YO guys, Kargoz here! Thanks for checking out myPvP Deep Dive.
My goal with this guide is to help you get a better understanding of the PvP meta in this new exciting game! World of Warcraft: Forever is shaping up to have a VERY different PvP meta compared to Vanilla and The Burning Crusade.
With new talents, powerful defensive cooldowns, improved damage scaling, and major changes to class utility, the traditional PvP hierarchy could change significantly.
One of the biggest factors is NO Resilience. Players will have access to powerful offensive abilities and critical strike scaling without the same defensive stat that defined TBC PvP. This creates the potential for extremely explosive combat, especially at level 60.
Here is a table showing how much even 400 resil soft cap adds defensively to a player and some classes really need this in order to stay alive through burst. The absence of any resillience or versatility stat is mainly why Ice Lance is doing massive damage on the BETA.
Furthermore, several iconic abilities from later expansions like TBC are missing. Warriors don't have Spell Reflection, Rogues don't have Cloak of Shadows or Shadowstep, Druids don't have Cyclone, and Priests don't have Pain Suppression. These omissions are important because they change how classes interact with one another.
In this guide, I'll break down all nine classes, their strongest projected PvP specializations, notable talents, strengths, weaknesses, and expected roles in organized battlegrounds.
Important: These are my predictions based on the current Forever Beta, the level 60 talent trees, and years of Classic PvP experience. The final level 60 meta will depend on tuning, itemization, and how these abilities perform in real gameplay.
Warrior
Recommended PvP Spec: Arms
Spec Priority: Arms > Protection > Fury
Overview
There's a lot of skepticism surrounding Warrior in WoW Forever, but I think people are seriously underestimating them.
Arms Warriors still have some of the most oppressive offensive pressure in the game, and Forever gives them additional survivability through improvements to the Protection talent tree.
Combined with the absence of Resilience, I expect Arms Warriors to remain extremely dangerous, especially when supported by a dedicated healer.
Why Arms Will Be Strong
The centerpiece of the Arms toolkit is still Mortal Strike, applying a massive 50% healing reduction. This is one of the strongest debuffs in organized PvP and makes Warriors incredibly valuable in coordinated teams.
Arms also benefits from several powerful talents and abilities:
Sweeping Strikes provides exceptional cleave potential when enemies stack together.
Spearing Strike introduces additional burst damage and can dismount mounted enemies.
Improved Hamstring creates opportunities to immobilize opponents and maintain melee uptime.
Charge and Intercept provide essential mobility for staying connected to targets.
Sword Specialization offers additional attack opportunities that can produce explosive damage alongside Windfury.
The biggest advantage of Arms is its ability to combine relentless damage with healing reduction. Warriors force opponents to respond defensively simply by maintaining uptime.
Defensive Improvements
One of the most interesting changes in Forever is the additional value Warriors can gain from equipping a shield.
Shield Specialization and Master of Defense create opportunities for improved Rage generation and survivability while playing defensively.
Last Stand and Shield Wall provide powerful emergency cooldowns, while Improved Shield Wall can significantly reduce the latter's cooldown.
Orc Warriors are especially interesting because of Pet Hardiness, which provides additional protection against stuns.
I expect skilled Warriors to spend considerably more time swapping between two-handed weapons and shields depending on the situation.
Weaknesses
Warriors are still heavily dependent on support and positioning.
They lack Spell Reflection and Intervene, which means they have fewer tools to protect teammates or counter incoming spell damage compared to TBC.
Despite their mobility, sustained roots, slows, and crowd control can still severely limit their effectiveness.
Other PvP Specs
Protection: Potentially underrated in objective-based PvP. Between Concussion Blow, Shield Slam, Disarm, and defensive cooldowns, Protection could become a legitimate utility or defensive specialization in certain battleground compositions.
Fury: Capable of delivering impressive damage and securing killing blows, but missing Mortal Strike makes it difficult to justify over Arms in organized PvP.
Verdict
I expect Arms Warrior to remain one of the premier offensive specializations in WoW Forever.
High damage, strong uptime, healing reduction, and improved defensive options make Warriors incredibly threatening when paired with proper support.
