This is the build we will play through the act 1 boss.
Wand with focus or staff are both fine, just run whichever combo you get more damage on. Make sure to keep your current best wand/focus in case you drop the other later!
Make sure you grab as much cold resistance as you can for the final act 1 boss!

Start by putting Arcane Tempo and Controlled Destruction on your weapon damage skill, then swap them to Essence Drain once you get access to it. If you are using a weapon without a damaging skill, you can put them onto 
Spark instead.
The goal with this skill setup is to spread Essence Drain using Contagion to clear entire screens of enemies while being able to destroy bosses by just spamming Essence Drain.
Make sure you bind Essence Drain and Contagion onto weapon set 1 so you always cast with your staff. You need to craft Disengage with a level 1 gem and try to make sure you get a spear very early so you can wield it without needing stats. I try to have my spear before leaving town for the first time, but if you don't get it check town again at level 3.
