Balance Combat and Painting the Battlefield

Movement can be incredibly fluid in Splatoon, but it can also feel incredibly clunky if you aren't familiar with how to handle it. Since ink plays such a vital role in traversal, it's important to paint the battlefield in addition to splatting enemies. If you leave the ground dry, you're going to have a rough time.

There's no perfect equation, as different builds and environments will naturally shape the way you play. However, a good rule of thumb is to prepare an escape plan and have ways to cross through and navigate high ground. Ultimately, it's about finding the right balance that works for you.

Constantly Evaluate Your Enemies

Not all enemies appear at once, so it's important to constantly evaluate your environment to keep a pulse on which foes are nearby. Enemies such as Stingers can become a real nuisance if left alone, so keep an eye out and change your target when priority threats appear.

Don't forget, you can always use your Bot Buddy to help with positioning and gain an aerial view of the battlefield. Just remember there is a slightly delay after you call.

Reload Between Firing

Nothing feels worse than running out of ink during a tense moment of combat. A split second can make all the difference, so make it priority to maintain a healthy tank. As long as you've setup a good flow by painting the battlefield, it should be easy enough to keep up.

Utilize Gadgets Frequently

Gadgets are a huge part of your overall DPS and should be used regularly to maximize your output. This becomes especially important during timed raids, as your Weapon alone likely won't keep up. Unless you only need to pick off a weak enemy or two, be ready to spam them on cooldown.

Save Your Showstopper

Unlike Gadgets, your Showstopper should be used more sparingly. When possible, try and save it for the boss fight, or the final encounter of a map. Again, this plays a key role in maximizing DPS during timed raids, and bosses are generally the toughest part. That said, if you're in a pinch, by all means go for it.

Request Help If Needed

Splatoon Raiders has a built-in feature that lets you request help from another player during your own single-player raid. It's a natural part of the game, so don't be ashamed to use it if you're struggling.

Experiment With Different Setups

Different species of Salmonids each come with their own strengths and weaknesses, and it's up to you to exploit them. While you can certainly make anything work with enough effort, it's definitely worth exploring new combinations. After all, you may discover a new favorite build.

Check Gear Between Raids

The Spirhalite Islands are absolutely full of loot, and you'll be constantly acquiring more with each raid. While you may want to jump straight to the next objective, it's a good idea to at least scan what's new. Otherwise, there's a good chance you'll miss out on free power.

Adjust Your Gadget Parts Accordingly

With how the Gadget Part system works, even a single adjustment can change what's possible. After all, you're adding up Slots until you reach the limit, so a one-point shift could make all the difference.

Whenever you reconfigure your setup, take a second to see what new combinations fit together. The same rings true when you increase you Gadget Part Slots.

Lastly, keep a close eye on the different rarity tiers of the same type of Gadget Part effect. While the higher rarity Gadget Parts are a better bang for your buck, if you happen to have spare Slots available, then it can be worth using the stronger, less cost-efficient part.

Prioritize Damage Upgrades

I know we've mentioned it twice already, but having a strong DPS output is incredibly important for timed raids. So given that fact, it should come as no surprise that we recommend prioritizing Damage with your Skill Points.

Focusing on Gadget Part Slots is a great first choice as it increases the Part combinations you can put together. Afterwards, you can pick between Weapon Damage or Gadget Damage.

If you're really having a tough time surviving, you can consider opting for some HP instead. However, with enough practice, you'll often find that careful movement can solve most survivability issues.

Check In With Big Man

It's easy to get distracted going from raid to raid, but remember to take a moment to visit Big Man at the Hoard. All of your collection progress will help you to gradually unlock Spirhalite Shard rewards. Early on, this can be a huge help towards unlocking Gadgets and/or other Hideout Ship Facilities.