Mage
Recommended PvP Spec: Frost
Spec Priority: Frost > Fire > Arcane
Overview
Mage has historically been one of the strongest PvP specializations in Classic WoW, and Forever gives it additional burst potential while preserving much of its legendary control toolkit.
Mages excel at controlling the pace of combat, preventing enemy teams from connecting with priority targets, and creating offensive opportunities through crowd control.
I expect Frost Mage to remain a staple of organized battleground compositions.
Frost Mage Strengths
The biggest addition to the Frost toolkit is Ice Lance.
When combined with Frost Nova, Frostbite, Shatter, and Fingers of Frost, Frost Mages gain significantly more instant burst potential than they had in Vanilla.
This is especially dangerous in an environment without Resilience.
The core Frost toolkit includes:
Frostbolt for consistent ranged pressure and slowing enemies.
Frost Nova for rooting multiple opponents and setting up burst.
Ice Lance for instant damage against frozen targets.
Fingers of Frost for additional opportunities to capitalize on frozen-target interactions.
Polymorph for controlling priority targets.
Counterspell for interrupting and locking down enemy casters.
Ice Block, Cold Snap, and Ice Barrier for exceptional defensive utility.
Important Changes in Forever
Frost Mage hasn't received exclusively positive changes.
Improved Blizzard has been nerfed compared to Vanilla, reducing the effectiveness of sustained AoE slows.
This is significant because controlling large groups of enemies is one of the Mage's greatest strengths in battlegrounds.
However, the additional single-target burst from Ice Lance and its supporting talents could more than compensate for these reductions in certain matchups.
Battleground Role
Frost Mages are incredibly versatile in Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin.
They can defend objectives, peel for healers, control midfield, and assist flag carriers through coordinated crowd control.
In Warsong Gulch, Mages can also serve as temporary flag carriers, using their defensive toolkit and mobility to transition the flag to a Druid.
Other PvP Specs
Fire: An interesting option for compositions running multiple Mages. Fire sacrifices some defensive control in exchange for stronger offensive pressure and explosive burst potential. Combustion and Pyroblast can create dangerous kill opportunities.
Arcane: Forever introduces Arcane Blast and Missile Barrage, but Arcane lacks much of the control and defensive synergy that makes Frost so valuable in organized PvP.
Verdict
Frost Mage is one of my strongest candidates for an S-tier PvP specialization.
Despite reductions to its slowing toolkit, the combination of control, defensive utility, and improved instant burst should keep Frost Mage extremely competitive.
Paladin
Recommended PvP Spec: Holy
Spec Priority: Holy > Retribution > Protection
Overview
Holy Paladin is shaping up to be one of the strongest defensive healers in WoW Forever.
Where Priests lean toward offensive utility, Paladins specialize in keeping teammates alive through powerful single-target healing, defensive cooldowns, and exceptional survivability.
Forever introduces several improvements that could make Holy Paladin substantially more effective in PvP.
Why Holy Paladin Looks Strong
One of the biggest additions is Voice of Truth.
This new talent grants immunity to silence and interrupt effects for six seconds, allowing Paladins to cast critical heals without worrying about conventional spell interrupts.
This is HUGE in a meta where casting could become increasingly difficult due to effects like Curse of Tongues.
Holy Paladins also gain improved access to instant healing through Holy Shock.
While Holy Shock has a 10-second cooldown in Forever, it can interact with Light's Vigil to provide additional offensive or defensive value.
The combination makes Holy Paladin considerably less dependent on hard casting than it was in Vanilla.
Defensive Toolkit
Paladins possess one of the most complete defensive utility packages in the game.
Divine Shield provides an emergency immunity cooldown.
Blessing of Protection protects allies against physical damage.
Blessing of Freedom helps teammates escape movement impairing effects.
Lay on Hands provides an exceptional emergency heal.
Cleanse removes dangerous debuffs from teammates.
Hammer of Justice provides a powerful six-second stun.
Divine Favor guarantees a critical heal when used with an eligible spell.
Paladins can also improve their durability through Protection talents and benefit from strong spell pushback resistance through Spiritual Focus and Concentration Aura.
Weaknesses
Holy Paladin's biggest limitation is its lack of offensive utility.
