Intro

There are various characters players obtain for free in Neverness to Everness, as they progress through the game.

This Guide lists all free characters so you can plan accordingly your early game progression, and your possible teams.

Beware that due to Esper Elemental System, some A rank characters are solid, and help form certain combo teams, even at endgame.

List of Free Characters

Zero

Zero | Main Character | S rank | Cosmos | Solid

Role: Reaction Enabler

How to Obtain: Starts the game with

Comment: Best free character, and an S+ tier overall, thanks to their instant Esper Cycle refill on skill use. This perk alone make Zero the backbone of all reaction-based teams on top of the Esper Circle (Remora, Blossom, and Charge reactions).

There are way too many teams requiring Zero, to the degree of limited characters pull value being determined by the fact that they require Zero or not, and whether Zero is busy in another team or not.

Aside from reactions, they have Decent AOE, decent DPS, with a minor self sustain on triggering Charge

Worth Investing? Yes. Best value.

Mint

Mint | A Rank | Anima | Liquid

Role: Main DPS (AOE)

How to obtain: Finish the Prologue

Comment: Good AOE for an A Rank, and works well Zero as she's part of the same Esper Wheel. She boosts the AOE of Blossom Reaction (Cosmos + Anima), and she's easy to play. She can team with Zero and stack her passive with other Anima characters in Nanally team. Though in the end, Nanally is a big upgrade over her in every single aspect, and Jiuyuan is also better.

Worth Investing? No

Adler

Adler | A Rank | Incantation | Bose

Role: Shielder & Single Target DPS

How to Obtain: Reach Eibon Antique Shop, early in the main story

Comment: He pairs well with Mint in early game to proc Hexed Reaction (Anima + Incantation). And his shields provide generic value to any team, he can help survives the hardest challenges in endgame. On top of having DoT damage, he can be on field or off field, and generally is easy to play.

Worth Investing? Yes, in Scorch teams only with Lacrimosa or Baicang

Haniel

Haniel | A Rank | Psyche | Solid

Role: Support (ATK Buffer)

How to Obtain: The first pull when you unlock Gacha system.

Comment: Her role is solely buffing the team, but she has three ATK buffs stacking with each other's. Now she fits in almost any team as a good support, regardless of the elements and reactions. But she's only best-in-slot in Nova team or at least Stain reaction with any Lakshana or Psyche main DPS team.

Worth Investing? Yes

Aurelia

Aurelia | A Rank | Psyche | Liquid

Role: Single Target DPS

How to Obtain: Day 3 login reward from launch event

Comment: She has good synergy with Nova reaction (Psyche + Chaos), and Discord (Incantation + Psyche + Chaos), so one of her options is pairing with with Daffodill. Her Ultimate groups the enemies, and her playstyle revolve around holding dodge button to spring across the field in constant dodging status and firing projectiles that auto-aim at enemies while consuming stamina.

Worth Investing? Only for your second team if you lack any limited DPS

Chiz

Chiz | S Rank | Cosmos | Gas

Role: Main DPS, with high highs, and low lows)

How to Obtain: Get high level in City Tycoon

Comment: Chiz, all her dupes (awakenings), her signature weapon, and all weapon dupes is obtained for free through the City Tycoon. But she takes a long grind to reach that point, so she's not available from the very start. Her kit is unique, and relies on Grain Market indicator, and deals high damage when unleashing her charged skill at high stacks of Grain market, and low damage on low stacks. She's was one of hardest characters to play, while rewarding high player skill. But this aspect got toned down at launch, she's much stronger now, and the backbone of f2p dps in the game.

Worth Investing? Best free DPS character

S-Rank Selector

NTE rewards all new accounts with a Standard S rank Selector after 50 pulls in the Standard banner, and in version 1.2 there's another selector.

There are strong options in the selector, and it's a vital choice for building player account.

When to use: usually it's better to wait and see what other S Rank characters you get from standard banner at pity. So you don't select a character then gets a dupe instead of getting new character.

Who in the Selector:

  • Baicang (Incantation, Bose, Main DPS, DoT)
  • Daffodill (Chaos, Liquid, Burst DPS, Break Boost)
  • Fadia (Psyche, Bose, Damage Prevention, Sustain)
  • Hathor (Lakshana, Plasma, Burst DPS, AOE)
  • Jiuyuan (Anima, Solid, Burst DPS, Control)
  • Sakiri (Incantation, Gas, Support Buffer, Control)

Who should you select: Depends on the main team you building, you either pick someone to compliment your Limited banner DPS, or pick a new main DPS to build around. And - typically - a Burst DPS or a Support has more value and longevity, as they are harder to powercreep than a Main DPS.
