Patch Nodes for Surfcaster
- The "Flee Chance and Fish Rarity" passives have been renamed to "Flee Chance, Fish Rarity, and Cast Speed" and grant 4% increased Cast Speed
- Screaming Reels now has "60% more Cast Speed while holding a Fishing Rod" (previously 50%)
- Brine Bound now has "Cannot be Frozen"
- Sea Legs now has "+40% to Cold and Lightning Resistances" (previously +30%)
- Ghost of the Deep now grants the following bonuses while possessed by a Tormented Illegal Fisherman:
- 23% increased Damage (from 20)
- 23% increased Attack Speed (from 30)
- 23% increased Cast Speed (from 30)
- 23% increased Movement Speed (from 30)
ITS A BUFF
We loose 7% Movement Speed, BUT we gain 'Cannot be Frozen', 10% Cold & Lightning Resistances, 3% inc Damage ( SO HUGE :P) and 9% Cast Speed (from Small Nodes)
Overview
Surfcaster is a excellent All Rounder Ascendancy that synergises extremly well with
Penance Brand of Dissipation.
The 'Stormy Seas' Node converts all our Lightning Damage to Cold Damage, freeing up BOTH Ring Slots as we no longer need 2x
Call of the Brotherhood. With the Build In Conversion of Penance Brand, all we need is to convert 50% Physical to Lightning with either Mastery + Glove Crafts or Glove Craft/Unveil + Implicit. With the Cold Damage we get an excelent Survivability Layer with Freeze.
The Keepers League also brought us Foulborn Variants of Uniques. Specifically the
Berek's Respite Variant is busted for the Build. One of the Foulborn Modifiers replaces the Shock Spread with Shocked Enemies Explode for a % of their Life, but cannot Shock. The 'Within the Tempest' Node Spreads Shock whenever we Kill an Enemy. In Theory this should work in Paralel and cause the Shock to Spread before the Explosion reaches nearby Enemies.
Surfcaster also grants us other great Buffs: 'Ghost of the Deep', which grants us Cast Speed, %Damage and Movement Speed. 'Glacial Wave' which makes our Chill apply increased Damage Taken and less Damage dealt. And 'Sea Legs' for easy access to Critical Strike Chance by overcapping our Lightning Resistance.
Survivability
Due to several comments asking about the EHP of the Endgame Variant I want to note that most of the Cost is in the Uniques and Weapons. We can easily get way more EHP by getting a better Body Armour, replacing the
Ralakesh's Impatience (Frenzy) with Rare Boots and getting more Energy Shield/ Life on Gloves & Helmet.
It is also important to mention that the Grafts, the 15% less Damage at 30% Chill Effect and enemies being frozen is not calculated by the PoB. Depending on the Difficulty of the Top Idol Strats that alone might be enough.
Looking at Expensive Upgrades we can get the Forbidden Jewels for
Escape Artist or drop the Offhand Wand / Sceptre for a Shield and invest into Block Nodes. The Shield can either be a Rare Shaper Shield with Life on Block or a
Svalinn.
