Lesser Salmonids

Lesser Salmonids are the most basic of the bunch and tend to be rather weak on their own. However, they tend to horde together, meaning they can quickly overwhelm you if you're not prepared.

Chum

salmonid chum

Field Notes

  • Chum have frying pans, and they frequently appear in groups.
  • When they smell a target, they approach it and attack it with their frying pans.
  • They are exemplary of fearless Lesser Salmonids and are the most numerous and common enemy on the Spirhalite Islands.

Battle Tips

  • These enemies are easily defeated.
  • The frying-pain attacks are fairly strong, so don't let your guard down.

Tong Chum

salmonid tong chum

Field Notes

  • They wield their tongs proudly.
  • They march toward their target and attack with the tongs.

Battle Tips

  • They've got some reach with those tongs, so be sure to keep your distance when fighting them.
  • Like your basic Chum, they are easily defeated.

Spring Chum

salmonid spring chum

Field Notes

  • Spring Chum bounce...constantly.
  • They bounce into their targets, hitting them with the spikes on the springs.

Battle Tips

  • Watch their movements and time your attacks wisely.
  • Keep your distance when fighting, as they can be squirrelly at close range.

Small Fry

salmonid small fry

Field Notes

  • What they lack in size, they make up for in speed.
  • They approach their targets in schools and attack with spoons.

Battle Tips

  • They don't have much health, so entire groups can sometimes be taken out by attacks that have a large area of effect.

Cohock

salmonid cohock

Field Notes

  • They have size and strength, but they move slowly.
  • They approach their targets boldly, repeatedly taking strong swings with their frying pans.

Battle Tips

  • They have a lot of health, so it might take a steady stream of attacks to bring them down. Be tenacious!
  • Hits from their frying pans can send you flying, so close proximity to these enemies can be dangerous.

Tong Cohock

salmonid tong cohock

Field Notes

  • They wield large tongs with ease.
  • They clobber targets with those tongs.

Battle Tips

  • Keep your distance when fighting these enemies, as their tongs have a long reach.
  • Like normal Cohocks, they have a lot of health, so a barrage of attacks might be required to take them down.

Bomb Cohock

salmonid bomb cohock

Field Notes

  • They wear thick eyeglasses and carry spiky bombs.
  • They throw these time bombs at their targets.

Battle Tips

  • They often lend support to their friends, throwing their bombs from behind schools of Salmonids.
  • Defeat them quickly if you see them. These bombs hurt.
  • The bombs are too hard to break, so just keep your distance and avoid the blast.

Spinook

salmonid spinook

Field Notes

  • They float in the air with a sprinkler attached to them.
  • They frantically flap their pectoral fins to "swim" toward their target while splattering ink around.

Battle Tips

  • They're slow and easy to defeat.
  • Deal with Spinooks quickly, or you might get bogged down in their ink.
  • When defeated, they spray ink around themselves.

Sparky

salmonid sparky

Field Notes

  • They run around making noise with fuses on their heads.
  • They chase after their targets and self-destruct after swelling to a large size.

Battle Tips

  • Defeat them quickly before they self-destruct.
  • When defeated, they explode, damaging nearby Salmonids.
  • If you can't defeat them quickly, at least stay out of range of their explosions.

Boss Salmonids

Boss Salmonids are much tougher than their Lesser counterparts, and come with unique strengths and weaknesses to overcome. You may need to pull out the right tool for the job, or at least take extra precautions when one comes in sight.

Salty Tongue

salmonid salty tongue

Field Notes

  • A large Salmonid that sticks out its tongue as it moves.
  • It flaps its fins wildly as it approaches its target and then stretches out its neck and bites.

Battle Tips

  • It has a lot of health, so dodge its bites and press the attack.
  • Its bite attack does a lot of damage, so watch out for it.
  • It bites immediately after extending its neck, so pay attention to its movements and dodge left or right.

Salivator

salmonids salivator

Field Notes

  • Known for the nonstop flapping of its large fins. Also known for its drooling.
  • It launches a bag full of drool at its target, creating a whirlwind.

Battle Tips

  • They can be difficult to hit because they're airborne.
  • It's easier to hit Salivators by gaining a height advantage.
  • Attack a bag and ride the updraft to gain height.

Scrapper

salmonid scrapper

Field Notes

  • They skillfully maneuver vehicles that have excellent turning and shields on the front.
  • They charge toward their target while protecting their bodies with the shield.

Battle Tips

  • Repeated attacks will break its shield, and then it will stop moving.
  • Once it stops moving, get behind it and attack the pilot.
  • If you have any attacks that go through shields, you can defeat them without getting behind them.

Stinger

salmonid stinger

Field Notes

  • These tall Salmonids stand seven pots high.
  • They spray powerful ink at their targets that pierces through obstacles even from a distance.

