For games within the Extraction genre, like Marathon, seasons and resets are a normal part of their lifespan to keep things fresh and the playerbase somewhat balanced.
This is because when a new season arrives and a reset happens, aspects like loot and progression restart and the players have to begin anew.
While this seems like mostly a downside at first, it is usually accompanied by new content to make it feel like a new experience (not too different from what ARPGs like Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 do).
Keep in mind also, that if resets never happened, the game would highly favor veterans and players with the most amount of playtime since the gap between them and newer and busier players would continually widen over time.
For games to survive the long-haul, it's typically a good idea to have welcoming entry points where new blood can enter and not feel at too much of a disadvantage (besides skill).
In this guide, we've got the scoop on what Bungie has in mind for Marathon Seasons.