They also lack the same ability to pressure opponents through damage, Mana disruption, and offensive crowd control.
This makes Holy Paladin extremely effective at keeping teammates alive but less capable of independently creating kill opportunities.
Other PvP Specs
Retribution: Forever introduces improvements to Retribution's damage potential, including additional seal interactions. I expect Retribution to be more competitive than in Vanilla, especially when paired with a Shaman providing Windfury Totem.
However, Retribution still needs to demonstrate that its damage and utility justify a dedicated damage slot in organized battlegrounds.
Protection: A possible niche option for heavily geared flag carriers or defensive objective play. The combination of shields, defensive cooldowns, and engineering consumables could make Protection difficult to eliminate.
Verdict
Holy Paladin looks like an excellent choice for players who enjoy defensive healing, exceptional durability, and supporting their team through powerful utility.
I expect Holy to be the dominant Paladin PvP specialization.
Spec Priority:Marksmanship / Survival Hybrid > Beast Mastery, with dedicated melee Survival remaining an interesting alternative.
Overview
Hunter might be one of the biggest winners in WoW Forever PvP.
Hunters are already extremely powerful in Vanilla, but Forever adds additional crowd control, improved trap functionality, stronger defensive talents, and more flexibility in how the class can be played.
I expect Hunter to become one of the premier battlefield control classes, potentially competing with Frost Mage in certain situations.
Recommended PvP Build
My preferred approach is a hybrid build combining the utility of Marksmanship with the defensive and crowd control talents available in Survival.
Important Marksmanship talents include:
Hawk Eye for additional ranged attack distance.
Careful Aim for converting Intellect into Attack Power.
Improved Stings for additional Sting utility.
Scatter Shot for reliable crowd control.
Mortal Shots for improved critical damage.
Trueshot Aura for supporting physical damage dealers.
Lone Wolf for additional value when fighting without an active pet.
The combination provides strong ranged damage, Mana efficiency, and offensive utility while allowing deeper investment into Survival.
The New Trap Package
This is where Hunter starts getting REALLY interesting.
Hunters can now place traps in combat, eliminating the traditional reliance on Feign Death to deploy them during an engagement.
The Survival tree further improves this through several important talents.
Entrapment provides rooting effects through traps, while Clever Traps increases trap effectiveness and Survivalist's Discipline significantly reduces trap cooldowns.
With the full talent package, Frost Trap can potentially have a cooldown around 18 seconds while retaining a much longer area denial duration.
This creates exceptional opportunities to control chokepoints, disrupt enemy pushes, and protect objectives.
The first-pulse rooting interaction discussed during the Beta is particularly important, although its final implementation should be retested before launch.
Defensive Strengths
Hunters also gain exceptional physical survivability.
Deflection, Aspect of the Monkey, and Deterrence combine to provide substantial avoidance against melee attackers.
This could make Hunter one of the most frustrating targets for Warriors and Rogues to engage.
Strider Kick also offers an additional interrupt option for builds investing deeply enough into Survival.
However, Hunters remain vulnerable to sustained magical pressure and damage over time effects, particularly against Warlocks and Shadow Priests.
Battlefield Intelligence
One of the most underrated abilities in Classic PvP is Eagle Eye.
In organized battlegrounds, information is incredibly valuable.
A Hunter can scout enemy movement in Warsong Gulch, identify incoming attacks in Arathi Basin, and monitor important routes and chokepoints in Alterac Valley.
Combined with their tracking abilities, traps, and ranged pressure, Hunters are exceptionally effective at controlling the battlefield.
Other PvP Specs
Beast Mastery: Potentially very powerful depending on how pet scaling performs at level 60. Improved pet damage and Bestial Wrath could create significant offensive pressure.
Melee Survival: An interesting wildcard. With Rapid Fire, Deadly Aspects
, melee-oriented talents, and Strider Kick, Survival has access to substantial offensive tools. Its effectiveness in organized PvP remains uncertain.
Verdict
Hunter is one of my top candidates to emerge as a defining class of the Forever PvP meta.
The combination of ranged pressure, traps, defensive avoidance, Mana disruption, and battlefield intelligence makes Hunter incredibly valuable in coordinated teams.
