Build Overview

[Phrecia Ascendancies are not in the Mobalytics Database AND in PoB 3.27 Tree]

Patch Nodes for Surfcaster

  • The "Flee Chance and Fish Rarity" passives have been renamed to "Flee Chance, Fish Rarity, and Cast Speed" and grant 4% increased Cast Speed
  • Screaming Reels now has "60% more Cast Speed while holding a Fishing Rod" (previously 50%)
  • Brine Bound now has "Cannot be Frozen"
  • Sea Legs now has "+40% to Cold and Lightning Resistances" (previously +30%)
  • Ghost of the Deep now grants the following bonuses while possessed by a Tormented Illegal Fisherman:
    • 23% increased Damage (from 20)
    • 23% increased Attack Speed (from 30)
    • 23% increased Cast Speed (from 30)
    • 23% increased Movement Speed (from 30)

ITS A BUFF

We loose 7% Movement Speed, BUT we gain 'Cannot be Frozen', 10% Cold & Lightning Resistances, 3% inc Damage ( SO HUGE :P) and 9% Cast Speed (from Small Nodes)

Overview

Surfcaster is a excellent All Rounder Ascendancy that synergises extremly well with Penance Brand of Dissipation.

The 'Stormy Seas' Node converts all our Lightning Damage to Cold Damage, freeing up BOTH Ring Slots as we no longer need 2x Call of the Brotherhood. With the Build In Conversion of Penance Brand, all we need is to convert 50% Physical to Lightning with either Mastery + Glove Crafts or Glove Craft/Unveil + Implicit. With the Cold Damage we get an excelent Survivability Layer with Freeze.

The Keepers League also brought us Foulborn Variants of Uniques. Specifically the Berek's Respite Variant is busted for the Build. One of the Foulborn Modifiers replaces the Shock Spread with Shocked Enemies Explode for a % of their Life, but cannot Shock. The 'Within the Tempest' Node Spreads Shock whenever we Kill an Enemy. In Theory this should work in Paralel and cause the Shock to Spread before the Explosion reaches nearby Enemies.

Surfcaster also grants us other great Buffs: 'Ghost of the Deep', which grants us Cast Speed, %Damage and Movement Speed. 'Glacial Wave' which makes our Chill apply increased Damage Taken and less Damage dealt. And 'Sea Legs' for easy access to Critical Strike Chance by overcapping our Lightning Resistance.

Survivability

Due to several comments asking about the EHP of the Endgame Variant I want to note that most of the Cost is in the Uniques and Weapons. We can easily get way more EHP by getting a better Body Armour, replacing the Ralakesh's Impatience (Frenzy) with Rare Boots and getting more Energy Shield/ Life on Gloves & Helmet.

It is also important to mention that the Grafts, the 15% less Damage at 30% Chill Effect and enemies being frozen is not calculated by the PoB. Depending on the Difficulty of the Top Idol Strats that alone might be enough.

Looking at Expensive Upgrades we can get the Forbidden Jewels for Escape Artist or drop the Offhand Wand / Sceptre for a Shield and invest into Block Nodes. The Shield can either be a Rare Shaper Shield with Life on Block or a Svalinn.

Pantheon & Bandits

Help Alira for +15% all Resistances.

Use The Brine King and Abberath. Remember to unlock Burning Ground Imunity and Freeze Immunity with Divine Vessels.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Very Expensive to Minmax

Build Variants

Start to Level in Act 1 with Rolling Magma and a Wand, both needs to be bought of a Vendor. You can use Cobra Lash with Chance to Poison Support till killing Hailrake in Tidal Island.

Consider Muling a Ranger for 3 additional Wisdom Scrolls and a Momentum Support.

[Muling is the Action of creating a Ranger, clearing the first Zone,checking Vendors for good 3 Links or Movement Speed Boots, then stashing everything and now going starting your additional Character, but with a Bonus]

Caster Regex: "-\w-.-|g-g-|-g-g|g-.-g|b-b-|-b-b|b-.-b|Runn|rint|s:.+(cl|da)"

[Regex shows all 4 Links, GG any and BB any 3 Links, Movement Speed Boots and Claws + Daggers.]

  • BBB for your Main Link Rolling Magma
  • GGG for Whirling Blades starting Level 10
  • 1 Red (only if Friend can buy Holy Flame Totem), 1 Green & 2 Blue Socket for other Gems

Weapons

Use Driftwood Wand into Goat's Horn until you have Dark Arts & Dual Wield Mastery.

Look for a Dagger & Claw to prepare in your Offhand, prefferable one with GGG 3-Link. At Level 10 you can Weapon Swap to use Whirling Blades and swap back to your Wands for Killing Blue Packs, Rares and Bosses.

