15 Overrated Champions to Avoid in Low ELO
When climbing in League of Legends, any slight advantage you can gain over the enemy will be highly beneficial. Giving yourself the best odds to climbing in LoL by building correct items, understanding matchups and being entirely focused is a must.
However, did you know that you can severely decrease your chances of winning games by picking champions that do not suit you as a player? For Low ELO players, you need to avoid picking any of these champions in today’s article as you’re decreasing your chances of winning the game regardless of how much prep you’ve made.
Before we begin, if you want to ignore our advice, that’s completely okay. Having fun is far more important than anything else. If you want to play these champions, go for it! You can find a bunch of information to play each of these champions by checking out their champion pages and signing up for a free Mobalytics account!
15 Overrated Champions to Avoid in Low ELO
1. Graves
Graves is the first champion on our list. Graves is on our list today because of how hard he is compared to other Junglers in the game. A successful Jungler needs to be able to kite camps to get the healthiest clear possible. If you do not kite camps, you will have a weak clear.
Another issue with Graves is that he needs to gank a lot earlier. Lower ELO Junglers tend to farm more rather than gank, which is an issue for Graves. You shouldn’t pick Graves if you don’t like ganking and are not good at kiting camps. This, in our opinion, makes him an overrated and challenging pick for lower ELO players.
2. Leblanc
The second champion on our list is Leblanc. She makes it on our list because she is pretty mechanically tricky and has some unique combos. Her whole champion relies on cooldowns and timings, so if you’re not good at this, you will struggle playing her a lot.
Whenever I see low ELO players pick Leblanc, they’re always behind in CS and don’t know how to get a good farming score. A high ELO Leblanc will be roaming, getting kills around the map and maintaining a high creep score.
3. Aphelios
Aphelios has been out for quite a while, but players still need to learn what he does or what the best gun combos there are. Because of this, it’s not recommended for any low ELO player to play Aphelios.
He is a mechanically challenging champion who takes a long time to master and play. Because he is so tricky, we wouldn’t recommend anyone in low ELO to play him, as there are a lot of easier ADCs to play that don’t have tons of mechanics required to play them.
4. Senna
The next champion who is overrated is Senna. Senna is a demanding champion to play because of her unique Passive and how different she is from other ADCs and Supports.
Being good on Senna doesn’t necessarily transition well onto other ADCs, which isn’t good in solo queue because you need to be flexible and learn and play champions with transitional skills. Because of this, we wouldn’t recommend picking Senna.
5. Aatrox
Aatrox used to be considered a top tier top laner in League of Legends, and while he is still excellent, we consider him an overrated pick for lower ELO players. Many champions can counter him, and they are easier too.
Aatrox became over-hyped because of how often he was played in professional League of Legends. We wouldn’t recommend playing him due to two reasons. He is hard to play, and there are way more effective champions to play compared to him.
6. Nidalee
Nidalee is the 6th champion on our list and one of the most favoured champions by pro players in League of Legends. Many pro players got to high ELO because they played a lot of Nidalee.
Nidalee has had a lot of changes in the past. She used to be played in the mid-lane as well as the Jungle, she used to one-shot enemies with her Q, but now after many changes, she is a Jungler, who is not the best in low ELO due to the skill level required to play her.
7. Pyke
Pyke can be an extremely strong champion in League of Legends or an absolute mess. He has a lot of carry potential, and his Ultimate could provide him with a penta kill because it is an execute, but this isn’t the case for most players.
He is an overrated pick for many low ELO players because it is so hard to play Pyke well. He is pretty easy to kill and bully. Lower ELO players tend to get bullied out a lot, making playing Pyke hard. Don’t play Pyke if you’re not an aggressive player and understand how to position correctly in the lane.
8. Draven
I’m personally a massive fan of Draven and love playing him whenever I am given the ADC role in League. However, I think he is overrated, and there is a stereotype regarding Draven players in League of Legends.
