Overview

This build is a Hollow Palm Chayula that uses the Gathering Storm and Frost Wall combo that I used on my previous Gathering Storm Invoker Build from 0.2. Combined with Culmination II, this is able to take the damage from pretty much any large burst damage skill and turn it into a One-Shotting Monster.

Why don't you use Falling Thunder?

Falling Thunder is honestly the better option for the big burst skill, but it doesn't quite fit the Hollow Palm Technique fantasy since its more of a slam rather than a punch or a kick. Gathering Storm is a cool palm strike, so that's why I use it! Feel free to use Falling Thunder if you want to be efficient.

Why Acolyte of Chayula?

The reason why I chose Acolyte of Chayula is because it has the node Sap of Nightmares. This allows you to leech based off of Chaos Damage. When combined with Essentia Sanguis and Original Sin, you are able to leech Energy Shield, which most other ascendancies don't get. Given that this build is a SUPER close range build, you will get hit a lot, which will prevent your energy shield from recovering. That is why, the synergy with the Acolyte of Chayula is massive for this build.

When should I swap to Original Sin?

It is HIGHLY advised that you swap to Original Sin at the earliest, after your 4th Ascendancy.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Extremely flashy and fast playstle
  • Skill-based Burst Combo
  • Can use Leech from Sap of Nightmares to sustain mapping
  • Good clear without the need of Heralds, which saves Spirit
  • Can be a league starter
  • Heavily reliant on Original Sin
  • Can be hard to master the Gathering Storm combo
  • If you mis-time the Gathering Storm you need to rebuild combo

Equipment

Helmet

Prioritize getting as much Energy Shield as possible on your helmet. Since Hollow Palm Technique uses Energy Shield for Crit, the helmet will be a huge source of Energy Shield. Critical Hit Chance is a luxury - it's nice if you can get it but it's not required. Focus on survivability stats.

Body Armour

Prioritize as much Energy Shield and Evasion as possible. Also try to get as much Resists as possible as well since you are using Original Sin instead of a rare ring.

Gloves

Essentia Sanguis will be Best in Slot for this build. Being a Melee build with a large Energy Shield Pool and no life means that you will get hit a lot and you won't have much time to recover your Energy Shield. While we don't have the full effectiveness of Chaos Leech from our Ascendancy yet since we are still mostly elemental, we should still get a good bit of chaos damage from Into the Breach and Volatility to upkeep our Energy Shield and for the most part.

Boots

Pretty straightforward - as much Energy Shield and Resistances as possible. As high Movement Speed as possible.

Amulet

Prioritize getting + 3 Levels to Melee Skills. This is a HUGE portion of your damage. Energy Shield is the next priority. Everything else is a luxury.

Rings

Life Leech is a MUST on 1 ring! If you want Mana Leech, get that as well. Also, get as much flat damage as possible. Physical, Cold, Lightning, Fire, are all good. Prioritize Flat Physical and Flat Cold Damage since most of our skills are Cold. Stats are also very good to have since this will be a stat hungry build.

Belt

Ingenuity will be our highest DPS belt. If you have trouble with survivability, feel free to use a rare belt. Headhunter is a good option for mapping.

Jewels

Ideally you want to have one Heart of the Well (new Abyss Jewel) that gives % Instant Leech. If you get that, annoint Overwhelming Strike onto your amulet. If you don't have the Jewel, annoint Voracious.

For the Rare Jewels, prioritize the following stats in this order:

1. Energy Shield

2. Crit Damage

3. Crit Chance

Mapping

Open up into any pack with Shattering Palm and then use Ice Strike to kill the enemy and it should cascade across the screen and act like a Herald. This is why we don't need Herald of Ice or Herald of Thunder.

Bossing

Use Ice Strike until you build enough combo to one-shot the remainder of the boss' HP. The amount of combo you need to build will vary depending on your gear. For reference, it takes me 140 combo to kill Tier 3 Xesht (Highest Tier).

After you build enough combo, put a Frost Wall behind the boss and use Gathering Storm to go through the boss and destroy the Frost Wall. The setup is quite complex, sere is a Timestampped Video explaining the mechanics and how to do it.
