Overview

The Deep North introduces some of the strongest food in Valheim, with new options for Health, Stamina, and Eitr builds.

The best food depends heavily on your playstyle. A melee build usually wants a mixture of high Health and Stamina, while magic builds need enough Eitr to comfortably use Staffs without sacrificing too much survivability.

DeepNorthFood

In this guide, we'll cover the best Deep North food for:

  • Health-focused builds
  • Stamina-focused builds
  • Eitr and magic builds
  • Balanced setups
  • Preparing for Kall Fimbulbringer

You do not need to craft every new recipe. The goal is to identify a few strong foods that fit your build and are practical to maintain throughout your Deep North progression.

Best Health Food

For melee builds, the Deep North introduces several foods that push your maximum Health considerably higher than Ashlands options. The best choices are Meat In Bread, Seal Meat Soup, and Smoked Moose Meat.

Meat In Bread

Meat in Bread

Meat In Bread is one of the best pure Health foods in Valheim.

Recipe:

  • 1 Moose Meat
  • 2 Kale
  • 1 Oat Flour
  • 2 Lingonberries

It provides:

  • 110 Health
  • 37 Stamina
  • 7 HP regeneration
  • 30-minute duration

One craft also gives you two servings, which makes it fairly efficient once you have farming established.

For a conventional melee build, this is one of the easiest foods to recommend for general Deep North exploration and the final boss.

Seal Meat Soup

Seal Meat Soup

Seal Meat Soup provides the same core stats as Meat in Bread:

Recipe:

  • 2 Seal Blubber
  • 2 Kale
  • 2 Ice

It provides:

  • 110 Health
  • 37 Stamina
  • 7 HP regeneration
  • 30-minute duration

Because the stats are identical to Meat in Bread, you don't need to treat one as strictly better than the other. Both are top-tier Health foods.

Smoked Moose Meat

Smoked Moose Meat

Smoked Moose Meat is slightly weaker, but still very strong.

Recipe:

  • 1 Moose Meat
  • 2 Kale

It provides:

  • 105 Health
  • 35 Stamina
  • 25-minute duration

This makes it a useful option while you are still building up a reliable supply of Oats, Lingonberries, or other ingredients needed for the absolute best foods.

Which Health Food Should You Use?

For maximum stats, use Meat in Bread or Seal Meat Soup.

They are effectively interchangeable from a stat perspective, so choose whichever recipe is easier for you to maintain.

Smoked Moose Meat is the best fallback if you want something slightly easier to produce without sacrificing much Health.

For most melee builds, I would eventually pair one of the 110 Health foods with a strong Stamina option rather than stacking three Health foods. Deep North enemies and Kall both require enough Stamina to dodge, reposition, and maintain pressure.

Best Stamina Food

Stamina is extremely important in the Deep North because almost everything you do depends on it. Sprinting through snow, dodging dangerous attacks, climbing terrain, and maintaining melee pressure can drain your Stamina very quickly.

The strongest Stamina-focused options are Pancakes, Oatmeal, and Oat Milk.

Pancakes

Pancakes

Pancakes are one of the best pure Stamina foods available in Valheim 1.0.

Recipe:

  • 1 Oat Milk
  • 2 Oat Flour
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Blueberries

They provide:

  • 39 Health
  • 115 Stamina
  • 5 HP regeneration
  • 30-minute duration

This makes Pancakes an excellent choice for physical builds that already get enough Health from their other food slots. They are especially useful for melee and ranged builds that rely heavily on dodging, sprinting, or repeated attacks.

Oatmeal

Oat Meal

Oatmeal is one of the strongest hybrid foods in the Deep North because it provides both a large amount of Stamina and Eitr.

Recipe:

  • 2 Oats
  • 2 Lingonberries
  • 1 Oat Milk

It provides:

  • 39 Health
  • 115 Stamina
  • 85 Eitr
  • 5 HP regeneration
  • 30-minute duration

This makes Oatmeal particularly valuable for magic and hybrid builds. You lose some Eitr compared to dedicated Eitr foods, but gain the equivalent of a full Stamina food in the same slot.

For pure physical builds, Pancakes are usually the more straightforward choice since the additional Eitr from Oatmeal would go unused.

Oat Milk

Oat Milk

Oat Milk is another strong Stamina-focused option and is slightly weaker than Pancakes in raw stats.

Recipe:

  • 5 Oats
  • 5 Ice

It provides:

  • 37 Health
  • 110 Stamina
  • 5 HP regeneration
  • 25-minute duration

It also serves as an ingredient for both Pancakes and Oatmeal, so you will likely be producing it regardless once you start using Deep North food regularly.

As a standalone food, it is a good alternative when you want a high-Stamina option but do not want to spend the additional ingredients required for Pancakes.

Which Stamina Food Should You Use?

For physical builds, Pancakes are the best general Stamina option.

For magic or hybrid builds, Oatmeal is much more efficient because it gives you both 115 Stamina and 85 Eitr in a single food slot.

Oat Milk works best as an easier alternative or as something you already have available while preparing Pancakes and Oatmeal.

Best Eitr Food

Magic builds get several major food upgrades in the Deep North. The strongest dedicated Eitr options are Fish Soup, Oven Pancake, and Meatballs and Poteitr, all of which can reach 105 Eitr.