Battle Tips

  • You can defeat them by having them fall into the bottom stove when you've destroyed all the pots.
  • A big burst from a weapon or gadget can destroy all the pots at once.
  • They will always target you from a distance, so you should defeat them quickly when you spot them.

Steelhead

salmonid steelhead

Field Notes

  • Their bodies are large and covered in hard scales.
  • They inflate bombs above their heads and throw them at their targets.

Battle Tips

  • While Steelheads are building up energy in their bombs, attack the bombs.
  • When defeated, Steelheads explode, dealing heavy damage to nearby Salmonids.
  • It takes time, but you can defeat them by continuously attacking their hard bodies.

Big Shot

salmonid big shot

Field Notes

  • Armed with a cannonball, it hops around on the bouncy materials strapped beneath it.
  • It slams the cannonball into the ground, generating shock waves.

Battle Tips

  • Avoid shock waves by jumping over them.
  • It's easier to land attacks while the cannonball attack is winding up, so try to attack aggressively during that windup period.
  • Defeating it generates a shock wave that damages surrounding Salmonids.

Fish Stick

salmonid fish stick

Field Notes

  • These battle units are made of Smallfry troops that fly around carrying giant stakes.
  • The stakes pierce into the ground, and the Smallfry spread ink as they fly around above them.

Battle Tips

  • Defeat all the Smallfry.
  • If you paint the stakes with ink and climb them, it's easier to hit the Smallfry from up close.
  • If you attack the propellers at the bottom of the stakes, they will lower, making it easier to target the Smallfry.

Steel Eel

salmonid steel eel

Field Notes

  • They pilot extremely long machines made up of a larger number of connected ink-spraying devices.
  • With their metal-headed rides, they endlessly chase after their targets.

Battle Tips

  • The heads of Steel Eels' rides aren't damaged by attacks.
  • You can defeat them by attacking the operators at the very back.
  • Skillfully draw in Steel Eels and go around behind them to defeat them.

Slammin' Lid

salmonid slammin' lid

Field Notes

  • A Salmonid sits in a saucer-shaped craft with a force field deployed beneath it.
  • They summon Salmonids from the opening underneath the craft.
  • When a target enters the force field, the craft will crash down and attempt to crush it.

Battle Tips

  • Take them out quickly by attacking the Salmonid that is piloting the craft.
  • Dodge the crashing craft and get on top of it.
  • Use the crashing craft to crush other Salmonids.

Flyfish

salmonid flyfish

Field Notes

  • They hover and fly about and are equipped with missile launchers on each of their shoulders.
  • Each launcher can fire three missiles, which are always launched from a distance.

Battle Tips

  • You can defeat them by attacking the pilot in the cockpit.
  • The missile launchers are immune to attacks, so aim for the pilot from either the front or the back.
  • They will always target you from a distance. It's better to defeat them quickly when you spot them.

Smoker

salmonid smoker

Field Notes

  • It has a slender body and carries a device on its back that emits smoke.
  • It blows the smoke overhead toward the target from a distance.

Battle Tips

  • They have low health and are easily defeated.
  • The smoke emitted by the Smoker makes other Salmonids tougher.
  • Since the smoke hardens other Salmonids, prioritize defeating Smokes when you find them.

Maws

salmonid maws

Field Notes

  • They have large bodies, but they usually conceal themselves in ink.
  • They will suddenly breach out of the ink under their targets.
  • The red bobbers that float in the ink indicate where their next attack will occur.

Battle Tips

  • Attack them as they reveal themselves while breaching.
  • Their abdomens are protected by hard armor, but their backs are vulnerable, so try to attack them from behind.
  • Note which way the bobber is facing before a breach. Use that information to predict which way the Maws will be facing when it reveals itself.

Drizzler

salmonid drizzler

Field Notes

  • They fly about clad in hard armor resembling umbrellas.
  • They fire shells at their target that rain ink when they burst.

Battle Tips

  • You can defeat them by attacking them directly immediately after they fire shots.
  • If you successfully return a shot and hit a Drizzler, you can defeat them with one hit, armor and all.
  • If will take time, but you can defeat them by continually attacking their tough armor.

Flipper-Flopper

salmonid flipper-flopper

Field Notes

  • They leap high into the air, breaching from the depths of the ink, and then quickly dive back in.
  • They emit a ring of ink when breaching, and then they dive into it to make a splash.

Battle Tips

  • When the inside of its ring is repainted with ink, the Flipper-Flopper crashes to the ground.
  • A Flipper-Flopper that has crashed will be unable to move for a short time, so attack it aggressively during that window.
  • It can still be damaged while it's exposed before it dives.

Goldie

salmonid goldie

Field Notes

  • They are extremely rare Salmonids.
  • They do not attack, and instead run away after strolling around for a while.

