Copper is one of the fundamental early-game resources in Subnautica 2, needed for several early items and upgrades, such as the Basic Battery.
However, Copper is not as easily found in the starting area, and players will need to venture into caves and further areas to get easy access to copper.
Where can Copper be obtained?
The biggest Copper supply near the Lifepod is in the Colonists Bunker's cave. This place can be found roughly 200 meters to the South-East of the Lifepod. You'll identify it by the surrounding lights and the pillar that sticks out of the water.
Alternatively, you can wait until you get Chap's Signal in your Lifepod, which will let you track down this place.
Copper Ore is found in underwater caves, usually hanging from the ceiling. This cave in particular has several Copper veins. You will identify them by their yellow tint.
Use Copper to create the Basic Battery
With Copper and Acidic Raion Pouch (harvested from orange egg-looking flowers in the starting area), you'll be able to create Basic Batteries. These act as Power Supplies to Bases and are used to build a variety of tools as well.
Power up the Welcome Center and get Biomods
With a Basic Battery, you can head to the Welcome Center and power it up. This will let you interact with the computer and, more importantly, grab some permanent Biomod buffs from the Bio Lab area.
After powering up the Center, head to the Bio Lab. In this terminal, you'll be able to equip one active Biomod and one passive Biomod. These are permanent equippable upgrades to your character that will allow you to reach new areas in the game and make exploration easier.
