Rathalos doesn’t have a set habitat and can be seen in the Windward Plains, Oilwell Basin, Ruins of Wyveria, and Wounded Hollow.
Rathalos's attacks are mostly physical, but its talons can Poison hunters. Bring
Antidote to help. Improving your
Fire Resistance will help mitigate damage from its fireballs.
Like other Flying Wyverns, Rathalos can be knocked out of the air with a well-timed Flash Pod.
Rathalos can lunge forward toward you, ending with a bite that covers even more distance forward. Dodge sideways to avoid it.
Rathalos can lunge forward while flying, hitting hunters in front of him. Dodge sideways to avoid getting hit.
Rathalos can perform two 180 degree tail sweeps. Dodge out of the way or through the attack with a tight timing. Rathalos can reposition right before performing this attack, so be wary of its position.
Rathalos can suddenly jump into the air before crashing down hitting hunters beneath it. Dodge out of its body to avoid this attack.
Rathalos will fly at you with his talons forward, attempting to trip you before sweeping his tail up –which can poison–. He can chain this into a weak talon attack after. You must dodge the first talon attack, otherwise his tail sweep will hit you and poison you.
Rathalos can sweep its tail while in the air, hitting hunters directly beneath. Time your dodge right to avoid getting hit, and potentially poisoned, too.
Rathalos can fire up to three fireballs that each track a target and have a brief delay in between. Get beneath Rathalos or dodge with a tight timing to avoid them. This attack sometimes creates a temporary wound on his head after.
Rathalos can throw out fireballs while on the air, with precision enough to warrant perfectly timed dodges. He can spit out to three balls and this attack sometimes creates a temporary wound on its head.
Rathalos can perform a 180 degree flame sweep while on the air. Dodge beneath him or in the direction he’s facing.
While in the air, Rathalos can prepare a flaming breath attack that comes from beneath him and tracks hunters in front. This attack has a long reach, so dodge sideways. It leaves room to attack afterward and creates a temporary wound on rathalos’ head.
While Rathalos is in the air, hitting him repeatedly will make him stay in place. Staying on the offensive long enough will knock him down.
If one of his wings is broken, Rathalos will fail to fly, giving you opportunity to attack.
