Wandering Hunter is a very tricky boss as daze thresholds can get difficult to work around.
Although
Lycaon has enough daze to push for an early 2nd stun, delaying the Miasma Shield phase that should happen at 02:00, doing so means @Yidhari is going into it without enough resources being built (Adrenaline and Decibels both). It's also very difficult to get 5 stacks of the Sheer DMG stage buff if pushing for such a quick stun.
As an early 2nd stun doesn't allow this team to push for 5 stuns, it's better to instead make use of the resources generated by Purify from Miasma Shield break and optimise daze generation on the 3rd and 4th stuns instead.
The routing then is straightforward, but difficult to execute in practice as it can be reliant on good patterns from the boss - especially with him having few moments of standing around doing nothing when near max daze.
Lycaon should always be initiating stuns, either with a
Defensive Assist or
Dodge Counter, as the 15 second buff duration is just about enough to last for the entire stun given his fast skill animations.
1st Stun
Build stage buff stacks early, and once 5 are reached, make use of Yidhari's @GlacialCrush out-of-stun for extra damage. Use Lycaon's
EX Special either before or shortly after initiating the attack to gain the
King of the Summit effect for it.
If possible, try to get a skill upgrade with
Lucia to burn through her Dream State faster, so that she can refresh the state prior to stun beginning and eliminating risks of Dreamer's Nursery Rhyme falling off mid-stun.
Once near stun, initiate with Lycaon and perform a standard combo, making sure to slot in a Lycaon
EX Special between attacks on Yidhari to
King of the Summit refresh.
2nd Stun
Try to make use of Assist Counters to build multiple stacks of the stage buff at once. The more stacks built here the better. If Adrenaline allows, squeeze in a @GlacialCrush before the boss goes into Miasma Shield, otherwise, save it.
When the timer is near 02:00, make use of Lycaon's
Ultimate so that Wandering Hunter is interrupted and out of hitstun at 02:00 or a little later. Getting enough time for 4 stuns is very difficult, so the earlier the boss goes into Miasma Shield, the better.
Once Miasma Shield activates, parry with Lycaon into an
Assist Follow-Up, then spend any extra Energy to shred Miasma. Swap to Lucia for an
EX Special into
Basic 5 to refresh Dream State (if applicable) and an
Ultimate. Make sure it happens while on Dream State for a free refresh later.
From there, swap to Yidhari and - if @GlacialCrush was not used before Miasma - get one in. The boss should attack again shortly after, which can then lead to parries on Lycaon and Lucia for Miasma shred and stage buff refreshes. Between parries, swap to Yidhari and use her charged
Basics for extra damage.
Miasma Shield must be broken with either a Lycaon
Defensive Assist or
Dodge Counter, so be careful not to go through things too quickly. There should be more than enough daze to lead to an immediate stun after a Purify, of which a standard combo follows, including Lycaon's
EX Special.
3rd Stun
The 2nd stun should be ending at least at 01:20+ on the timer, else it's unlikely there'll be room to push for a full 4 stuns.
Prioritise parries going to Lycaon only, as Yidhari and Lucia's daze build is very low. Use Lycaon's
EX Special between parries when swapping out of him, but try to maintain high Energy levels so as to not squander
Steam Oven's Impact buffs.
When not parrying on Lycaon, focus on doing charged
Basics on Yidhari, as she needs to build to at least 100-110 Adrenaline before the stun begins for a full combo.
Assist Points will run out fast, so there's no harm in swapping to Lycaon for charged
Basics on him between Yidhari's attacks to optimise daze build.
After the 3rd stun begins, do not use Lycaon's
EX Special mid-combo, as the Energy will be needed to speed through to the 4th stun. Working out Daze and Energy in such a way Lycaon can
EX Special shortly before stun begins (without overcapping) is ideal, but not necessary for a kill.
4th Stun
Shoot for ending the 3rd stun at over 00:37 on the timer. The principle here is similar to the lead up to the 3rd stun, but far more accelerated. It's unlikely that there'll be enough time to build maximum stacks of the stage buff, but try to shoot for at least 3 or 4 by making use of Assist Counters.
The priority is instead to build enough resources on Yidhari for her full combo.
Both Lucia and Lycaon should have their
Ultimates and this can be used to restore Assist Points if needed, but be mindful of it interrupting the boss' attack patterns.
Ultimate: Mission Complete has particularly good daze build, especially if at high Energy (or lingering/carry over Impact) from
Steam Oven, which is a big help at pushing for a quick stun.
Aim to enter the final stun with at least 00:15 seconds left and perform a full combo. With the right execution, it should be enough to kill Wandering Hunter.
