Build Overview

Cast on Critical Comet Blood Mage is one of the strongest Spellcaster Variants. This build takes that old and proven Cast on Crit Setup and puts it into a new Shell for a fresh and fun gameplay loop.

Utilizing several niche Item and Skill Interactions to create a simple, yet extremely powerful Build.

Capable of one-shotting entire screens of enemies and melting bosses in seconds.

Even the major Pinnacle Bosses of the Endgame cannot withstand the sheer onslaught of Comets and Toads. Toads?!? Yep, Toads, and oh boy do they pack a punch!

0.5 Return of the Ancients brought us several new toys for curse casting and also reworked one of the existing Ones. Turning it into the most unique Lineage Gem the game has. With its own secret broken interaction that I have seen nobody else use.

What sets this Variant of CoC Blood Mage aside from others is the utilization of Curses.

This Caster is built around the new Liminal Coil and its innate Skill Coiling Bolts.

Liminal Coil sets Curse Effect to 0, but grants Damage as Extra Physical and Chaos for each Curse on the target. With 6 Curses, this Wand is only slightly weaker than Mirror Tier Wands for a Fraction of the Cost. It also comes with Coiling Bolts a new Spell that can clear an entire Screen of Enemies while costing 0 Mana.

For Single Target, this Variant utilizes Doedre's Undoing on top of the classic Cast on Critical Comet setup, for additional Damage. Doedre's Undoing turns the Supported Curse into Cursed Ground that summons Toads, which will seek out Enemies and Trigger it's own Active Skill, dealing massive Chaos Damage in an area around the Target.

The Blood Mage Ascendancy is perfect for the Playstyle, more than doubling the Critical Hit chance of Coiling Bolts and Doedre's Undoing, as well as granting access to Life Leech and Life Recovery with Life Remnants. And also adding a good amount of Survivability with Grasping Wounds and Crimson Power.

This Build also utilizes the established Setup of Eldritch Battery + Mind Over Matter + Lifetap to invert the Roles of Life and Mana. Using Life as the Caster Resource and Mana as a Defensive Layer.

It then somewhat Double Dips on the resources with a cultivated Rathpith Globe. Replacing the cost an additional 6% of maximum Life Line with 6% increased Spell Damage per 100 Maximum Mana.

Altogether, this Build combines the old proven Cast on Crit Comet Core with the new Curse Toys for a smooth and fun Gameplay Experience.

Liminal Coil, cultivated Rathpith Globe and Absent Amulet with Cast on Critical are required for this Build to function.

Overall, you need 120 Spirit from Gear split between Body, Amulet, and Boots.

Budget Alternative for the Spirit is a Alpha's Howl + Boots.

Mageblood isn't required, but reduces Resistance Pressure on other Gear and allows for more Rarity on the Build if desired.

Coiling Bolts

Embitter enables Mana Remnants

If you don't have enough Cast Speed, drop Considered Casting for Rapid Casting II on Coiling Bolts

Ricochet II grants Coiling Bolts a 50% chance to chain of any Wall. When this happens, all Chain Targets reset and Coiling Bolts can hit each Enemy again. This is mainly good for single-target damage, but can help with Clear during Encounters with lots of Rares too.

Other Skill Notes

Use Elemental Weakness for Doedre's Undoing cause we use Endless Blizzard for +1 Level to Comet and it also affects Ele. Weakness and as a result Doedre's Undoing.

Overabundance II in Elemental Weakness increases the Limit of Doedre's Undoing twice!

  1. It increases the Limit of Cursed Grounds from 2 -> 3
  2. It increases the maximum Amount of Toads per Cursed ground from 4 -> 5

This results in more Pre-stacked Toads and more Toads per Second for more Triggers per Second.

Doedre's Undoing cannot generate Energy for Cast on CriticalTriggers

Use Atalui's Bloodletting for Comet and Lifetap on Elemental Weakness and Vulnerability

Corrupt the Curses in Blasphemy for +1 for slightly more Curse AoE, no need to quality them as we don't have any Curse Effect with Liminal Coil.

Quality and Corrupt Comet. Vorana's Siege and Ixchel's Torment increase the AoE of Comet, replacing the need for Spell Cascade. One Comet has way bigger AoE now and we get more Damage on top.

Quality Liminal Coil with Arcanist's Etcher for +2 Split for both Projectiles each!

And also Quality Blasphemy, Mana Remnants and Vulnerability

Blasphemy only active in WS 1! This Way Vulnerability applies its Curse Effect, and you still benefit from the 60% Damage as Extra.

To reserve all Curses in Blasphemy + Mana Remnants, you require 215 Spirit, 20% Quality on Blasphemy and Efficient Inscriptions

Passive Tree Notes

We use Eldritch Battery + Mind Over Matter to convert our Energy Shield into Mana and use it as Survivability.

We use Life as our Casting Resource instead, as we can more easily sustain it via Vitality Siphon and Life Remnants

Use Weapon Set 2 Points for Curse Magnitude, Skill Effect Duration, and Cooldown Recovery. We only use WS 2 for Sigil of Power and Vulnerability

Use Weapon Set 1 for Crit and Damage Nodes with no Attribute gain.

Spam Coiling Bolts on Boss to kill.
