Build Overview

Aspect of Momus is an extremely fun Descura Aspect that can be built in several different ways to match your play style and preference. To fully immerse yourself in this weapons niche, you should learn how to build and use its Omega Move cycles.

This guide is based on utilizing the Omega Move combat loop, to maximize the potential of Aspect of Momus's Omega Bursts.

Use this build to create a powerful and safe strategy that is equally effective at 0 Fear for your first win, all the way up to 62 Fear. As always, I'll go over some variations and give you multiple options so you are prepared to end up with a great build no matter what you are offered or which Gods decide to show up that night.

In the Builder, you'll see all the Boons and upgrades I used when beating the game at 62 Fear with Momus staff, along with a few recommended changes that are more optimized.

  • If you'd like to see gameplay of Aspect of Momus in action, check out the linked YouTube video of my 62 Fear Momus run in the underworld.

Poms of Power

The ultimate Momus Build takes Ares and high rolls for Grievous Blow and Mutual Destruction. All three of your Omega Moves benefit from the double damage chance. Once these come online, you're damage skyrockets!

An easier and more reliable variation would be Starting with Heaven Strike as the Blitz damage is strong from the get go. It always allows you play for standard Attack/Special combos and not worry about channeling Omegas.

Both are viable options, I just personally feel if you are going to play Aspect of Momus, you definitely want to use a lot of Omega Moves, otherwise just play Aspect of Melinoë.

  • Momus is really flexible. I included 3 very different looking builds I've used under the Victory Screens section below. Try out different variations and see which you like best.

Starting Loadout

Arcana

Night (X) is THE Aspect of Momus Arcana Card. Never run Momus staff without it. Even at max rank, the Ω Move Pulses last 4 seconds each. Meaning you always have time to get one or two different Ω Moves out in each cycle.

  • Should mention that ONLY the first Omega Move of each benefits from Night (X). The two follow up Bursts will not deal Crit from Night (X).

Eternity (IV) will help with your ability to reactively dodge cancel your Ω Move channeling. When using Jeweled Pom start, its very easy to allocate 3 Grasp to this Arcana, so I'd recommend using it.

  • Eternity (IV) does not slow down IGT, so if you're having trouble with Vow of Time, I recommend NOT using it.

Keepsakes

Jeweled Pom is King in post-credits runs, so of course using a Fates' Whim loadout is very good.

Specifically for Aspect of Momus, I also like starting with either Harmonic Photon, Iridescent Fan, or Barley Sheaf. Each of these three Gods have great synergy with Momus Staff.

Demeter is my personal favorite because Freeze will make it easy to Channel Ω Moves, and Weed Killer + Local Climate massively boos your Ω damage.

Familiar

Hecuba is good for taking away any worry about Magick limitations.

If feel you need defensive sustain, Toula, Frinos, and Gale are each good depending on preference.

Raki is best for damage and speed, because even a 4% Crit chance over the cource of a run adds a lot of damage to the high numbers of your Omega Moves.

Oath, Vow, Fear

The hardest Vows specifically for Aspect of Momus imo, are Vow of Frenzy 2 and Vow of Pain 2 & 3. It can be quite challenging to not get hit a lot while channeling Ω Moves so often, and Vow of Frenzy makes it extra challenging. You can run Eternity (IV) to help offset the increased enemy speed.

Vow of Wards means your initial Ω Moves deal no damage, but since the pulses repeat, its not overly punishing to have activated. It will slow down your pace quite a lot, however, because you won't be killing on spawn.

Vow of Hubris can really screw you over as well and prime you out of Magick.

Other than these, the standard rules apply for how challenging the different Vows are. You can find a more in depth breakdown of Fear here

General Tips and Tricks

Combat Loop

  1. Drop Cast to act as a spacing barrier between you an the hoard of foes
  2. Dash to safety, then line up an Ω Attack
  3. Dash to new safe position, Ω Special
  4. Dash to new safe position, Ω Cast
  5. Repeat steps 2 - 4

You need to use your Cast to keep yourself safe. Prioritize safety over damage from Omega Casts until you get multiple Ω Cast Boons in your build.

Abuse the long range of your Ω Attack and Ω Special, and attack enemies from outside their attack range.

Ω Attacks are excellent to use behind cover. They reach THROUGH environment, so find walls and barriers to stand behind and channel those Attacks.

Spawn Traps

During every single enemy spawn phase (start of encounter and between waves) you should be setting up Ω Moves to hit foes the as soon as they spawn in.

The moment you see a spawn location, drop any of your Ω Moves in the path, and set another before they are fully in and attack you.

You can kill most enemies before they have a chance to every hit you.

God Boons

Omega Damage Buffs

Demeter grants Weed Killer and Local Climate. Both are extremely good. Normally, the Attack boost is a bit better but if you have Geyser Spout, then Local Climate is unbeatable.

The ultimate Cast grab would be getting Hostile Environment for +100% Ω Cast damage, and have it follow you around as you move about.

Notice how high Cast damage is on the Victory Screens below. Don't sleep on the Ω Cast.

  • Geyser Spout is the only Ω Cast that fires all 3 times. Meat Grinder, Prominence Flare, and Glorious Disaster only trigger once.

Exceptional Talent only adds a single extra Burst to Aspect of Momus Ω Attack/Special. It does NOT make it hit 6 times.

Core Boons

For optimal Ω Attack damage, grab any of the damage % modifier Boons. A personal favorite is Vicious Strike to inflict Wounds, and add Ares to your God pool for the aforementioned damage Boons.

For Gain Boons, Lucid Gain and Born Gain are best. Tranquil Gain, Ionic Gain, Flood Gain will work well.

Avoid Glamour Gain and Grisly Gain.

Literally any Special Boon will work. It'll likely be your lowest damage source, but grabing Sworn Flourish is great for Hitch. Otherwise just get any Curse if you need to activate Origination (XIV).

Upgrades and Support

Hex

Dark Side is not a Hex I often recommend but its really good with Aspect of Momus. Your Omega Bursts will continue to erupt during your invulnerable transformation, so you won't be losing out on much damage.

Make sure always use the Ω Cast during Dark Side!

Hammers

Mirrored Thrasher & Dual Moonshot will both make you fire 6 Ω Bursts with each use. They literally double your damage output, so grab them whenever offered.

Cross Cataclysm is kind of bait. Doesn't seem to help bring that much extra damage. Pretty much any other Hammer can be useful.

Victory Screens

Victory Screen

Jeweled Pom build I used to clear 62 Fear with Aspect of Momus.
Even at ultra high fear, you can still get in those Omegas!

No damage momus

Early Access run at 32 Fear. Zero Damage underworld run.

Low Fear Victory

Harmonic Photon start. Recommended for 0-32 Fear. Used Nova Strike and Lucid Gain.
