are not near monsters if you can't maintain Fury. Hitting monsters using Wrath generates Fury.
  • If you do not have Ring of Starless Skies you can always add in a couple of Resource Cost Reduction affixes onto your Two-handed Weapons to mimic that effect.

Hello, I have a question. Not sure if im stupid or someting but how do we trigger the effect of the boots with swapping weapons when we only spin with one weapon?

0
J
JonnyG•2d ago

No need to trigger the effect. The 2nd part of the effect is not part of the trigger. So we're using it for the 2nd part of the effect. Ignore the triggerable part, as we don't need it.

Hey, why do you use the Earthstriker aspect on the amulet if you never switch weapons with this build? Since you’re always using the mace.

0

Grumpyy•5d ago

he uses it for the second part of the aspect... as long as you have overpower you always deal more damage. Just ignore the swapping part

I keep getting unlucky with Resistances on Charms and DMG on Infinity, can't get Physical, keeps giving me Fire. I saw you say in a video this was usable also, do I need to adjust anything with the build if I am stuck with Fire?

Love the Selig build, been running it for a couple seasons.

Only Cons:
1) Damage seems kind of low. I'll hit for 1,xxxb but have yet to see any T's. Last season I was getting trillions. If anyone cares to take a look at my build and offer advice I would love it, Longtooths#1378
2) I still freak when Iron Skin drops my health, no likey
3) feels weird that we have so many left over paragon points.

The build is capable of hundreds of trillions with good affixes and great transfigurations. If you have completed all points in the paragon board then you just go into strength.

Hey! I’m going to rebuild my character from the Mythic version to the Seligia variant. I have 3 Of Infinity (2H Mace) in total, but all of them have Max Life as an affix. Is there any way to get one without Max Life? If I use “Recycle Uniques,” is there a chance to get a version without Max Life?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help! 🙌

You reroll % Max Life into Max Resource at the Occultist.

Reroll it and if you are on console read the warnings in the planner about the bugs on console.

I noticed that Enigma and infinity combined provide more than +100% movement speed. Considering that you recommend Splinter of the Mother, why is there any need for Movement Speed on boots?

0

Cliptis

It offers unhindered which removes the movement speed penalty you gain from Whirlwind itself.

I have just swapped over to the Selig variant and have all the break points. Sure I don’t die but a pit 125 is a struggle as things don’t die… don’t know what I’m missing….

What is your Paragon level, and how about your glyphs? If not fully leveled yet, you could try to get bit more damage this way.

But, sadly it's almost mandatory to get phys. dmg multiplier transfig on your gear, otherwise you're losing tons of damage.

At that points it's just about getting the correct affixes, then the correct greater affixes. I used this build without any transfigurations to farm Pit 135 to level my glyphs to 150.

About your statement "there is no mythic version of the runewords"... I have to report that I was surprised to get a mythic version of Enigma when I crafted it for my new Barbarian. I wish my luck would have procced on Infinity :)

Aren't those are just cosmetic?

Or do they actually have better stats, and not just purple color?

There are Mythic versions but the only benefit that it offers Enigma is max stats and you can get that through rerolling in the cube. So upgrading it to Mythic wouldn't be a good use of your upgrade.