I expect the Marksmanship / Survival hybrid to be particularly strong.
Warlock
Recommended PvP Spec: Demonology SL SL Hybrid
Spec Priority:Demonology Hybrid > Affliction / Destruction, depending on composition.
Overview
Warlock is looking phenomenal in WoW Forever.
The class already possesses one of the strongest PvP toolkits in Vanilla, combining sustained damage, crowd control, pet utility, and exceptional survivability.
Forever improves several of these strengths while introducing additional damage scaling and more flexible talent combinations.
My preferred PvP approach is a hybrid build combining Soul Link with the sustain and damage offered by Affliction.
The Soul Link / Siphon Life Build
One of the most exciting possibilities is combining Soul Link and Siphon Life with other valuable Affliction talents.
In Vanilla, Warlocks generally have to make significant compromises between survivability and offensive pressure.
Forever's expanded talent options create opportunities to combine more of these strengths.
Soul Link now transfers 30% of incoming damage to your demon, making it an exceptionally powerful defensive talent.
Meanwhile, Affliction provides:
Siphon Life for additional damage and self-healing.
Fel Concentration for substantial pushback resistance while channeling Drain spells.
Amplify Curse for stronger Curse effects.
Curse of Exhaustion for additional control.
Pandemic for improved critical damage scaling on damage over time effects.
Drain Life for sustained damage and self-healing.
The result is a Warlock capable of applying considerable pressure while remaining extremely difficult to eliminate.
Improved Damage Scaling
One of the biggest differences in Forever is that Warlock damage over time effects can critically strike.
This dramatically improves their potential scaling with gear.
Pandemic further increases critical damage, opening the door to significantly stronger sustained damage than Vanilla Warlocks traditionally possessed.
The separation of Banes and Curses is another massive improvement.
Warlocks can maintain Curse of Tongues or other utility Curses while simultaneously applying Bane of Agony of Agony.
This is particularly dangerous for enemy healers and casters because Warlocks no longer have to sacrifice as much damage to maintain their utility.
Demonology Improvements
The Demonology talent tree also provides several impressive additions.
Demonic Brand allows demons to deal additional damage against marked targets.
Master Demonologist, Demonic Knowledge, and other pet-related talents can improve both personal effectiveness and demon performance.
Beta testing has already shown promising results for improved demon damage.
Weaknesses
Warlocks remain dependent on their demons for several important abilities and benefits.
Losing a demon can significantly reduce offensive pressure, crowd control, and survivability, particularly for Soul Link builds.
They are also vulnerable to coordinated burst, interrupts, and pressure from multiple attackers.
Other PvP Specs
Affliction: Excellent sustained pressure and utility through powerful damage over time effects. Its primary concern is sacrificing too much survivability compared to a Demonology hybrid.
Destruction: Offers strong direct damage and burst potential through abilities like Shadowburn, Conflagrate, and Incinerate. It could become very dangerous with sufficient gear.
Verdict
Warlock looks like one of the most complete PvP classes in WoW Forever.
The ability to combine extraordinary durability, improved damage over time scaling, and powerful control makes Warlock a serious contender for the top of the PvP meta.
I'm particularly excited about the Soul Link / Siphon Life hybrid for both solo PvP and organized battlegrounds.
Druid has always been one of the most valuable classes in organized Classic PvP, particularly in Warsong Gulch.
Their mobility, shapeshifting, defensive utility, and ability to manipulate objectives make them incredibly difficult to replace.
In WoW Forever, I expect Restoration hybrids to remain the dominant PvP approach, although changes to Feral could make alternative builds more competitive.
Why Restoration Will Be Strong
The greatest strength of Restoration Druid is its ability to combine mobility, survivability, and healing without relying entirely on hard casting.
A traditional PvP build can combine Restoration with useful Feral talents to gain additional durability and mobility.
Important talents and abilities include:
Swiftmend for powerful instant healing.
Nature's Swiftness for emergency instant casts.
Rejuvenation for sustained healing while moving.
Wild Growth for additional group healing.
Feral Charge for mobility and interrupt utility.
Reflection for improved Mana regeneration.
Barkskin for additional defensive protection.
