Monster Hunter WildsYian Kut-Ku Guide - Weaknesses, Location, Armor & More

Overview

Yian Kut-Ku is a returning Flying Wyvern in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its main features are its oversized beak and brutish nature.

This monster is seen living in packs of multiple individuals –including baby Yian Kut-Kus– and it mainly uses its beak to attack hunters. It can also spit fire balls.

This guide is written by JourneyFar.

Location

Yian Kut-Ku is found in the Scarlet Forest and Iceshard Cliffs.

How to Prepare

Yian Kut-Ku’s attacks are mainly physical, except its Fire ball attacks. Improving Fire Resistance will help with the fight.

It can fly, so using Flash Pods will knock it down of the air. Additionally, it is sensitive to Sonic Pods due to its large ears.

Mechanics to Look Out For

Bombing Run

Using its light weight to its advantage, it will run forward while flailing its body and spitting fireballs to the side with each step. This rush will end with Yian Kut-ku tripping over itself. That trip is a good time to attack.

Pecking Combo

A combo that can be telegraphed when it raises its head high then proceeds to quickly peck down in the ground in front of it. Has a somewhat wide front area as it pecks from side to side and not the same spot. Can also use it continuously. So long as the Hunter is not in front, it can be avoided.

Fireball Spit

Another move that is telegraphed by the way it raises its head but instead of pecking down, it launches a fireball spit. An enraged version will have a little bit more delay but will have a bigger explosion when it lands. Usually aimed straight at a Hunter but is not a huge ball. So moving to any side can effectively dodge the ball form. However, the explosion can still hit unaware Hunters.

Fly & Strike

Beats its wings to take to the sky then flies to an enemy and strikes with their talons. The beat of the wings can cause minor wind pressure and leave a Hunter open for the talon strike. Not staying right under Yian Kut-ku will help avoid this problem.

Beak Rush

Positions the head low to rush past everything. Knocks people away if hit and effectively moves to a new position.

Retreat

A quick beat of their wings to retreat and create distance. The beat of wings can cause minor wind pressure. Not being close under Yian Kut-ku will avoid the wind pressure.

Fire Spit Combo

Spits out fireballs in a spread pattern in front. Yian Kut-ku will try to aim at Hunters. Because it is a long distance move, it can be evaded if seen.
