0.5 Best Twister Gemling (Very Broken)

Updated on Jun 30, 2026

Build Overview

Twink Leveling Guide:

Twister does the most unethical damage of all time it can be played on pretty much any ascendancy, here's a guide for how to do it on Gemling Legionnaire which in my opinion is easily the best version of the build, due to the unique quality effects Gemling gets via Advanced Thaumaturgy. Namely multiplicative attack speed for Whirling Slash, multiplicative projectile speed for Twister but most importantly "Chance to not remove Frenzy Charges" for Barrage can easily go up to 100% chance, therefore you permanently have max use Barrage which is extremely good for quality of life and damage. It's also extremely easy to stack quality, where-as spirit/spirit reservation stacking on an Abyssal Lich is not only extremely expensive, but the opportunity cost is significant, for less gain IMO.

Additionally there are inherent quality effects for the skills so you get to double dip on the value of stacking quality, and there's nice little damage buffs from our other skills such as our Heralds, Trinity, Charge Regulation etc.

On top of that Gemling has much better defense due to Virtuous Barrier effectively giving us 95% increased ES+Evasion for free, tons of life/mana regen, and we get crit immunity through Gem Studded

This version of the build has literally everything you want, and after personally trying it on 4 different ascendancies, I can confidently say if you want to best take advantage of this broken skill, you'll have a much better time on a Gemling, full stop.

If you wanted to play a different ascendancy, the next best option is Deadeye due to very good frenzy charge generation with Called Shots + Sniper's Mark, Avidity, extra damage via Thrilling Chase, and getting Tailwind for free for Skill Speed, Evasion, and Deflect value. You also start at the correct side of the tree saving you an entire Jewel socket. It's honestly pretty neck and neck with gemling, it's just way easier to get proj speed on gemling. After that I'd go Abyssal Lich, since you get a lot of projectile speed scaling via Umbral Well. However i'm personally not a huge fan of this setup as the opportunity cost involved for getting spirit everywhere + spirit reservation is very high + costly. On top of that the rest of the Ascendancy doesn't provide much, you get some ES and an extra jewel socket which is pretty nice if you have a giga jewel in there. Beyond that though, you have very weak frenzy charge generation so you're pigeon holed into going Armour Break III + Resonance for frenzies, which leaves you with no way to generate frenzies if you are on a boss. This also means if you don't have a pure phys spear, and over-damage the content, your frenzy generation won't be great. Of course there's Spiritwalker which gets a lot of extra projectile speed and projectiles via Primal Bounty. It's very strong early game, but once you start scaling a lot of speed it feels awful to play around since you have to dodge every 3 casts and time everything correctly otherwise you just get 0 value. IMO it's a cumbersome playstyle and insanely un-fun. It also is just objectively slower, and when I derive 90% of my fun from being extremely fast & efficient, I would simply never play this ascendancy for twister ever again, and would likely pick almost anything else over it. Oracle I've seen do some shenanigans with crit scaling + path unforseen. Witchhunter could unironically be pretty decent with an extra 100 weapon set points just to go insanely fast, and Sorcery Ward is very good defensively.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Disgusting Damage Output
  • Insanely Fast
  • Unkillable if setup well
  • Easy to add rarity
  • Destroys the game on a budget
  • ????

As you can see I wrote a lot of shit here, it's pretty important for min-maxing but for the budget versions you can kinda just yolo copy. If anything confuses you, reference the video as I definitely yapped about it at some point

Spear is The Ordained it just rolls with disgustingly high base crit and very good DPS. For a rare spear to be better it costs well over 300 divines. Try to get one with 11.5+ crit chance and roughly 600+ DPS. They are fairly inexpensive, a 15div one is more than enough to annihilate the entire game.

If you have the money, you can try to emulate my rare spear, mine was about 1k divine. I have a Flying Spear because it has proj speed but it's unnecessary. You want it to either have extremely high phys, or 3 T1 flat ele rolls, or 2 T1 flat ele rolls + t1 ele damage with attacks. In suffix you want Crit Chance, Crit Damage Bonus, Level of All Projectile Skills > Level of All Attack Skills

For your second spear just grab a 10-15D Skysliver with 2.35+ Attacks Per Second. If you have a lot of money you can try to find a Soaring Spear with really high Attacks Per Second

The chest is Morior Invictus (all resistances) w/ all res per socket, chaos res per socket, increased global energy shield per socket, try to get one with 5 sockets ideally, and get as high Evasion + ES as possible. This makes reaching our resistances super easy, but we can also take advantage of some Idols to get quality

My Mageblood roll is Quicksilver x2 Jade, Bismuth. Any combination of these 3 with one being a +2 is fine. Optionally you can swap out the Quicksilver roll for Gold if you want rarity. The damage related ones are unnecessary IMO.

I anointed Thaumaturgic Generator because it drastically helps with the consistency of Frenzy Charges. On my helmet I have Paragon.

For your amulet prioritize getting Trinity + 3 levels of projectile skills. Once you get Atziri's Communion and you swap to the low life setup for more damage, you can use any spirit skill of your choice on your amulet, and manually use Trinity in your actual skill setup since it won't cost any spirit. You can very easily get 5% quality of all skills on your amulet by desecrating the suffix and using "Omen of the Blackblooded" as the quality is a Kurgal modifier. As long as it rolls 3% and above it can be divined to go up to 5%. After that, try to get Evasion/ES/Attributes/Crit

Rings, we use the The Taming the roll isn't a huge deal, just try to get high all res and damage per ailment. Ideally you can get a corrupt enchant, I went for rarity+dex, you can also get skill speed, crit damage, or resistances. For your second ring I personally use Andvarius to get 100% extra rarity but this is obviously at the cost of damage and defense. Otherwise I'd just get a Gold Ring with lots of flat damage, life, resistances if I needed any, or attributes if I needed any. A Breach Ring with lots of flat damage and attack speed would be BiS if I didn't care for rarity.

