Overview

Video on right side is about overall currency making, including crafting with Expedition and Essences.

This guide is mostly about crafting with Expedition currency.

Not so much about Expedition mechanic itself as it's fairly simple. You find it in map, you place explosives to cover as much chests/remnants, start it, kill mobs, collect loot and open chests.

While crafting with Expedition Currency has much more depth into it, so let's start!

First shortly about how magic/rare items work:

  • Magic items have up to 2 modifiers, 1 Prefix, 1 Suffix.
  • Rare items have up to 6 modifiers, 3 Prefixes, 3 Suffixes.

Prefixes and Suffixes are two separate groups of Modifiers.

Guide

Currently there's 4 Expedition NPC's

  • Dannig (Selling Currency for other 3 NPC's).
  • Gwennen (Selling Weapons).
  • Tujen (Selling Jewellery).
  • Rog (Selling Armor).

Note, they not just sell gear, they allow you to "craft" it few times, providing one of few options randomly.

List of options you can get when crafting items

  • Adds single Prefix or Suffix.
  • Adds modifier to Magic item making it Rare.
  • Fill all empty Prefixes and Suffixes.
  • Reroll all Prefixes or Suffixes.
  • Reroll values of Prefixes or Suffixes (Like using Divine Orb).
  • Remove lowest level modifier, it does highlight what exact mod it would remove.
  • Remove all Prefixes or Suffixes.
  • Also, you can skip current option, but then you couldn't skip next one.

General tips for Expedition crafting

  • If item is still bad after you used couple options, just take it and vendor it. You can vendor bad items into same window you buying items from.
  • If you get item with good Prefixes or Suffixes, your goal is trying to keep those good Prefixes and hope for Suffix rerolls or vice versa.
  • Rarely you will find good items (with good mods) from beginning, so of course pick them!
  • If you got decent item but it doesn't cost enough for you bother selling it, then add Sockets, Quality (if its ES base) and Vaal, soon or later you will hit something good with Vaal Orb that will make relatively cheap item expensive.

Gwennen (Weapons)

Example for search: expert|skills
This will highlight all Expert Weapons and all Caster Weapons, plus Focus with +1-2 to Level of all Spell Skill.

Items to pick for crafting:

  • Bows:
-Expert Dualstring Bow, every single one you find. With 2 ways for it.

    1. Keep it Magic (so do not click upgrade to Rare).
Hunt for Prefix reroll to hit high %Phys or high flat Physical Damage on Magic Expert Dualstring Bow which goes for decent amount of Exalted Orbs, up to multiple Divine Orbs, depending on what Suffix it has.
This works for Quarterstaves and 2H Maces as well, people do buy Quarterstaves and 2H Maces with high %Physical or flat Physical Damage.

    2. If it's already Rare, then just look for Prefix/Suffix rerolls to hit high Phys DPS with good suffixes.

    - Any Expert Bow with Phys Damage base, good Flat Phys Damage, %Phys damage or %Phys Damage/Accuracy (It's single mod that has two different stats).

    - Any Expert Bow that has like +4 to Level of All Projectile Skills or higher.

    - Any Expert Bow that has couple really good suffixes, like Critical Chance, Critical Damage, Attack Speed, Additional Projectile.
  • Quarterstaves, 2H Maces and Crossbows:
    - Any Expert Weapon with good Flat Phys Damage, %Phys damage or %Phys Damage/Accuracy. Then you craft it hoping for other phys mods with good Suffixes like Attack Speed, Crit Chance, +# to Skill Levels.

    - Any Expert Weapon with +# to Level of all Melee Skills, i'd suggest atleast +3. Then your goal is get good Phys Damage on it.
  • Wands:
    - Only if its +4 to Levels of any type of Skills or higher.
  • Staves:
    - Only Staves i would pick to craft is if it has +5-6 to Level to any type of Skills.
  • Scepters:
    - +4 to Level of All Minion Skills or above.
    - High %Spirit, like 50%+.
  • Focus:
    - If it has +2 to Level of All Skills.
  • Quivers:
    - Only if it has +2 to Level of All Projectile Skills.
  • 1H Maces:
    - For now i skip those unless its good from start, since 1H Maces have little to no use for now.

