Build Overview

Cast on Crit Comet is an endgame build guide and an extension of the Spark Stormweaver Leaguestarter build.

This is an endgame Cast on Critical Comet Stormweaver setup built around auto-targeting damage, permanent freeze pressure, and huge burst damage against pinnacle bosses.

The build uses Spark and Orb of Storms for fast screenwide clear, then triggers powerful Comets through Cast on Critical whenever enemies are tanky enough to survive. It is especially strong in juiced content because more rares, uniques, and dense encounters give the build more opportunities to trigger Comets.

This setup is designed as the endgame transition from Spark Stormweaver. You can league start as Spark, farm your core pieces, then swap into CoC Comet once your gear and Spirit setup are ready.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Extreme levels of DPS
  • Perma-freeze + high energy shield defense
  • Immune to bleeds and poison (Chaos inoculation defense)
  • Massive Offscreen Clear-ability and fully automatic aiming, with hybrid Spark Orb of Storms Cast on Critical Comet setup
  • Visual clarity can be difficult in boss fights, with unnumerable volleys of Comet's constantly slamming down from the heavens

Build Variants

For Build variants, it starts off with a setup that is current corners to make it cheaper, and the updates will get progressively stronger as well as more expensive. I would refer to the latest update, to get an idea of what my character on stream currently looks like.

This is and endgame extension of Spark Stormweaver. The following leaguestarter guide is the budget version of this build, that will progress naturally into this Cast on Critical form later on.

FAQ:

Q: How do I solve mana?

Efficiency II on all skill gems, anoint Conservative Casting on amulet, Mana Remnants with Storm's Recollection for additional remnants and pickup radius, mana regeneration on gear (ie Flowing Raiment base for free extra regen), Efficient Casting on tree, 2% Mana on kill on Sapphire, Clarity II spirit gem if you have extra spirit, mana regen on ring. These are alot of examples and you don't have to do all of them.

Zenith II will also help reduce mana cost and you should put this on all your damage spells if your mana cost gets solved with it. It reduces mana cost, adds 30% more damage, but only if you do not drop below 90% mana.

Q: How do I get enough spirit?

You want 181 total spirit (91 spirit for qualitied Cast on Critical, and 30 spirit for each of Mana Remnants, Siphon Elements, and Convalescence

100 spirit - Campaign side quests

35-50 spirit - Staff amanamu prefix craft

15 spirit - Solar Amulet implicit

30-50 spirit - Amulet prefix

30-61 spirit - Body armor prefix

20-30 spirit - Helmet corruption

Q: What should I anoint?

Extreme low budget Heavy Ammunition, but this is not a low budget build, so this is irrelevant imo

If you need to fix mana Conservative Casting

If you don't need mana Climate Change

Aspiring Genius lets you remove Constant Gale for a different ascendancy point.


Q: What are the best stats for a Staff?

2 Handed Staff Trade link: PoE2 Trade - Path of Exile (sort by sum, change max price as necessary)


Q: What should I get on jewels?

The stormweaver spark playlist has a bunch of useful resource, including a deep dive that covers jewels. Do not try and copy my jewels exactly, because I was just going off a list of good mods and getting something with 4 of them. I would say % max energy shield is a mandatory mod though.


Q: Why use Elemental Equilibrium?

This lets our Orb of Storms create cold infusions for Spark, and lets our Frost Bomb create fire infusions for Comet. There is no easy way to create fire infusions without using this keystone.


Q: What is the weapon swap for?

Sigil of Power is found on a Chiming Staff. You can make use of weapon swaps in order to get this massive DPS buff while still using a different staff for your damage. Here is a youtube video guide on how to set up weapon swaps. You don't have to use the different weapon swap passive trees, just make sure your spells are allocated onto the correct weapon, as shown in the video.

Orb of Storms is cast on left click with Unleash in order to quickly get out 3 orbs

Spark will trigger every orb of storm cast, in order to get an absolutely ridiculous amount of hits on enemies. This enables Cast on Critical and also provides a ton of damage, as we have 3 very high damage spells.

Cast on Critical Comet will rain down to shotgun bosses, and you will get them insta-deleting packs quite frequently as well.

We generate cold infusions to buff spark via Orb of Storms paired with the Elemental Equilibrium keystone, as well as passively via Siphon Elements.

We generate fire infusions to buff comet via Frost Bomb paired with the Elemental Equilibrium keystone

Sigil of Power and Elemental Weakness are optional buttons bound to our weapon swap, that we can drop while waiting for a boss to come out of its animation. You can swap Cursed Ground for Hex Bloom support for map clear if you want.

Convalescence is a panic button

Mana Remnants is great value because we have a lot of investment in remnants, and this helps keep our mana pool at 100%

How it Plays

Core Idea

The build scales three damage sources at the same time:

  • Spark
  • Orb of Storms
  • Cast on Critical Comet

Spark and Orb of Storms handle most mapping. Comet is your heavy-hitting nuke for rares, rituals, juiced content, and pinnacle bosses.

Do not build around making hundreds of weak Comets fall on every small monster. The stronger setup is to let Spark and Orb of Storms clear normal enemies while keeping Comet powerful enough to destroy anything that actually matters.

Why the Build Works

The build is strong because it combines several layers at once:

  • Auto-targeting damage
  • High hit frequency from Spark and Orb of Storms
  • Cast on Crit Comet triggers
  • Permanent freeze pressure
  • Resistance reduction from Frost Bomb and Elemental Weakness
  • Huge burst windows with Mana Tempest and Sigil of Power
  • Strong scaling from crit chance, cast speed, gem levels, and cold damage

This makes the build very good against the new endgame bosses because you do not need to aim perfectly or chase them around the arena. You set up your damage, keep hitting, freeze them, and let Comets do the work.


Basic Mapping Setup

For mapping, your standard gameplay loop is:

  1. Drop Orb of Storms.
  2. Cast Spark through it.
  3. Use Mana Tempest before scary packs, rituals, or dense encounters.
  4. Use Sigil of Power when you can preload damage.
  5. Keep moving while Spark, Orb of Storms, and Comets clean up.

Spark cast inside Orb of Storms causes Orb of Storms to fire chaining hits across the screen. This gives strong clear and frequent hits for Cast on Crit.

Mana Tempest should be used proactively. Do not wait until the situation is already bad. If you are about to start a ritual, open a dangerous encounter, or fight a juiced rare, use Mana Tempest first and delete the screen before it can become a problem.


Bossing Setup

For pinnacle bosses, your goal is to preload as much damage as possible before the boss becomes vulnerable.

Use this setup:

  1. Place Sigil of Power.
  2. Preload Elemental Weakness.
  3. Use Frost Bomb as the boss becomes vulnerable.
  4. Drop Orb of Storms.
  5. Cast Spark.
  6. Use Mana Tempest during your burst window.
  7. Let Cast on Crit Comet shotgun the boss.

Frost Bomb and Elemental Weakness reduce enemy resistance heavily, which massively improves your burst. Spark and Orb of Storms hit repeatedly, which triggers Comets. Mana Tempest then boosts the entire damage package.

This is how the build can insta-phase pinnacle bosses.


Defensive Identity

This is not a face-tank build. The defense comes from stopping enemies from playing the game.

Your real defensive layers are:

  • Freeze
  • Range
  • Auto-targeting
  • Offscreen clear
  • Killing enemies before they attack
  • Convalescence for Energy Shield recovery

If you are playing correctly, most enemies should be frozen, dead, or unable to reach you. Convalescence is there to recover Energy Shield when you do take hits, but the goal is to avoid needing it constantly.