For gloves you want projectile speed + level of projectile skills which can roll when it is socketed with Kolr's Hunt. This is not mandatory but it is a nice damage boost, the base you get this on isn't super important and it's kinda hard to get a good pair, but it's a decent place to get your runic ward. In addition to those rolls, crit damage bonus, attack speed, and any flat damage is nice. Other good stats include deflection & rarity but that makes it exorbitantly expensive. Gloves can also corrupt with +1 Frenzy Charge which is a nice little bonus.

Boots you want Chance to not remove charges in the suffix which only can roll when using the Uhtred's Sidereus rune. This can roll up to 15%, prioritize that. You don't need movespeed as all your movement is Whirling Slash. Skill Effect Duration is also quite nice here and makes the Twister last longer but it's not necessary. Deflection rating is good defensively, rarity is of course good as always. Try to get a hybrid base with a good amount of Evasion/ES but it's not the end of the world.

For helmet you want 2 sockets in a perfect world if you're rich so you can put in Pain Attunement rune via Aldur's Legacy while also using Raven-Touched Shard to anoint Paragon

You can check your attack speed by clicking on your whirling assault skill with the correct spear out, and checking your attack time. For reference mine is 0.09 with 11.24 APS in town. In combat mine goes down to 0.08. Attack speed for this skill functions in breakpoints, so any attack speed increase you get between 0.12 and 0.11 does nothing if it doesn't reduce the number to the next breakpoint. For most of you I would recommend trying to reach .12 or .11 in combat, .1 or lower requires a decent bit of investment.

QUALITY / CHANCE TO REMOVE SOURCES

For obvious reasons you should try to get quality almost everywhere you can for all of the benefits, but the single most important benefit is the quality that we get for Barrage giving us a chance to not consume charges. We can easily scale this to 100% so our Barrage never consumes our frenzies, so for every single Twister cast we have max projectiles which is extremely broken. You can check your chance to consume by clicking the arrow key on your Barrage skill. You really only need like 95% + but 100 is obviously nice QoL. Above 100 does nothing of course

All Quality Sources:
5% Suffix Roll On Amulet
5% From Fox Idol On Chest
5% From Paragon Anoint/Megalomaniac
3% From Skill Gem Corruption
6% From Gemling Ascendancy Tree
5% From Dialla's Desire for 1 supported skill

All "Chance To Not Remove Sources"
Barrage Quality is 1:1
Up to 15% Chance To Not Remove on Boots Suffix with Uhtred's Sidereus socketed
10% Chance via Idol of Eramir
10% Chance with The Fabled Stag
25% Chance from Perpetual Charge

Why is there a bunch of random shit in all the skill gems? If you have an equal amount of green, blue, & red skill gems, you get all 3 benefits of Gem Studded - at the top of your skills it shows how many you have.

How do I have extra skill gem slots? Because I have a Megalomaniac with Augmented Flesh. This is completely unnecessary, I simply just added Elemental Conflux and Berserk which is not needed at all.

Vorana's Siege + Dizzying Sweep brings our Twister to the 0.6 AoE breakpoint so that's why I use it. Other good supports for raw damage include Ice Bite II, and Retreat III

Please watch the video and skip to the Jewels section as you'll get a much better idea than I'm able to word vomit here

To have an optimized skill tree you need to use a Split Personality Ruby "Shadow start" - this saves you some skill points, the budget setup won't be utilizing this. You need to path from the gemling start to a jewel socket, then path all the way to the start of the monk start, slam the jewel in, then you'll be able to refund the points from the Gemling start. I'll have it placed in the recommended spot in the guide.

Jewels are VERY important, I have From Nothing w/ Resonance technique to giga juice my Time-Lost Emerald. This is only worth it if the Time-Lost Emerald you have in this slot is INSANELY strong, otherwise you're better off with cheaper jewels such as Heart of the Well with x2 gain as extra damage, evasion/es from body armour, skill effect duration/crit damage.

In your Time-Lost Emerald(s) I would prioritize Notable Passive Skills In Radius Grant Critical Hit Damage Bonus For Attacks/Spears > Notables Give Projectile Speed > Notables Give Some Sort Of Damage i.e. Proj, Attack, Ele, DMG against rares > Notabes Give Attack Speed/Speed with Spears. Attack speed does not increase your DPS it is purely for movement, it is a luxury stat, prioritize damage early into the build

If you have Voices Sapphire or a jewel socket in your gloves and just want a standard emerald, you want to try to get one with Crit Damage, Crit Damage With attacks, Crit Damage With Spears or Crit Chance, increased effect of suffixes, and Projectile Speed in the Prefix.

If you want to try and get a Megalomaniac to fit in Augmented Flesh you can use this search here. I wouldn't recommend doing this it's kinda annoying, I just did it for fun. There's more good notables I could include as I found one before I finished adding a lot of good ones. Augmented Flesh Thaumaturgic Generator and Paragon are all interchangeable, just make sure to get a combination of the 3 via your 2 anoints + megalo if you do this.
