Your
W is your biggest strength. It can block incoming damage, which means it can block long-range executes and damage that can save your life.
Mel’s Passive is quite strong, thanks to the execute element of it. You can execute enemies once they are below a certain threshold.
She is the ultimate mage! She has good skill expression which suits any player who loves to throw out their abilities.
In some matchups, you cannot use your
W to block core spells. This includes matchups against champions like Leona (due to her ) and Blitzcrank (because of his ).
Unlike many champions in the bottom lane, Mel lacks a mobility tool. This makes her vulnerable to champions with one, and she needs to play a lot safer when she is against hard engage champions.
It is very easy to consume your stacks on the minion wave instead of the enemy champion. Doing this means you will lack damage.
0 - 15 min
Get help from your Jungler and utilise your good gank setup with your
E. Poke the enemy down, but keep the minion wave closer to your side of the map so your Jungler can gank you.
Keep harassing the enemy down with your
Q and empowered auto-attack to keep the enemy low. However, versus hard-engage champions, do not over-commit to doing so.
Your job early is to basically keep harassing the enemy ADC down. If the enemy Support is a squishy utility Support, then focus them instead.
15 - 25 min
In the mid-game, make sure you’re sticking with your team at all times. Mel is very squishy so if you’re caught out alone, you’re going to die! Stay with your team at all times.
In team fights, position at the rear of your team while you throw out abilities. Focus the nearest enemy champion.
Save your
W to counter major abilities such as enemy Ultimates. Only use it to save peoples lives and don’t waste it! A good enemy team will engage while your
W is on cooldown.
25+ min
In the late game, continue staying with your team. If you get taken down, the enemy can force the Baron or even end the game.
Likewise, you need to avoid going to ward alone. Either do not ward and wait for your allies, or only go to ward if you know where the enemy team is (for instance, on the other side of the map or if they are all dead).
By the late game, you should be able to dish out a lot of damage, but you’ll still be vulnerable. Continue playing around your
W and avoid fighting unless it’s up otherwise you will die and the enemy will force a fight while it’s down.
Your first power spike is levels 3 and 4. When you put a point in ever ability, you are a bigger threat in lane. If you auto-attack them enemy after using your
Q, you can deal a lot of damage at level 3 and 4.
When you’ve completed your first component item after your first back, your damage output increases and you’ll have some damage to hit back at the enemy.
Your third power spike in the lane is when you hit level 6. Your damage output will increase a lot more as your Ultimate
R also empowers your empowered autos, so you can deal extra damage in trades.
At level 9, Mel will max out her
Q ability. Maxing out this ability allows her to deal a lot of damage in fights and will also help her clear waves!
When she hits level 11, she will put a second point in her Ultimate
R. The more points she puts in her Ultimate
R, the better she will be as her Passive damage will also increase with every point in her Ultimate
R.
During the mid-game, Mel would’ve completed several items, making her damage output much higher, which means she will be a bigger threat in team fights.
In the late game, Mel will be full build. This means she should be dealing a lot of damage in fights, so group with your team.
At level 16, Mel will put the final point in her Ultimate. At this stage, your Passive, empowered autos and your Ult will deal considerable damage in fights.
Make sure you’re grouping with your team in the late game so you can deal tons of damage and abuse your full-build.
