Marvel RivalsMarvel Rivals Loki Character Guide
Loki Overview
The God of Mischief has a kit that is equally tricky for enemies to deal with, as it is for the user to master. Loki provides his team with a good balance of healing and damage. His focus is often on making up for his team's weaknesses.
Where Loki and his Illusions will position is highly dependent on the enemy team's comp and playstyle. When needed, he can use clones aggressively to target vulnerable enemies, or defensively to ensure his allies stay in the fight.
The versatility and complexity of his kit make him arguably the most difficult Strategist to use. Mastering this trickster yields great rewards as he can adapt his game plan to carry any match.

TLDR
As
- Place Illusions on opposite sides of yourself to create multiple angles of damage/healing.
- Save Devious Exchange and Deception to escape and survive against enemy attacks.
- Think ahead about who you want to shapeshift into and when. Plan out a way to target them.
Against
- Destroy his clones and immortality rune stones. Neither of these abilities move so destroying them is not difficult, and they generate a ton of value when ignored.
- Track Regeneration Domain. If you see it used, you know you have a long window of time where he won’t be able to save his team again.
- Flying heroes have a major advantage against Loki because they are challenging for him to hit, and his clones are easy for them to destroy.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
Versatile
Loki’s clones allow him to be strong against both dive and brawl comps. Against dive comps, he can space out his illusions, switch places with them, and help fortify his team's defenses. Against more brawl comps, his splash damage applies intense pressure on the enemy frontline which makes it difficult for them to take space.
Copy Any Ultimate
While every other hero in Marvel Rivals is limited to a single ultimate Loki can copy any hero's ultimate that has been selected on either team. This gives Loki unique control over the pace of a team fight since at any point he can surprise the enemy team with an offensive or defensive ultimate.
Immortality Cooldown
The only Strategist with a way to keep his team alive against every single ability in the game. What’s more, is he can do this every 30 seconds which makes it very difficult for the enemy team to correctly time their offensive ultimate usage.
Weaknesses
Low Damage and Healing Without Illusions
When both cones have been destroyed, Loki offers very little help to his team. Poor illusion placement or the enemy focusing his illusions make it impossible for Loki to keep up with the other Strategist’s raw output.
Difficult to Damage High Mobility Enemies
A very slow projectile speed makes it very hard for Loki to apply pressure against high-mobility enemies. Fliers in particular are very strong against Loki and can play without much fear of his damage.
Ultimate Limited by Available Heroes
If your team suddenly needs a defensive ultimate but there are no Strategists with a defensive ultimate in your LoS; well there's nothing you can do. The same can be said if you want to combo an offensive ult with a teammate’s, but suddenly you can’t find your planned copy target.
Ability Tips
Primary Fire: Mystical Missile
DESCRIPTION | Fire Mystical Missiles to heal allies or deal damage to enemies |
KEY | Right-click |
CASTING | Single-cast projectile with delayed impact that also generates a spell field |
DAMAGE | The projectile deals no damage, while the spell field inflicts 30 damage per cast |
RANGE | 3m spherical radius |
DAMAGE FALLOFF | Falloff begins at 0.5m, decreasing to 50% at 2.5m |
PROJECTILE SPEED | 100 m/s |
HEALING AMOUNT | The projectile does not provide healing, but the spell field provides 40 Health per cast |
FIRE RATE | 1.75 rounds per second |
AMMO | 12 |
CRITICAL HIT | No |
Tips for Primary Fire: Mystical Missile
- Only Splash Damage
- The actual projectile deals ZERO damage. Therefore, aiming at the target's feet will help you to either hit their hitbox or hit the ground next to them and get the AoE spell field either way.
- Focus on Groups
- Take full advantage of Mystical Missile’s AoE by focusing closely grouped-up targets. You’ll farm ult significantly faster from both your healing and damage by doing so.
- Slow Projectile Speed
- Loki’s primary fire is very slow which makes targeting fast moving and small targets difficult. Focus on slow and large targets like Vanguards.
- Severe Damage Falloff
- Loki only deals 50% of his max damage at 2.5m or farther.
- Point-blank clones deal significantly higher damage.
- Also means outside of point-blank range, Loki always deals the same damage whether a target is 10m away or 100m, so feel free to snipe.
- No Healing Fall off.
