In this Mobalytics article, we will break down all the major map changes that are coming to League. This will include the changes to the map, the objective changes, and some other things that are headed our way. For more articles like this, head over to the Mobalytics Blog!

By the way, we’ve made a much more in-depth article that includes all the changes you can expect to see in Season 14. I recommend reading the article here.

Terrain Changes

This season, all 3 lanes and the jungle are being adjusted. Let’s talk about the top lane first. In the top lane, the walls have moved, creating unique ganking paths for junglers. It also provides additional protection for laners from ganks from behind. Finally, the bush has moved in the river, so you can no longer cheese wards from the red side.

In the mid-lane, the towers have been pushed back slightly, which isn’t ideal because you’ll be over-extending further. But, the walls in the lane near the turrets have been pushed back to counter this. Similarly, in the river, the bushes have been pushed back into the river a little bit, which will give you a little extra time to react to ganks.

If you’re a bottom laner, you’ll find similar changes, with the bushes in the river moving positioning. The wall that was between the river and the blast cone has disappeared, so you’ll find junglers having an easier time ganking your lane. Over-extending as the red team will be a bit harder from here on out.

For the jungle role, the walls directly surrounding the pit have changed, so you will need to rethink where you wish to place your wards when trying to take this objective.

The Baron pit will change over time. There are 3 types of Baron, with each of them adjusting the terrain. We will break this down in a moment, but walls form and appear depending on which Baron is alive.

Baron Changes

Previously there was only 1 Baron and no map changes, however, there are now 3 types of Baron you will come across in Season 14.

  • The Hunting Baron is something similar to what we are all used to. There are no terrain changes with this Baron.
  • The territorial Baron makes a small wall appear, and its power is in pulling champions towards itself with its hands.
  • The final Baron, dubbed the All-Seeing Baron, creates multiple walls and deals a lot of damage to enemies nearby.

Rift Herald Changes

In Season 14, there is no longer going to be 2 Rift Heralds up for grabs. Instead, there are Voidgrubs that spawn up until the 14th-minute mark. Killing these creatures will grant bonuses that can help you obtain objectives.

After the 14-minute mark, Shelly spawns in, but with a difference! You can now ride Shelly and steer her: think of it like Sion’s Ultimate.

After the Baron spawns, the blue and red buffs will respawn. They will be harder to kill, but anyone who helps kill them gains the blue or red buff. Once killed, the Rift Scuttler will also rise and send a far-out Scryer’s Bloom that reveals all wards and champions nearby.

That about sums up our article on all the major changes coming in Season 14 regarding the map. We hope that you’ve found it interesting. You can find more articles like this on the Mobalytics Blog!
