Rey Dau Gamma Set - TU1 Changes
Arch-Tempered Rey Dau has just released, and the new Set Bonus is shifting the meta.
Guts (Tenacity) is the 3-piece set bonus, which grants 5% Attack with full uptime until you cart (faint) once. Assuming you don't cart, this is a massive Raw buff for Gunlance.
5% of Lawful Bor's 240 Raw is 12 Raw, making it a powerhouse of a Group Skill.
Latent Power is a nice bonus, but Gunlance doesn't care too much about Affinity. Even still it's a nice bonus to have for the poke damage.
General Notes
Gunlance is a very unique weapon in Monster Hunter due to Shelling Damage. A majority of the Gunlance's damage comes from these Shells and the way it scales differs from traditional weapons.
Shelling damage scaling only off Raw (ignoring Affinity/Sharpness).
This greatly determines the meta for both weapons and Armor sets.
G. Lawful Bors is one of few weapons with Slightly Strong Shelling and boasts high Raw to compliment it.
The one other weapon that can compete with
G. Lawful Bors is
Blazing Lael, the new Zoh Shia weapon. Unfortunately, Blazing falls short by about "5%." Even still, if you want a change of pace, you can build both and not notice too much difference.
Raw Damage - Armor Skills
The goal of Gunlance Armor sets is to provide as much Raw damage as possible. This can be done a myriad of ways, but the standout skils are:
Guts (Tenacity) (Apex γ 3-Piece Group Set)
Burst (More value at lower points)
Agitator
Burst Boost I (G. Ebony Set)
Binding Counter I (Dahaad Set)
Resentment (small bonus)
Counterstrike (small bonus & play dependent)
Resuscitate (Apex β 3-Piece Group Set)
Binding Counter I provides 25 Raw for 1 minute upon Power Clashing. While not every monster can Power Clash, this is still one of the few best options. Notably,
Binding Counter II does the same but 50 Raw.
Burst Boost I &
Burst Boost II also provide Raw while extending the duration of
Burst, another Raw skill. (No longer used)
Resuscitate is the older bonus that was used before AT Rey Dau released.
Weapon Decorations
Since Shelling damage is the core of Gunlance,
Load Shells &
Artillery are both required, using up two decoration slots. The last slot is used for
Guardian Jewel (
Offensive Guard).
Earplugs
Lastly,
Earplugs is a great skill for Gunlance to finish combos. While it doesn't directly increase damage on paper, in practice it will allow for higher DPS uptime.
Currently, the only monsters that require
Earplugs 3 are:
- Zoh Shia
- Gore Magala
- Jin Dahaad
- Gravios
There is a separate variant with slight differences for
Earplugs 3.
Speedrun Notes
Overall, this build recommendation is for general play, not for specific speedruns. The environment for speedrunning can change builds by quite a bit. For example, if you can guarantee an early Power Clash,
Binding Counter II becomes overpowered in a sub 2 minute hunt.
We saw many Zoh Shia Speedruns fit
Windproof 2/3 into their builds as well, which can drastically alter Armor choices. This is a generic build recommendation meant for 99% of players.