He is one of the few ADCs on our list, and we don’t recommend him because 1) he is tough to play, and 2) he needs to get kills and carry. If you’ve ever thought of someone having main player syndrome before, Draven is encapsulated with the main player syndrome, and every Draven has to carry it!!!
9. Akali
The 9th champion coming in hot is Akali. Akali is a super overrated champion in League of Legends because of her play rate and gameplay. While her gameplay has changed in recent years, the old Akali was a much safer pick early on, but she had insane kill pressure at level 6.
Nowadays, you’ll find Akali in the top lane fighting tanks and duelists. She plays around her W to be obnoxious and infuriate the enemy top laner. She is an overrated pick because, while she does have a lot of carry potential, low ELO players find it hard to perform well on her, and basic champions in both the top and mid lane easily counter her.
10. Qiyana
This champion isn’t seen as much anymore, as new champions are being picked instead, but she used to be quite overrated. Even now, Qiyana is still quite an overrated pick. What makes her overrated? Well, it’s because of her Ultimate and the player mindset.
Qiyana’s Ultimate is a fantastic tool, that is for sure. Getting a huge Ultimate off in a team fight can turn the course of the game. However, it is tough to do correctly. On paper, you just fight in the jungle and around objectives to CC the whole enemy team, but you cannot do that on Qiyana all the time.
11. Ezreal
Ezreal is one of the most popular champions in the game. He is constantly seen as one of the best ADCs around. However, because of his popularity, he has become the go-to pick, and it seemed to always be played by one team or another.
Say what you want about the Ezreal pick. The problem with him is that he is dull, and facing him is boring. He does the same thing every game, and if you’re playing against them game after game, it gets pretty repetitive and boring. There are plenty of other cool ADCs that you can play too!
12. Viego
The 12th champion on our list is Viego . Since his release, Viego has been a go-to Jungler for many players in both high and low ELO. Unfortunately, in season 13, he is not as strong as he once was, which is one of the bonus reasons why we wouldn’t recommend Viego to low ELO players.
If you watch any high ELO player play Viego, they do an incredible job at skirmishing early and gaining a lead. Junglers in low ELO tend to avoid ganking early and barely ever have a balance between ganking and farming. Viego relies on gold income to get ahead, so farming and getting kills is a must if you want to perform on him.
13. Yone
Yone is the 13th champion on our list, and he is pretty overrated. Yeah, his kit is cool, and his play style is pretty cool too, but he is quite overrated and overplayed in low ELO.
There are a lot of other champions who do similar things to him but require fewer resources and are good even when they’re behind. If Yone falls behind, he is extremely weak and has no natural way of getting back into the game.
14. Zed
Everyone’s favourite Ninja is on our list of the most overrated champions you should avoid if you want to climb in low ELO. While his animations are slick, and he is a cool champion, maining him isn’t the best idea for a few reasons.
Firstly, it’s tough to be a very good Zed. Most low ELO Zed players are mediocre at best. They can get a ton of kills but fall behind in CS and XP and struggle to do anything with any slight lead they may be given. There are a lot of reasons why Zed is overrated AF!
15. Lee Sin
The last champion on our list is Lee Sin. Now we know how fantastic Lee Sin is as a champion. His kit is cool, and he is like Bruce Lee. However, he needs to be more overrated and overused in low ELO.
We don’t recommend playing Lee Sin or maining him in low ELO because of how difficult he is and how hard it is to do well on him consistently. He tends to fall off in the later parts of the mid and late game too, which means if the game goes late, you will struggle to be effective.
Final Remarks
There are a lot of overrated champions in Low ELO that we do not recommend players pick. As you can tell by our list, if a champion is tough, we wouldn’t recommend you play them. But you should play champions you like, enjoy, and are good at over our recommendations.
If you wish to take any of these champions into play on Summoners Rift, make sure you import their builds with the Mobalytics App.
