Overview

This guide was originally written as our initial impressions of Set 18 at the time of its reveal, prior to the PBE launch. For up-to-date guidance, click on any champion links, or check out our Meta Comps section below.

Lunar is a simple but effective splash trait that you can flex into a wide variety of comps in TFT Set 18. It provides valuable offensive stats without requiring you to fully commit to the trait, making it an easy fit for many team compositions.

Lunar champions and adjacent allies in the hexes gain Attack Speed and Ability Power, with Lunar champions receiving an even greater bonus. This trait is especially strong in comps built around carries that can make use of both stats, helping them scale throughout the fight. Whether you're looking to boost an AD carry with extra Attack Speed or an AP carry with additional spell damage, Lunar is a great trait to add to your board!

Let's dive into the Lunar champions and check out their abilities and synergies!

Lunar Meta Comps

When playing around Lunar, you’ll want to position your units so the Lunar hexes cover your itemised carries and tanks. Check the hexes whenever you move your board to make sure your strongest units keep the buff.

Here are a few comps that use the Lunar trait.

Moonlit Hunt

Our Moonlit Hunt comp plays around Aphelios and Nidalee, with Amumu as your main tank. Aphelios, Diana and Alune give you 3 Lunar, and positioning Nidalee beside Aphelios lets her benefit from the Lunar stats too.

An Elderwood opener with Xayah is a natural way into this board. Blossom with Yunara is another option if those are the upgrades you find, as either can hold your AD items.

Early copies of Aphelios or Nidalee alongside suitable AD components are good indicators to play this comp.

This is a fast 8 board so econ augments such as Slammin, Epoch are great and for combat look for Bronze for Life or Sword overflow as you can't get enough BF swords on this board.

Carries: Aphelios, Nidalee and Amumu
Leveling: Fast 8

AP Exodia

for the AP enjoyers our AP Exodia comp uses Alune and Lunar Lux as carries, with Taric holding the frontline. Both carries receive the stronger Lunar bonus, making this a good direction when your items favor AP.

Elderwood with LeBlanc works well early, while Blossom with Karma gives you another route during the early game. Play around whichever setup has the upgrades to preserve your health while you work towards level 9.

Level Up! or Late Game Scaling are strong augments, as you’ll need plenty of economy to afford this board. Encounters that provide extra gold or XP also help, especially when you already have a strong opener and AP items ready.

Carries: Alune, Lux, Taric
Leveling: Fast 9

Trigger Happy

Our Trigger Happy comp pairs Aphelios with Brambleback, while Maokai becomes your main tank later. Diana fits naturally here, activating Lunar with Aphelios and Ravager with Brambleback.

Varus and Xayah behind Shen and Ornn give you a good early setup. You can also play around an upgraded Riftbeast or Hunter opener if that’s what you hit.

This comp needs a Rapidfire emblem to work, so look for augments like Branching out, Spreading Roots or even look out for a Frying Pan on the carousel.

Carries: Aphelios, Brambleback and Maokai
Leveling: Fast 8

  • Diana - Ravager / Vanguard
  • Aphelios - Rapidfire
  • Alune - Attuned / Spellweaver
  • Lux - Avatar

TFT Lunar Champions

Diana Ravager Vanguard Lunar 3g

The first Lunar champion is Diana and with 3 traits, she can slot into a wide variety of team comps, making her an incredibly flexible frontline option.

Diana's ability, Pale Barrier, grants her a shield before sending a moonlight orb toward the nearest enemies, dealing magic damage.

Aphelios Rapidfire Lunar 4g

tft set 18 aphelios

[Link to Champion Page]

Aphelios will be the main ADC while playing around Lunar. He’s a Rapidfire, so he already has that built-in attack speed, but his ability makes him equip Severum and swipe his enemies, each dealing max health physical damage. After the onslaught finishes, Aphelios fires a blast that deals physical damage, split among all enemies in a 2 Hex radius.

With Aphelios’s ability hitting multiple units, consider using him with items like Red Buff or Last Whisper so he can spread utility to multiple units at once.

Alune Attuned Spellweaver Lunar 5g

tft set 18 alune

[Link to Champion Page]

Alune's Moonfall ability is a bit crazy, she makes it rain moonshards that split among the 3 nearest enemies. After a few casts and when the moon is full, Allune will crash it onto the board dealing tons of damage.

Alune’s mana cost is low as well, so get 3 Items and a tanky frontline which will give you time for Alune to bring down the moon.

Lux Avatar Lunar 5g

Lastly, we have our last 5-cost Lunar, Lux. Lux has both a passive and an active. Lux’s passive, on cast, grants all allies that share a trait with Lux mana. Pair this with the Lunar buff, and by just having 2 units, you can get quite a lot of value.

Her ability is called Final Spark, Lux will fire a laser towards the largest group of enemies, dealing magic damage, reduced by for each enemy hit. Lux can have multiple different Origins, but if you have Lunar Lux, then her ability will also apply Vulnerable, which, if you didn’t know, increases damage taken.
