Overview

The King in the Mist appears in the Crux of Nothingness, accessed by using an Audience with the King at the Realmgate, and can drop the following items:

Beetlebite - This is the most common item from the King

Ingenuity - This is arguably the best belt in the game, but only when well rolled. It can have good defensive stats while also being the only belt with Increased Item Rarity in Early Access.

The Burden of Shadows - This is a niche item with a lot of power but a high opportunity cost to utilize, as it provides no gem level boosts

Pragmatism - This is an extremely powerful item that only appears at difficulties 2, 3 and 4

From Nothing - Some versions of this item are among the best items in the game.

In addition to one of these uniques, the King in the Mists will always drop one crafting Omen. Powerful Omens such as the Omen of Sinistral Annulment are rare.

Drop rates are estimates based on runs compiled by the Discord community Prohibited Library.

Please note: The sample sizes are still somewhat small here, and a lot of this information is likely to become more accurate over time.

Drop Rates: Difficulty 0 and 1

For difficulty 1, drop rates have been measured to be about

Beetlebite 50%

Ingenuity 33%

The Burden of Shadows 17%

For most pinnacle bosses, the difference between difficulty 0 and 1 is believed to be just an increased item rarity boost. Same uniques, better other items.

On difficulty 0, only small samples have been run. One person ran 20 and looted only 3 Ingenuity, but this could simply be bad luck. Statistically all this tells us is that either the drop rate is between 5.2% to 36%, or the person who ran 20 had extreme (best or worst 2.5%) luck.

Drop Rates: Difficulty 2 and 3

At difficulty 2, Pragmatism is added to the loot tables.

Based upon a sample of 100, we know that Pragmatism and Burden of Shadows are both quite rare (5.52-17.44%), Ingenuity is in the 21.89-39.58% range, and Beetlebite is between 40.38% and 59.62%.

Larger samples will be needed to tighten these bounds further. It is not unreasonable to assume 50% boots, 30% belt, 10% each of the others.

Drop Rates: Difficulty 4

At difficulty 4, From Nothing is added to the loot tables.

Based upon a sample of 100, it seems plausible that From Nothing is the rarest item and replaces some of the drop chance of Pragmatism and Burden of Shadows, but for the moment, there is not enough data to make firm conclusions.

100 runs awarded 4 From Nothing, 7 Pragmatism, 10 Burden of Shadows, 30 Ingenuity and 49 Beetlebites.