- Healing output is the same on near and far allies
Secondary Fire: Deception
DESCRIPTION | Become Invisible and conjure an Illusion to deceive enemies |
KEY | Right Click |
CASTING | Instant Cast |
SPECIAL EFFECT | Loki leaves an illusion in his place and becomes invisible while continuously healing himself. This invisibility has no time limit, but any actions other than casting Devious Exchange, reloading, or casting Doppelganger will render him visible |
HEALING AMOUNT | Health regenerates at a rate of 20 Health per second while invisible |
COOLDOWN | 15s |
Tips for Deception
- Reload, Reposition, and Heal
- The primary use of becoming invisible is to buy yourself to reload, reposition, and self-heal without being targeted by the enemy.
- If you need to move from one side of the battle to the other, try using Deception and saving Devious Exchange.
- Remain Invisible
- Can create new illusions and use swap places with illusions, while remaining invisible.
- While Invsible, Loki self-heals 20HP per second.
- Don’t Try to Sneak Around
- Enemies can hear your loud footsteps, so being invisible is not very useful for sneaking around.
[SHIFT]: Regeneration Domain
DESCRIPTION | Use Rune Stones to create a magical field that provides allies Healing and converts incoming damage into further healing |
KEY | SHIFT |
CASTING | Release a spell field at the location of Loki and the Illusion |
SPECIAL EFFECT | The spell field is sustained by Rune Stones. It will disappear if the Rune Stone is destroyed or if its maximum duration is reached. Allies within the field will receive healing over time, and any damage taken will be converted into healing based on the amount of damage taken |
RANGE | A cylindrical spell field with a radius of 5m and a height of 2m |
DURATION | 5s |
CONVERSION RATE | 30% |
HEALING AMOUNT | 100/s |
RUNE STONE HEALTH | 100 |
COOLDOWN | 30s |
Tips for Regeneration Domain
- Be Aggressive
- Making an ally briefly immortal enables them to make huge plays.
- Example: The Punisher can’t be CC’d during his ultimate so the only way to stop him is to eliminate Frank Castle. Throwing Regen Domain on an Ulting Punisher makes him an unstoppable killing machine.
- Use on Reaction
- Loki doesn’t always have access to a defensive ultimate so Regen Domain’s primary function is to use reactively to enemy ultimates.
- Example: Regen Domain will prevent all teammate's deaths from an enemy Psylocke’s ultimate for anyone in their AoE.
- Be Selective
- A very long 30-second cooldown gives the enemy a huge window of time to attack and be certain Loki can’t save himself or his team with Regen Domain.
- Try to only use Regen Domain when you or an ally are very likely to die.
[E]: Doppelganger
DESCRIPTION | Project an Illusion that can cast some of Loki's abilities |
KEY | E |
CASTING | Targeted |
MAXIMUM DISTANCE | 30m |
SPECIAL EFFECT | Project an Illusion at a selected location |
COOLDOWN | 2 charges, with each charge taking 12s to recharge |
Tips for Doppelganger
- Illusion Actions
- Illusions copy your abilities no matter the location or distance.
- Regen Domain, damage/healing can be activated from spawn.
- If you know you have an Illusion alive near the fight, spam primary fire while returning from spawn and you might get in some healing/damage.
- Placement
- Typically, you’ll want to place your Illusions on high ground and to the sides of your team to create multiple angles of attack.
- Quickly place two behind the enemy's back line. You can often burst down an enemy Strategist or create chaos within the enemy team.
[Q] Ultimate: God of Mischief
DESCRIPTION | Shapeshift into a targeted ally or enemy hero and use all their abilities except any of their Team-Up Abilities |
KEY | Q |
CASTING | Targeted |
SPECIAL EFFECT | After transforming, Loki's Ultimate ability will be fully charged. Casting a transformation-type Ultimate ability will extend the duration of Devious Exchange until the transformation ability ends |
DURATION | 15s |
ENERGY COST | 4000 |
Tips for God of Mischief
- When to use Defensively or Offensively
- Offensive: Two Scenarios to use offensive ult copy (Example: Groot)
- 1. When an offensive Ultimate has a high likelihood of immediately winning the fight.
- Following your Duelist/Vanguard’s ult that was countered by the enemy's defensive ult. Since now you know they can’t counter yours.
- If the offensive ult didn’t end the fight, cancel the copy because your team is at a major disadvantage without your healing.
- 2. Force out enemy defensive ults.
- Enables your allies to follow up with their ultimates and potentially wipe the enemy team.