Dagger & Claw can be White or if you find a Essence of Woe can be used to force %Spell Damage on them. Prefferably with 1 Open Prefix to craft Flat Fire to Spells during Act 3.

Boots

Generaly priotise Movement Speed on Boots, but if needed for Sockets, use it for Sockets. Whirling Blades does not scale with our Movement Speed.

Sockets

Required: BBB on Non-Wand to allow easy Swap to the Dual Wield Dagger & Claw

GGG for Whirling Blades but GG is also ok.

1 Green for Sniper's Mark

1 Red for Holy Flame Totem (requires a Friend to buy for you) which we drop later

Several Blue sockets for Various Gems.

Stats for Rest of Gear

Get any Amount of Resistances, Armour, Energy Shield or Life on Gear.

How it Plays

Campaign

For Campaign the Build uses Rolling Magma into Armageddon Brand & Cremation

And moves with Whirling Blades

Level 1-27

Cast Rolling Magma to clear Packs/ Blue Packs. For bosses Apply Buffs & Mark then Spam Rolling Magma till Rare/ Boss is dead.

Level 28-Maps

Cast Armageddon Brand for White Pack, 2 Armageddon Brand for Blue Packs.

For Bosses

  • Cast Desecrate
  • Place Flame Wall on Boss
  • Use 3x Cremation
  • Use 1x Armageddon Brand (2x once you have Runebinder
  • Cast Flammability
  • Cast Wave of Conviction

Repeat above till Boss is Dead

For Rares use a simple Rotation of Cremation, Flammability and Armageddon Brand

Early Endgame

For Clear Cast Armageddon Brand above each Pack and Dash around with Shield Charge

For Bosses

Cast 7x Armageddon Brand & Curses

Use Brand Recall whenever you can. If Automated, dance around Boss and recast Armageddon Brand till Boss is Ddead

Endgame

Cast Penance Brand of Dissipation and watch the entire Screen get Nuked

For Bosses, cast Curses, then Penance Brand of Dissipation and watch Boss die in Seconds.

Blink around the Screen with Frostblink of Wintry Blast

How it Works

Penance Brand of Dissipation

Penance Brand of Dissipation attaches to an Enemy for up to 5 Seconds. While being Attached it ads Energy to the Enemy every 0.75 Seconds and causes a Damaging Pulse. The Pulse has 30% more Damage for each Energy on an Enemy. The Limit is 20 Energy and all Energy gets removed when the Brand detaches.

The Activation Frequency can be increased by Cast Speed (only increases not mores).

If using Runebinder 2 Brands can be attached to the same Enemy and both will add to the same Energy Pool on said Limit. This halves the Time it takes to reach the maximum Energy, but does not increase the Limit of 20. All Energy will be lost if either Brand detaches.

Conversion and as Extra in Path of Exile 1

In Path of Exile 1 Conversion can only happen in one Direction and at each Step of Conversion any increases and mores are applied, then the next Step is taken.

Physical -> Lightning -> Cold -> Fire -> Chaos

Generic Damage like %inc Spell Damage is applied to each Damage Type after Conversions and as Extra is calculated.

This means that we could never convert Fire Damage into Cold or Physical Damage.

As a simplified Example:

If we have 4% of Non-Chaos Damage as Extra Chaos Damage and like in this Build Convert all Physical to Lightning and all Lightning to Cold.

  • 4% of Physical is given as extra Chaos, then 100% is converted to Lightning
  • 4% of Lightning is given as extra Chaos, then 100% is converted to Cold
  • 4% of Cold Damage is given as extra Chaos.
  • 12% of our Damage is now given as extra Chaos due to using Conversion.

Inner Conviction & Ralakesh Impatience

Militant Faith (Dominus Inner Conviction) replaces all Keystones in range with Inner Conviction.

Inner Conviction grants 3% more Spell Damage per Power Charge and converts all Frenzy Charges gained to Power Charges.

If we would gain a Frenzy Charge in any way like Mark Mastery or Blood Rage. Those would be gianed as Power Charges instead.

There are only 2 Ways to bypass this. 1st is an ally that has Conduit and 2nd is a Ralakesh's Impatience (Frenzy) that only grants the Bonuses as if at maximum Frenzy Charges, but not actualy grants any Charges.

This Interaction also works for the Maven Belts:

  • Arn's Anguish and Ralakesh's Impatience (Endurance)
  • Graven's Secret and Ralakesh's Impatience (Power)
  • Olesya's Delight and Ralakesh's Impatience (Frenzy)