Fish Soup

Fish Soup

Fish Soup is one of the best pure Eitr foods available in Valheim 1.0.

Recipe:

  • 3 Raw Fish
  • 2 Kale
  • 2 Ice

It provides:

  • 37 Health
  • 18 Stamina
  • 105 Eitr
  • 5 HP regeneration
  • 30-minute duration

It is one of the strongest general choices for dedicated magic builds.

Oven Pancake

Oven Pancake

Oven Pancake provides the same core stat spread as Fish Soup.

Recipe:

  • 1 Moose Meat
  • 2 Poteitr
  • 2 Lingonberries
  • 2 Oat Flour

It provides:

  • 37 Health
  • 18 Stamina
  • 105 Eitr
  • 30-minute duration

The main difference is the recipe and production method, so which one you use mostly depends on which ingredients are easier for you to maintain.

Meatballs and Poteitr

Meatballs and Poteitr

Meatballs and Poteitr are another strong dedicated Eitr option.

Recipe:

  • 1 Moose Meat
  • 2 Lingonberries
  • 2 Poteitr

They provide:

  • 35 Health
  • 18 Stamina
  • 105 Eitr
  • 25-minute duration

The shorter duration makes them slightly less convenient than Fish Soup or Oven Pancake for long expeditions, but the Eitr value is identical.

Which Eitr Food Should You Use?

For a dedicated mage, Fish Soup and Oven Pancake are the strongest general choices because they combine the maximum 105 Eitr with a 30-minute duration.

Meatballs and Poteitr work perfectly well if their ingredients are easier for you to obtain, but they need to be refreshed slightly more often.

You can also combine one of these foods with Oatmeal. Oatmeal gives less Eitr at 85, but adds 115 Stamina, making it one of the best choices for magic builds that do not want to sacrifice all of their mobility for a larger Eitr pool.

Best Food Combinations

The best food setup depends on what your build actually needs. Deep North food gives you enough strong options that there is very little reason to use the same three foods for every character.

For most builds, combining different food types is better than simply stacking the three foods with the highest Health or Stamina values.

Best Melee Setup

For a conventional melee build, a very strong setup is:

  • Meat In Bread
  • Seal Meat Soup
  • Pancakes

Together, this gives you a large Health pool while still providing plenty of Stamina for attacking, blocking, dodging, and repositioning.

This is one of the safest general setups for difficult Deep North content because you are not sacrificing survivability just to gain more damage opportunities.

If you do not have enough ingredients to consistently maintain both top-tier Health foods, Smoked Moose Meat can replace either one.

Best Stamina and Ranged Setup

For Bow, Crossbow, or other Stamina-heavy builds, you can lean much further into Stamina:

  • Meat In Bread
  • Pancakes
  • Oat Milk

You still retain a strong Health food, but both remaining slots heavily increase your Stamina pool.

This works especially well for builds that spend a lot of time sprinting, repositioning, and repeatedly attacking from range.

The downside is lower maximum Health compared to a melee-focused setup, so you have less room for mistakes.

Best Mage Setup

Dedicated magic builds want as much Eitr as possible without destroying their Stamina economy.

A strong setup is:

  • Fish Soup
  • Meatballs and Poteitr
  • Oatmeal

Fish Soup and Meatballs and Poteitr both provide 105 Eitr, while Oatmeal adds another 85 Eitr alongside 115 Stamina.

This gives you a very large Eitr pool while still leaving enough Stamina to dodge, sprint, and reposition between casts.

Oatmeal is especially valuable here because running three dedicated Eitr foods can leave your physical Stamina pool feeling very restrictive.

Best Hybrid Setup

For builds that regularly switch between melee and magic, one of the strongest combinations is:

  • Meat In Bread
  • Oatmeal
  • Fish Soup

This gives you a strong balance of all three major resources.

Meat In Bread provides your main Health pool, Oatmeal supplies a huge amount of Stamina alongside Eitr, and Fish Soup increases your Eitr enough to comfortably incorporate Staffs into the build.

This is probably one of the most versatile Deep North setups if your character does not fit entirely into either a physical or magic build.

Best Food for Kall Fimbulbringer

For most melee players fighting Kall Fimbulbringer, I would recommend:

Meat In Bread

Seal Meat Soup

Pancakes

Kall is a long fight with a lot of movement, so you want enough Health to survive mistakes while still maintaining enough Stamina to dodge his chain attacks and reposition during the later phases.

Pure Health stacking can leave your Stamina unnecessarily low, while stacking two Stamina foods makes individual mistakes much more dangerous.

Magic builds can instead use:

  • Fish Soup
  • Meatballs and Poteitr
  • Oatmeal

For the complete fight strategy and preparation, refer to our Kall Fimbulbringer Boss Guide.

Which Setup Should You Use?

There is no single best food combination for every character.

Melee builds generally benefit from two Health foods and one Stamina food.

Ranged builds can comfortably sacrifice some Health for additional Stamina.

Magic builds should combine dedicated Eitr food with Oatmeal to avoid having an extremely small Stamina pool.

Hybrid builds benefit the most from foods that provide multiple resources at once.

The important thing is to build your food setup around how your character actually plays rather than simply choosing whichever three foods have the largest individual numbers.
