Overview

Legendary loot is what Borderlands 4 is all about. There is a whole heap of shimmering orange treasures to collect and here is a list of 10 more of the absolute best the game has to offer and how to get them.

Warning: some of these legendaries will completely trivialise content!

Thanks to Ragegaming for providing the info in this guide

Kickballer

  • Type: Maliwan Shotgun
  • Effect: Force Bunt - Fires a curved projectile that bounces
  • How to Get: Sludgemaw, Watershed Gate in the Fadefields. Requires completing the “All Charged Up” Outbounders side quest.

The Kickballer is an extremely powerful Maliwan shotgun. It's one of the best legendaries for mobbing and, depending on its rolls, can delete entire groups within seconds.

It can roll with multiple elements and with the Jakobs modifier its Force Bunt bouncing projectile effect realises its full potential, adding ricochets to the already immense AoE chaos.

Onion

  • Type: Jakobs Armor Shield
  • Effect: Shallot Shell - On Armor Segment break, grants Immunity to Damage for 2s
  • How to Get: Sludgemaw, Watershed Gate in the Fadefields. Requires completing the “All Charged Up” Outbounders side quest.

The Onion shield is a great defensive option for those with aggressive playstyles or builds prone to friendly fire.

As the name would suggest it provides layers of protection granting immunity after each of your armor segments gets removed. With 4 armor segments and 8 seconds of immunity, the Onion can keep even the most gung-ho of players safe.

Armor shields regenerate over time effectively refreshing the immunity - in addition, the shields can regenerate during the immunity windows, contributing to its already amazing protection.

Darkbeast

  • Type: Daedalus SMG
  • Effect: Parley - Bullets pierce enemies, and have a 5% chance when hitting an enemy to cause an explosion that deals damage
  • How to Get: Veraxis, Timid Kyle's Neglected Opening in the Fadefields.

The Darkbeast is not a particularly flashy gun, but its damage is entirely Corrosive which gives it massive damage versus Armored (yellow healthbar) enemies such as the Order bots.

Its piercing and explosive Parley effect makes it one of the few SMGs viable in mobbing scenarios and is a great alternative for players not wanting to rely on ordnance or Action Skills for their AoE.

Stop Gap

  • Type: Vladof Sniper
  • Effect: Reconfigure - When firing, Fire Rate decreases down to 20%, but Damage increases up to 750%
  • How to Get: The Backhive, Claim Augur Mine in the Fadefields.

The Stop Gap can spawn with multiple elements and its ramping damage can become lethal in single-target scenarios, making this a strong option for boss fights, especially with the right elements.

Slippy

  • Type: Torgue Grenade
  • Effect: Swordfish - Deals Melee Damage on detontation
  • How to Get: Shadowpelt, Whistler's Maw in the Cuspid Climb of the Terminus Range.

Slippy is one of the most unique legendaries in the game. In the right build, it is also one of the strongest.

Due to it being an ordnance with Melee Damage, it is a viable alternative to the crit knife in builds such as Termx's One-Punch Harlowe build (link here!)

Slippy legendary ordnance

Firepot

  • Type: Torgue Grenade
  • Effect: Spicy - Spawns homing Torgue Stickies over time
  • How to Get: Leader Willem, Carcadia Burns. Requires finishing a quest chain that begins with Enter the Electi

The Firepot does not behave like a traditional grenade. When thrown, it spawns homing missiles at nearby targets.

The sticky hits boost explosive damage to the target giving it great synergy with splash damage builds and weapons.

Firepot legendary ordnance

Aegon's Dream

  • Type: Vladof AR
  • Effect: Prophetic - High Fire Rate.
  • How to Get: Horace, Hungering Plain in Fadefields.

Aegon's Dream is a incredibly high Fire Rate rifle that excels in single target scenarios, such as boss fights. The big upside to this gun is its underbarrel effect which grants bullets both 🔥Incendiary AND ❄️Cryo damage.

If you have your hands on this weapon and want to make the most of it, check out Nicktew's Harlowe build that utilises high Fire Rate synergies (link here!)

Pacemaker

  • Type: Daedalus Repkit
  • Effect: Pulsometer - Passively regenerates Health over time, increasing in Rate when your Health is low
  • How to Get: Horace, Hungering Plain in Fadefields.

Whereas Repkits are often used for their offensive upsides, the Pacemaker is one of the better defensive options, especially for players who don't want to think too much about their healthbar.

It might not provide anything complex, but its simplicity is its strength - the Pacemaker regenerates health increasing the lower health you are.

Onslaught

  • Type: Vladof SMG
  • Effect: Keep It Coming - There's a 30% chance for every bullet fired to deal extra Damage and not consume Ammo
  • How to Get: Idolator Sol, Fortress Indomita in Fadefields.

Onslaught is another high Fire Rate weapon, this time with a COV mag and overheat gauge. The main upside of this weapon is its ability to save you ammo, which can be critical when using a weapon that fires bullets as fast as this.

There may not be anything incredibly shiny about Onslaught but it's a great option if you want a gun that blitzes through opponents at a million miles per hour.

Onslaught legendary smg

Frangible

The title of strangest legendary weapon in Borderlands 4 might just go to Frangible. On first inspection it has 0 dps, 0 damage bullets, and 0 elemental damage. Its gimmick lies in its amalgamation of licensed parts:

  • Hyperion gun shield ADS
  • Togue sticky mine bullets
  • Jakobs crit ricochet
  • Tediore throwing gun reload
  • etc

Its status as World Drop also makes this one of the rarest legendaries in the game.
