Build Overview

Really fun build with cheap unique interactions that still scales well into the endgame as you min-max specific gear pieces and spirit.

The prime interaction of the build is The Whispering Ice automatically chills enemies in your presence, and Frost Darts gives huge benefits when hitting enemies that are chilled.

Update video: https://youtu.be/JF8afjnPTo0

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Cheap Gear (currently)
  • Multiple budget levels scaling into endgame
  • Easy Sorc Leveling with Spark + Orb of Storms + Frost Bomb
  • Chrono buffs giving 30% DR is MASSIVE
  • Chrono Temporal Rift heavily removes the reliance on Faster ES Recharge, something that's been nerfed in 0.5
  • Mapping is more or less one button
  • Reaches over 10k Max Hit
  • Top end (multi mirror) scaling is more limited
  • Chrono's value comes in the form of extra buttons
  • The Whispering Ice is not a common unique making SSF difficult to plan around
  • Wants some currency to start (try and get jewels and amulet first)
  • Staff is being heavily influenced on trade

Build Variants

Tooltip should be around 30-40k here on a 30 div budget and should be more than enough to clear everything.

Note that all rare gear will be listed with the BIS modifiers. Please see description for what we're targeting for each tier.

Equipment Priority

+ Levels to Spells is the MOST important part, along with scaling some spell damage.

The Whispering Ice is the core interaction in this build and (currently in league) is incredibly cheap. Focus on +levels. Then Exposure.

Runes in order of priority for the staff: Hedgewitch Assandra's Rune of Wisdom, Saqawal's Rune of the Sky, Thane Girt's Rune of Wildness, Greater Storm Rune or Greater Vision Rune, Greater Iron Rune. Why Storm Rune? Getting gain extra as lightning will help with shocking which is a nice multiplier in this build.

Chiming Staff is purely for the Sigil of Power on set 2.

Alpha's Howl for the extra presence area as well as spirit, something this build also needs, can be extremely impactful as well for scaling purposes.

Maligaro's Virtuosity used for early crit scaling. This allows us to skip investing in Crit Damage.

Helmet runes are VERY important. Idol of Egrin and Saqawal's Rune of Erosion are very nice for this build and improve the damage. It also pairs with Darkness Enthroned (helmet) as both are helmet slots.

OPTIONAL Snakepit must be worn in the LEFT ring slot. The goal is that every time you cast Frost Darts, you shoot 3-5 darts, and each dart will then Fork into 2 more projectiles and target other enemies around. Improves mapping immensely. This ring can also be cultivated and many of the mods are good. Mana Cost Efficiency, Chance to fire Additional Projectiles, Meta Energy Gain, Projectile Speed, are all good modifiers to have. Do note that you don't want to remove the "Left Ring: Projectiles from Spells Fork"

Solar Amulet or Twisted Amulet (with either Archmage or Cast on Critical) is the ideal as spirit is a huge value in the build. On a budget you just want to focus on getting a few spell levels and spirit. Don't worry as much about the mana, cast speed, or crit chance. Getting more defences such as Increased Maximum Energy Shield or +to maximum energy shield are also very viable here to help with the defensive layer on a budget.

OPTIONAL There's a new unique amulet called Eventide Petals that was announced which can be a huge improvement to the damage and AOE of the build. How it works is that every critical hit on a rare or unique enemy generates 3 petals. 10 petals = 5 ice crystals which can shatter to deal damage. Every 1 cast of Frost Darts launches 5 projectiles. Each projectile breaks into 2 chunks giving us 10 chunks. Therefore, every single cast is 15 hits in a Single Target scenario generating us 45 petals, or 20 crystals.

Prismatic Ring or Mnemonic Ring (new ring base with mana%) are good options. Focus on getting resists solved before you build in your other stats. Cast speed on rings is HUGE and far outweighs what you generally get from entire clusters on the tree. A lot of clusters also have downsides like Overzealous having increased mana costs and Erraticism with reduced Critical Hit Chance.

Sirenscale Gloves get rare gloves with defences. Ideally get Arcane Surge on critical if you can (this is suffix desecration). However, the Arcane Surge part is not a requirement.

Boots and Belt are standard.