    - Only one that worth picking is Expert Warpick, since there's builds that run crit mace builds with that specific Mace. So if you found good one, then pick it.

Tujen (Jewellery)

Tujen is more simpler in terms of understanding what items are good.

Items to pick for crafting:

  • Amulets:
    - Any Amulet that has +3 Levels to any type of Skills.

    - Any good base Amulet, so no Crimson Amulet, Lunar Amulet or Azure Amulet.

    - Any Rare Amulet that is not Crimson Amulet. So you pick it and hope to get Prefix/Suffix rerolls.

What to look for on Amulets in general, and when to keep Prefixes or Suffixes, higher to lower priority:
    1. +2, preferably +3 to Level any type of Skills. So you trying to keep it, with attempting to get other good mods.
    2. High Spirit, like 30+, especially on Solar Amulet.
    3. High Attributes (Str, Dex, Int), more - better.
    4. If it has good combinations Prefixes or Suffixes.
    For Example:
    - High Life with %Life.
    - High Mana with %Mana.
    - High Energy Shield with %Energy Shield.
    - Combination of high Mana + Energy Shield, or Evasion + Energy Shield.
  • Rings:
    - Any good Magic Ring (not Iron Ring, Lazuli Ring or Emerald Ring) with either good Prefix (High Life, Mana), or good Suffix (High Resist, any of 3 Attributes). Or high Item Rarity, its also valuable mod.

    - Any Rare Ring that is not Iron Ring, Emerald Ring or Lazuli Ring(unless has high Mana). So you looking for Prefix/Suffix rerolls.
  • Belts:
    - Any Magic Belt with good Prefix (High Life or Mana), or good Suffix (High Resist or Strength).

    - Any Rare Belt if you want to pick it hoping to get multiple Prefix/Suffix rerolls.

Rog (Armor)

I didn't craft much with Rog as armor crafting with Expedition feels least rewarding, could be wrong.

Currently most of build use either Energy shield bases, Evasion bases, or hybrid Evasion/Energy Shield body armors, so that's generally what you looking for.

For search also type: expert|skills
It will show only Expert bases plus helmets with +# to Level of Minion skills, and gloves with +# to Level of Melee Skills.

But still check all armor, this filter is just to highlight higher tier bases, as advanced armor still can be good with good mods.

Of course pick up any item that is good from beginning!

Items to pick for crafting:

  • Helmets:
    - Expert Energy Shield bases, so your main goal is to get Prefix rerolls to hit high Energy shield.

    - Rare or Magic Armor or Evasion base Helmets with either good Prefixes (Life, high Armor/Evasion), or good Suffixes (High Resists, Attributes).

    - Any helmet with +2 to Level of Minion Skills, best is Energy Shield bases, or at least hybrid bases with Energy Shield.

*If you get Helmet with +2 to Level of Minion Skills, but other mods are bad, add socket and Vaal it. You might hit +1 to Level of Minion Skills corrupted enchant, which will skyrocket price of that helmet.
  • Body Armors:
    - Expert Energy Shield bases, so your main goal is to get Prefix rerolls to hit high Energy shield.

    - Rare or Magic Armor or Evasion bases with either good Prefixes (Life, high Armor/Evasion), or good Suffixes (High Resists, Attributes).

*Since there's Morior Invictus that is extremely good Body Armor to any non-ES build, so any Rare Evasion/Armor Body armor will lose to it, so even really good one will not cost much.
  • Gloves:
    - Expert Energy Shield bases, so your main goal is to get Prefix rerolls to hit high Energy shield.

    - Any gloves with +2 to Level of Melee Skills.

    - Rare or Magic Armor or Evasion base Helmets with either good Prefixes (Life, high Armor/Evasion), or good Suffixes (High resists, attributes).