This toolkit makes Restoration Druid extremely effective at surviving prolonged engagements, escaping pressure, and keeping teammates alive while repositioning.
Gift of the Earthmother
One of the most exciting PvP talents in WoW Forever is Gift of the Earthmother.
This talent reduces the global cooldown of Rejuvenation, Swiftmend, and Wild Growth by 0.5 seconds.
That's a HUGE improvement.
Reducing the global cooldown from 1.5 seconds to 1 second allows Druids to cycle through their instant healing abilities much faster.
For a healer whose strength comes from mobility and instant casts, this is an exceptionally valuable improvement.
Combined with better Mana regeneration, Restoration Druids could become incredibly difficult to exhaust in extended fights.
Battleground Role
Druids will almost certainly remain the premier flag carriers in Warsong Gulch.
Their ability to shapeshift, remove movement impairing effects, heal themselves, and move efficiently across the battlefield is unmatched.
They are also excellent at defending and contesting objectives in Arathi Basin.
Forever adds additional utility by allowing Entangling Roots to be used indoors.
However, Druids still lack Cyclone, which is a significant difference compared to TBC.
Other PvP Specs
Feral: Potentially more competitive than in Vanilla because of improvements to damage scaling and new talents. Mangle, Berserk, and improved interactions with Windfury Totem could make Feral dangerous.
However, Feral still lacks a Mortal Strike healing reduction and several control tools found in later expansions.
Balance: Offers ranged spell pressure and utility through abilities like Moonkin Form, Starfire, and Moonfire, but I remain unconvinced that it will outperform Restoration in organized battlegrounds.
Verdict
Restoration Druid looks like the premier objective-oriented specialization in WoW Forever.
The new healing GCD reduction, excellent mobility, and traditional flag-carrying toolkit should keep Druids extremely valuable in competitive battlegrounds.
Priest
Recommended PvP Spec: Holy / Discipline Hybrid
Spec Priority:Holy > Discipline > Shadow
Overview
Priest is one of the most exciting classes in WoW Forever, and I think there's a strong possibility that players are overlooking Holy.
Discipline has attracted considerable attention because of Penance and its additional defensive tools, but Holy gains access to one of the most powerful healing abilities in the game.
That ability is Prayer of Mending.
My prediction is that Holy could become the premier Priest healing specialization in organized PvP.
Why Holy Could Be the Best Priest Spec
Prayer of Mending is the centerpiece of this build.
The spell heals an ally when triggered by damage or eligible healing effects, then jumps to another nearby party or raid member.
It can trigger up to five times.
With strong healing power scaling and repeated jumps between teammates, Prayer of Mending can produce exceptional healing throughput during sustained pressure.
This is especially valuable in battlegrounds where multiple players are frequently taking damage.
The ability to deliver substantial healing without repeatedly hard casting makes Holy particularly interesting in Forever's potentially explosive PvP environment.
Holy / Discipline Hybrid
One of the most appealing builds is investing deeply enough into Holy to obtain Prayer of Mending while picking up valuable talents from Discipline.
This allows you to combine the strongest parts of both trees.
Important abilities and talents include:
Prayer of Mending for exceptional healing throughput.
Inner Focus for Mana efficiency and powerful emergency casts.
Meditation for improved Mana regeneration.
Power Word: Shield for instant damage absorption.
Psychic Scream for powerful area crowd control.
Dispel Magic for both offensive and defensive utility.
Mana Burn for pressuring enemy healers.
Priests possess one of the most aggressive healing toolkits in the game.
Unlike Holy Paladins, Priests can actively pressure enemy resources and remove beneficial magic effects from opponents.
Important Missing Defensives
One of my biggest concerns for Priests is survivability.
Forever does not provide Priest with Pain Suppression or Mass Dispel.
That is particularly important because there is no Resilience to reduce incoming burst damage.
Priests could become exceptionally vulnerable to Warrior, Rogue, and other classes capable of delivering explosive damage.
Their positioning and defensive cooldown management will be critical.
The Value of Mind Vision
One of the most underrated Priest abilities is Mind Vision.
This ability allows Priests to scout enemy positioning and gather valuable battlefield intelligence.
