Overview
Basic Mechanics
What are Charges?
Charges are a counter that appear alongside Buffs and Debuffs, but unlike other effects they do not provide any additional stats while they persist on a character. Instead, Charges can typically be consumed to cause a Skill to create an additional effect or even be transformed entirely. For example
Explosive Spear can consume a Frenzy Charge to bypass the explosion timer, hit a larger area and leave behind Ignited Ground.
There are 3 basic types of Charges:
- Power Charge
- Frenzy Charge
- Endurance Charge
Each type of Charge is associated with a specific Attribute which often corresponds with the type of Skills that can benefit from consuming Charges, or the location on the Passive Skill Tree where relevant Charge-related stats can be found. Power Charges are associated with Intelligence, Frenzy Charges are associated with Dexterity and Endurance Charges are associated with Strength.
Duration of Charges
Charges have a default Duration of 15 seconds. Importantly, whenever a new Charge is obtained, all existing Charges of the same type have their Durations refreshed. You can also obtain modifiers on the Passive Skill Tree and elsewhere to improve the Duration of Charges, such as the small nodes leading to
Endurance which each grant '20% increased Endurance Charge Duration'.
Note: when using a Skill that consumes Charges, the duration of those Charges are paused while that Skill is in use to prevent situations where you begin using a Skill and lose Charges to timing out before the animation is completed.
Maximum Charges
By default a character has 3 maximum Charges of each type: Power, Frenzy and Endurance. This means that you can obtain up to 3 of each Charge at any one time, and generating new Charges of each type while at the maximum will simply refresh the Duration of all existing Charges of that type rather than going beyond the maximum.
You can obtain modifiers that provide additional maximum Charges, allowing you to generate and hold a larger amount of Charges at any one time. For example the
Overflowing Power Passive Skill Tree Notable provides '+2 to maximum Power Charges', alone extending the normal limit from 3 to 5.
Interactions
Resonance
The
Resonance Keystone changes generated Charges to instead be a different type of Charge. When this Keystone is allocated, generating Frenzy Charges will instead grant Power Charges, Endurance Charges will instead grant Frenzy Charges, and Power Charges will instead grant Endurance Charges.