    - Gloves with high attack speed are decent starting point too, like 12%+

    - Or any good combinations of Suffixes or Preffixes. For example: couple Resists, couple Resists with Attribute or Attack speed, high Life with good prefixes like high Flat Damage.
  • Boots:
    - Expert Energy Shield bases, so your main goal is to get Prefix rerolls to hit high Energy shield with Movement Speed.

    - Any boots with high movespeed, like 25%+.

    - Rare or Magic Armor or Evasion base Helmets with either good Prefixes (Life, or/and Movement Speed), or good Suffixes (High resists, attributes).
  • Shields:
    - For now its mostly pure Armor bases with good Prefixes: high Block Chance, Life, Armor.

    - Good Suffixes: Maximum Elemental Resistances, Physical Damage Reduction, Strength, Chaos/Elemental Resistances.

Shortly about my experience with Expedition (Updated Feb 12)

In total i spent around ~2000 Exotic Coinage. Enough to understand that it is profitable, especially considering current prices, for 1 Divine you can buy over 200 Exotic Counage, like 1000 of Currency of whatever NPC you want to craft with. Remaining exalts for slamming good items

Most of crafting i did was when 1 Divine was 130 Ex, so amount of Expedition Currency i could buy per 1 Divine was much smaller than now.

Even considering that, with around 25-30 Divines invested in total, i made over 300 Divines including 180 Div jackpot, or over 120Div without it, plus a lot of items still sitting in trade tab.

Some results/thoughts:

  • Gwennen, overall is most RNG based, as weapons have to be really good to sell for decent currency.
    What i crafted/sold:
    - Few Magic Quarterstaves, Bows and 2H Maces with high %Physical Damage and good suffix. When i spot weapon with high %Physical Damage i don't click upgrade to rare.
    - Few good Rare Quarterstaves with high DPS and decent suffixes that were sold between 5 and 15 Divines.
    - Few 2H Maces anywhere from 100ex to 10 Div.
    - One Bow for 3 Div, those just not want to roll good mods lol.|
    - Couple Quivers for 100ex to 4 Div.
    - And one jackpot item which was Focus, for 180 Div.
  • Tujen, overall is more consistent, about same as Rog, as threshold for good ring, amulet, belt or armor piece is lower when comparing to weapons.
    What i crafted/sold:
    - Rings with good Life + Resists, Mana + Resists, Life/Mana + Attributes.
    - Amulets with good Suffixes (Resists/Attributes) and Spirit.
    - Couple Amulets with +2-3 Levels and other good mods.
    - Few Belts, but those not go high, like most expensive i sold was 3 Div.
*Still have a lot of Jewellery in trade tab.
  • Rog, also fairly consistent like Tujen. Mostly i crafted Energy Shield gear as its current meta, and it sells fairly fast.
    What i crafted/sold:
    - All types of Energy Shield armor, more Helmets, Gloves, slightly less Body Armors and Boots.
    - Couple good Shields with high Armor, 7-8% Physical Damage Reduction and high Block. Those are used by basically any Melee Mace build.
    - Few non-Energy Shield armors with good mods, generally speaking Life with Resists or/and Attributes.
    - One Helmet that had +2 to All Minion skills but other mods was kinda mid, so i vaaled and hit +1 to All Minions skills, and later sold for 25 Divines.

So if you want more consistent results do Tujen or Rog, if you want to gamble for big weapons, do Gwennen.

When to Exalt items crafted with Expedition

  • Simply when you got good weapon with 1-2 Phys mods, and it has open prefix to potentially slam another phys mod.
  • When you got Energy shield armor piece with good es.
  • When you got any good jewellery with good mods, like life/mana + resists/attributes.
  • Or any weapon/armor that you think is good enough to slam. And since Exalted Orbs are cheap, slam everything that is at least slightly good!

That's all for now, guide will be updated in future if something changes. If you find it informative, feel free to share!