Battle Tips

  • They stroll around with a lot of health, so attack as you chase after them.
  • You'll get a lot of Spirhalite Shards when you defeat them.
  • You'll want to prioritize defeating Goldies, so take care not to get surrounded by other Salmonids.

Seasoned Salmonids

Seasoned Salmonids are the deadliest of the bunch, and are easily identified by their extra "salty" exterior (the saltier, the deadlier). Be sure to come prepared with your best Gadgets!

Thick-Cut Salty Tongue

salmonid thick-cut salty tongue

Field Notes

  • A giant Salty Tongue that has reached peak lung capacity through Spirhalite.
  • After retracting its neck, it does not bite but instead fires a sonic laser in a straight line using its loud voice.

Battle Tips

  • It has very high health, so attack it patiently.
  • The thick sonic laser is powerful and can deal massive damage upon impact.
  • It doesn't have much range of motion in its neck, so quick movement can help you dodge its attacks.

Minced Scrapper

salmonid minced scrapper

Field Notes

  • The giant Scrapper has reached peak defensive power through Spirhalite.
  • Equipped with a giant roller spinning at high speed, it has become an impenetrable fortress of offense and defense.
  • Its shield is tougher than that of a normal Scrapper, and it recovers from damage more quickly.

Battle Tips

  • Continuously attacking their rollers or shields will disable them, stopping them in their tracks.
  • They won't stop for long though, so immediately circle around behind them and attack the pilot.
  • You can defeat them without having to get behind them if you can attack in a way that pierces the shield.

Big-Stack Stinger

salmonid big-stack stinger

Field Notes

  • A giant Stinger that has reached peak spraying power through Spirhalite.
  • It towers as if to pierce the heavens with many pots stacked on top of each other.
  • It sprays ink from three places: its main body and two pots.

Battle Tips

  • Knock away all the pots to drop the pilot down to the flame.
  • Its powerful ink spray deals massive damage.
  • It gets easier to fight when you destroy the pots that spray ink.

Refill Steelhead

salmonid refill steelhead

Field Notes

  • A giant Steelhead that has reached peak explosive power through Spirhalite.
  • It inflates three plastic bags, creating bombs bigger than those of a normal Steelhead.
  • Its bombs bounce forward and explode three times.

Battle Tips

  • Attack the bomb while it's charging its energy.
  • The bomb inflates as it moves its head, so watch its movement and aim accordingly.
  • When inflating bombs, it first lowers its head and then raises it.

Jumbo Big Shot

salmonid jumbo big shot

Field Notes

  • A giant Big Shot that has reached peak shock power through Spirhalite.
  • Despite weighing five times as much as Big Shot, it can jump higher than the smaller Salmonid can.
  • It slams a cannonball down to create three shock waves.

Battle Tips

  • It moves in large jumps, making it a difficult target to hit.
  • It's easier to land attacks while the cannonball is slammed down, so try to attack aggressively during that windup period.
  • There are short gaps between shock waves, so try to time your jumps to dodge them.

Long-Line Steel Eel

salmonid long-line steel eel

Field Notes

  • A giant Steel Eel that has reached peak tracking power through Spirhalite.
  • With faster movement speed than a Steel Eel, along with incredible length, it will unceasingly chase its target.

Battle Tips

  • You can defeat it by attacking the pilot in the rear.
  • Focus on the rear while fighting your way to it.
  • Be careful not to zigzag too much, as the pilot might become hidden from view by the metal body.

Extra-Crispy Flyfish

salmonid extra-crispy flyfish

Field Notes

  • A giant Flyfish that has reached peak blasting power through Spirhalite.
  • A wide-area tornado forms at the impact site of its missiles.
  • The tornado not only creates a powerful blast but also covers the nearby area with ink.

Battle Tips

  • Attack the pilot in the cockpit to defeat it.
  • The tornado is not only powerful but its ink coverage also restricts movement.
  • Take it down as quickly as possible before you run out of escape routes and aren't able to move.

Big-Haul Maws

salmonid big-haul maws

Field Notes

  • A giant Maws that has reached peak ink-breaching power through Spirhalite.
  • It breaches up through the ink in such a wide area that it's difficult to avoid, and it deals high damage to its targets.
  • It wields a giant bobber proportionate in size to its body.

Battle Tips

  • Attack as it reveals itself and breaches the ink.
  • Its tummy is protected by tough armor, but its back is defenseless, so aim for that.
  • Note which way the bobber is facing before a breach. Use that information and get in place to attack its back during a breach.

Strong-Arms

salmonid strong-arms

Field Notes

  • A Salmonid of unknown origin with four fins that are abnormally large.
  • It wields four weapons, one in each fin. It switches weapons based on distance to its target.

Battle Tips

  • Its body is protected by tough armor, so attack the four fins, which are defenseless.
  • When a fin takes enough damage, it shrinks and does not go back to its large size.
