In Path of Exile 2 patch 0.3, The Third Edict, the Support Gem system is getting a major overhaul. With new tiers of Supports, fewer limitations and the introduction of new Lineage Supports, players should have more flexibility to be creative when creating new builds
Overview
Lineage Supports
Support Gem Limitation
In previous PoE 2 leagues, players were unable to equip more than one of the same Support Gem on a single character (apart from Gemling Legionnaires), which limited build diversity. With The Third Edict patch, players are now able to equip multiple copies the same Support Gem across different Skills.
Support Gem Tiers
In addition, many Support Gems now have Tiers which increases their power by improving their values, granting new effects or changes their functionality in interesting ways

While not all Support Gems will have up to three Tiers, many will. Overall, this change should help lower level characters achieve higher levels of power early on, while also providing opportunities for more builds to become viable in the endgame.
Lineage Supports
Players will also be able to find 40 new powerful Lineage Support Gems, which are drop-only and cannot be acquired through the Engraving Window with Uncut Gems. These Lineage Supports can be found in the endgame by defeating certain bosses, as drops from certain endgame content and some as lucky drops

Some of these Lineage Support Gems will be build-enabling, massive damage boosts, or provide inspiration for entirely new builds.