- Defensive: Two Scenarios to use defensive ult copy (Example: Luna Snow)
- Keep your team alive, or stall the objective.
- Counter an enemy ultimate.
- Most of Loki’s ult copies will be for the purpose of activating a defensive ult and keeping his team alive during an enemy offensive ult Like Spider-Man’s Spectacular Spin.
- Copy a Hero You Know Well
- You don’t want to transform into someone that you don’t know well and end up having to look down at their abilities and inputs.
- Select: “Double Confirmation for God of Mischief”
- It’s better to have to take the extra half second and confirm your copy selection than to accidentally get the wrong hero and wrong ultimate.
[F]: Devious Exchange
DESCRIPTION | Swap with the selected Illusion |
KEY | F |
MAXIMUM DISTANCE | 30m |
COOLDOWN | 15s |
Tips for Devious Exchange
- Don’t Need LoS
- Devious Exchange automatically switches you with your closest Illusion (Needs to be within 30m range).
- You don’t need to be looking at them and don’t need LoS. If the ability is shown as available, you can use it.
- Devious Exchange will be grayed out if there are no illusions in range
- Escape Ability
- Loki’s best means of escaping enemy attacks.
- Can be combined with invisibility to make running away much easier.
[V]: Backstab
DESCRIPTION | Pull out a dagger to stab enemies, dealing extra damage when attacking an enemy from behind |
KEY | V |
CASTING | Single-cast Spell Field |
DAMAGE | Damage: 30; Backstab Damage: +15 (total of 45) |
RANGE | 3m |
Tips for Backstab
- Calling it a niche ability would be generous
- Essentially a useless ability. Loki gets a measly 15 extra damage when backstabbing. You basically should never be positioned in a where you could backstab somebody.
[PASSIVE] Team-up: Laufeyson Reborn (Hela)
DESCRIPTION | When Hela lands a final hit in defeating an enemy, she can instantly resurrect Loki and Thor in the respawn phase, or grant them bonus health if they are still alive |
KEY | Passive |
SPECIAL EFFECT | When Hela defeats an enemy, if Loki is still alive, he will receive Bonus Health. If Loki is defeated, he will respawn on the spot after a short delay |
BONUS HEALTH | 50 |
RESPAWN DELAY |
Tips for Laufeyson Reborn
- Don’t need to do anything other than have Hela on your team.
- Very Strong Team-Up. Worth asking if any of your teammates play Hela, or swapping to Loki if you see your team has a Hela that is popping off.
Synergies
Team Comp Synergies
Team comps built around Loki have a strong frontline presence. Loki’s lack of mobility and slow projectile speed makes it difficult for him to keep up with dive Vanguards or mobility Deulists.
The splash healing of his primary fire on the other hand, make him excellent at healing team comps that position close to their front line. As a counter pick, Loki works great against flankers because of his multiple illusions, escape, and immortality ability.
Loki's kit provides him with a high amount of versatility since he can function as peel for his backline, a heal bot for his frontline, or set up assassinations with his illusions on the enemy backline.
- Vanguards: Groot, Magneto
- Duelists: Hela, Moon Knight
- Strategists: Loki, Cloak & Dagger
Hero Synergies
Vanguards: Groot
Doppelganger illusions, when combined with Groot’s walls, overwhelm the enemy team with non-hero targets. Both Loki and Groot want their deployables to stay alive as long as possible and creating a multitude of the deployables for the enemy to destroy increases the survivability of each one.
Additionally, Groot’s Strangling Prison is one of the easiest ultimates to win a fight with, so teaming up with Groot doubles the frequency at which your team can get those free wins.
Duelists: Hela
Loki is already a solid pick as a Strategist, but Loki with constant bonus health and instant respawn is even better. Having Hela on your team not only allows you to benefit from your Team-Up passive, but Hela also covers many of Loki's weaknesses. Whereas Loki has a difficult time damaging flyers and high mobility enemies, Hela makes quick work of these with her hitscan primary fire.
Strategists: Cloak and Dagger
Loki always wants a defensive strategist ability to be available to him and Cloak and Dagger has one of the best defensive ultimates. Dagger’s auto-tracking healing can also easily sustain the allies that Loki has difficulty tracking. Round this duo off with Loki’s specialty of thwarting enemy flankers trying to target Dagger and you have yourself a well-rounded and fortified backline.