Vile Robe, Feathered Raiment, Flowing Raiment are all good options. Vile Robe features the highest base ES in the game as well as the lowest required level of the key ones. Feathered Raiment is nice because the implicit "Damage is taken from mana before life" gives you, effectively, some Damage Reduction when losing ES. Flowing Raiment is my personal favorite as mana is in general a pretty restrictive resource. On a budget, focus on the defences. Any spirit roll is a benefit. Note that spirit reservation efficiency is suffix desecration only.

Jewels - Heart of the Well or Sapphire will very much want a mana on kill to smooth the experience on mapping.

Heart of Ice is provided by the The Whispering Ice staff and is therefore innately given.

Sigil of Power is provided by the Chiming Staff and is therefore innagely given (on set 2).

Temporal Rift is provided by Chronomancer and is innately given.

Time Snap is provided by Chronomancer and is innately given.

Time Freeze is provided by Chronomancer and is innately given. Make sure to set this to Set 2.

Frost Darts is obviously your main skill. This is the priority for your perfect jewellers. Make sure to set this to Set 1. Once you have access to lineages, Tul's Stillness is a good option. DO NOT USE Rakiata's Flow this will nerf your damage.

Blasphemy is an amazing pairing with The Whispering Ice. We're able to stack double slows with Temporal Chains, and also double minus resists with Elemental Weakness giving multiplicative damage. For this version, Elemental Weakness will be manual cast for bossing.

Cast on Critical is a nice damage scalar and improves the mapping experience by doing auto targeting skills. I would recommend Cast on Critical over Elemental Weakness in Blasphemy, which would be around 155 spirit for both Cast on Critical + Blasphemy Temporal Chains. Once you have access to Dialla's Desire it's a great option as it will lower the mana cost and improve the damage of the Frost Darts, as well as lower the spirit cost of Cast on Critical.

Archmage is really nice for damage once you start scaling mana, however, obviously adds to the mana cost.

Passive Tree

main:

set 1:
20

set 2:

This tree brings you to level 90 or so.

Note that Stormcharged is nerfed and should NOT be used.

Do NOT build any Cold Pen% as this is useless with the exposure + Elemental Weakness combo. Noting that Glaciation is more for the Gain Extra as Cold for 1 point, not for the Cold Pen%.

Your goal is to get to around 90% Critical Hit Chance before Evocational Practitioner procs.

Some other considerations to spec:

Efficient Casting - close to the start and helps with mana situation.

Overexposure

Stripped Defences

Ingenuity and Patient Barrier

Enhanced Barrier

Dampening Shield

If Missing Points:

Consider dropping Master of Hexes (6 points).

Further, if not enough mana and you haven't added in Archmage yet, remove Arcane Intensity and Raw Mana (7 points).

Invocated Efficiency isn't a huge source of damage as the main Frost Darts cast is strong enough, and can be dropped (4 points).

Before getting an Against the Darkness, Stupefy and Dizzying Hits are lower value. Take these before any of the previous mentioned notables as they still add solid damage, but drop them if levels are lacking (6 points).

How it Plays

Run around casting Frost Darts at enemies.

Instead of using Flasks, use Temporal Rift to reset your life + energy shield + mana while mapping.

On bosses your rotation is to start with Sigil of Power, Soul Offering. Spend all your mana casting Frost Darts then press Temporal Rift.

As needed, Time Freeze both in mapping and against bosses to get free DPS uptime.

Time Snap gives you instant access to your cooldowns again, allowing you to chain multiple Time Freeze + Temporal Rift. Note that Time Freeze has reduced effectiveness when chained multiple times.

How it Works

The Whispering Ice has amazing pairings with Blasphemy Elemental Weakness Temporal Chains, Frost Darts, Eventide Petals, Snakepit, and Heatshiver.

Changelog

6/5/2026 - Overhaul of the tree and skill gems + supports. Added Maligaro's Virtuosity on the low end. Added trade links.

Moved from Blood Mage to Chronomancer

5/27/2026 - Alpha's Howl replacing Heatshiver as the default recommendation. The Extra spirit, if the player can obtain it, will significantly smooth the experience on the lower budget. For all budget levels it also improves survivability as enemies further out from the player are now chilled, meaning projectiles pose less of a threat. Heatshiver is still a very strong option for adding more damage to the build in the case that Alpha's Howl is not cheap enough.