In Warsong Gulch, you can use it to locate enemy flag carriers and track their movements.
In Arathi Basin, it can help identify enemy rotations and anticipate attacks.
Information wins battlegrounds, and Priest brings surprisingly powerful scouting utility.
Other PvP Specs
Discipline: Remains an excellent option through Penance, Power Word: Shield, and other defensive talents. Its biggest question is whether it can survive sustained pressure as effectively as Holy's Prayer of Mending based healing.
Shadow: Potentially very dangerous in Forever. Improved damage scaling, critical damage potential, and strong damage over time effects make Shadow Priest an interesting offensive specialization.
Shadowform provides additional durability against physical damage, while abilities such as Shadow Word: Pain, Vampiric Embrace, and Shadow Word: Death contribute considerable offensive pressure.
The absence of defensive abilities like Cloak of Shadows and the traditional Warlock Spellstone could make Shadow Priest damage significantly harder for certain opponents to counter.
Verdict
I believe Holy Priest is being underestimated.
Prayer of Mending could be one of the most powerful healing abilities in the entire PvP meta, especially when combined with the offensive utility Priests already possess.
Discipline and Shadow both look promising, but Holy is currently my preferred specialization.
Rogue
Recommended PvP Spec: Subtlety
Spec Priority:Subtlety > Assassination > Combat
Overview
Rogue remains one of the highest skill expression classes in World of Warcraft.
The class has always excelled at creating opportunities through Stealth, crowd control, cooldown management, and carefully timed offensive engagements.
Forever introduces several interesting changes, particularly around dagger builds and poison scaling.
However, I still expect Subtlety to remain the dominant PvP specialization.
Why Subtlety Will Be Strong
Subtlety offers the most complete control toolkit for organized PvP.
Rogues have access to powerful abilities such as:
Cheap Shot for opening stuns.
Kidney Shot for extended control.
Gouge for interrupting opponents and setting up resets.
Blind for powerful crowd control.
Improved Sap for controlling enemies outside combat.
Preparation for additional cooldown flexibility.
Ghostly Strike for defensive and offensive utility.
Hemorrhage for a flexible, weapon-based damage approach.
The combination allows Rogues to control engagements, isolate targets, and create kill opportunities for their teammates.
Successful Rogue gameplay isn't simply about dealing as much damage as possible.
It's about controlling the fight and choosing when to engage.
Important Changes in Forever
One significant improvement is that Improved Sap no longer requires the same talent investment to function effectively without breaking stealth.
This improves the baseline Rogue control package and creates additional flexibility in talent selection.
The ability to use Preparation to reset important cooldowns also remains incredibly valuable.
In coordinated PvP, being able to repeatedly control priority targets can be more impactful than dealing additional damage.
The Dagger Question
Blizzard appears to be pushing dagger builds considerably harder in Forever.
This creates the possibility that Mutilate and other dagger-based abilities could become much more competitive.
Historically, dagger-focused builds often sacrifice some flexibility or control in exchange for stronger burst damage.
However, Forever removes several abilities that traditionally make Subtlety so dominant in later expansions.
Rogues do not have Shadowstep, Cloak of Shadows, or Deadly Throw.
Without those tools defining the meta, alternative builds may become easier to justify.
Improved poison scaling could also make Assassination more attractive than it was in Vanilla.
Weaknesses
The biggest concern for Rogues is survivability in an environment without Resilience or Cloak of Shadows.
Against coordinated teams, Rogues could be extremely vulnerable to sustained magical pressure, damage over time effects, and cleave.
Proper cooldown management and resetting fights through Blind, Sprint, and Vanish will be critical.
Other PvP Specs
Assassination: A legitimate alternative if Mutilate and poison scaling perform well at level 60. It may offer more offensive pressure at the cost of some traditional Subtlety utility.
Combat: Can provide strong sustained damage and cooldowns like Adrenaline Rush and Blade Flurry, but it lacks the flexibility and control I want from a Rogue in organized PvP.
Verdict
Subtlety remains my preferred Rogue PvP specialization.
The class will continue rewarding positioning, cooldown management, and coordinated crowd control.
Assassination is the wildcard worth watching as level 60 tuning develops.
