Focus on poking the enemy down with your To the Skies! / Shock Blast Q before committing to a fight. Jayce is more of a poke champion rather than a 1v1 dueler.

Aim your To the Skies! / Shock Blast Q so it hits the enemy and the minion wave at the same time to push them under their tower.

Jayce is a mana hungry champion. Avoid using all of your mana in the early game trying to poke. Save enough mana for your Thundering Blow / Acceleration Gate E so you can disengage if the enemy tries to fight.
