Overview

WoW Forever camping lets you collect useful buffs, top up rested XP and access services such as repairs and reagent vendors while exploring the world. Sit beside a campfire for a minute to receive the benefits of its profession features, with standard camping stat buffs lasting one hour.

In this guide, we’ll cover how to get started, what each profession contributes, the rules for placing camp features and the upgrades that make your campsite more useful.

Camping is closely tied to professions. Our WoW Forever profession changes overview covers the wider changes to crafting and gathering.

How to Start Camping

Look for The Great Outdoors quest as you leave your starting area, around level 5. The quest giver stands near a tent and campfire, usually on the way to your first nearby town.

Use /sit beside the fire and wait about a minute to receive its benefit. The follow-up sends you to town to learn Cooking, which lets you make a Basic Campfire Kit at Cooking skill 1.

You’ll need Simple Wood and Flint and Tinder, available from the Cooking trainer. Craft the kit through your Cooking menu, then use it from your bags to place a campfire.

The introductory profession quests lead you to your trainers for your first profession camping recipes, generally at 20 profession skill. You don’t need a profession or a party invite to benefit from somebody else’s camp, so stop at useful camps even before you can contribute your own feature.

Campfire Upgrades and Capacity

The campfire determines how many additional features players can place:

  • Basic Campfire: Up to three features; available at Cooking skill 1.
  • Journeyman Campfire: Up to five features.
  • Expert Campfire: Up to ten features.

Check the requirement on the usable kit when planning an upgrade. Current beta item listings show 140 Cooking for the Journeyman Campfire Kit and 220 Cooking for the Expert Campfire Kit. Their blueprint tooltips display lower requirements of 90 and 200 respectively.

A bigger camp gives more players room to contribute, letting you combine additional buffs and services in one stop.

Profession Camping Buffs

  • Alchemy – Mana Well: Provides Mana regeneration.
  • Blacksmithing – Sharpening Wheel: Increases Strength.
  • Mining – Lodestone: Increases melee Attack Power.
  • Herbalism – Incense Candle: Increases Intellect.
  • Skinning – Camp Chair: Grants 2% increased critical strike chance with spells and attacks.
  • Tailoring – Faction Banner: Increases Spirit.
  • Enchanting – Enchanted Lute: Increases Armor, stats and resistances.
  • Engineering– Reagent Bot: Provides a vendor for buying reagents.
  • First Aid – First Aid Kit: Increases Stamina.
  • Fishing – Fish Bowl: Grants 8% increased stats.
  • Leatherworking– Camp Tent: Tops up rested XP to 5% of a level.
  • Cooking – Cookie’s Feast: Provides Stamina-boosting food. This feature requires 140 Cooking, separate from the campfire kit upgrades.

The Camp Tent is particularly useful while leveling, but it doesn’t add another 5% every time you visit. It brings your rested XP up to that amount and has no effect if you already have more.

Early camping recipes are inexpensive. A Mana Well recipe uses one Peacebloom and one Empty Vial, a Sharpening Wheel uses one Rough Stone and one Copper Bar, and a Camp Tent uses five Light Leather. Carry a few supplies so you can contribute when you find a camp.

Camping Rules and Buff Stacking

Campfires can be placed outdoors, outside cities, and must be at least 100 yards apart. If you receive the Campfire Nearby effect, look around for an existing camp.

There are also limits on the features you can add:

  • Each player can contribute one profession feature at a time. You’ll need other players to fill the remaining slots.
  • Profession features share a one-hour cooldown. Changing camps or switching to a different profession’s feature doesn’t bypass it.
  • Campfire kits have a separate five-minute cooldown.
  • Profession features are consumed when placed. They aren’t permanent, reusable tools.
  • Placing a feature requires the relevant profession and skill. Buying or trading for the item doesn’t remove that requirement, although anyone can receive its benefits.

Camp Buffs and Class Buffs

Camping buffs don’t stack with their equivalent class buffs. For example:

  • Mana Well doesn’t stack with Blessing of Wisdom.
  • Incense Candle doesn’t stack with Arcane Intellect.
  • Fish Bowl doesn’t stack with Blessing of Kings.
  • First Aid Kit doesn’t stack with Power Word: Fortitude.
  • Enchanted Lute doesn’t stack with Mark of the Wild.

Check what your group already provides before spending your feature cooldown. A missing buff or a useful service will usually help more than duplicating something everyone already has.

Higher Tier Camping Features

Most profession features have three tiers, with skill requirements of 20, 140 and 300. Cooking’s campfire kits follow the separate progression above.

Tier-two features retain the original camping benefit and add another function. Examples include:

  • Blacksmithing – Anvil: Adds an anvil while retaining the Strength buff.
  • Engineering – Repair Bot: Adds gear repairs while keeping reagent sales.
  • Herbalism – Greenhouse: Grows herbs over time from planted seeds while retaining the Intellect buff.
  • Mining – Rock Garden: Produces a mining node over time while retaining the melee Attack Power buff.
  • Fishing – Fishing Rack: Enables uncommon fish catches for one hour while retaining the Fish Bowl’s stat bonus.

You don’t need to carry the basic version just to receive its original buff. For the materials needed to build the bots, see our WoW Forever Engineering recipes.

Not every upgrade comes directly from a trainer. Some require blueprints obtained in the open world or from dungeon bosses. Higher tier features listed at 300 skill include the Master Forge and Iron Oven, which support advanced crafting.

Legacy Perks for Camping

The Legacy system offers several ways to improve camping:

  • Reagent Economy: Removes the crafting material cost of tier-one camping features.
  • Field Guide: Reduces the cooldown on placing profession features by 8% at rank one.
  • Permanence: Makes the benefits gained from resting at camp last 50% longer at rank one.

These perks can make regular camp stops cheaper and more convenient. Our WoW Forever Legacy system guide explains how the wider system works.

Getting the Most Out of Each Camp

Use a camp stop to handle several things at once. While waiting for your buffs, eat to refresh your Well Fed effect, craft what you need and organise your bags. Suitable cooked food also provides 5% increased experience from kills, making it useful alongside your camping benefits.

Before a dungeon or a longer questing session, coordinate your group’s contributions. Cover missing buffs, use a tent when you need rested XP, and take advantage of repairs or reagent vendors when those features are available.

Camps can save trips back to town, though you’ll still need services such as the Auction House and class trainers. Get into the habit of checking your buffs before heading out, bringing a feature you can contribute and making the most of camps you pass along the way.
