RuneScape Dragonwilds officially leaves Early Access on September 15, 2026. The full release arrives on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
Version 1.0 introduces the Scorned Wilderness Raid, the final battle against Kuldra and the Runite equipment tier. Combat is also receiving substantial changes, including improved blocking, more animation-cancelling options, Visceral Attacks, Wands and RuneScape’s classic Special Attack bar.
All previous Early Access content will remain available, including Fellhollow, Dowdun Reach and Umbral Sands.
The Scorned Wilderness Raid
The Scorned Wilderness is the centrepiece of the 1.0 update. Unlike previous regional expansions, it is structured around Dragonwilds’ first Raid rather than another large area designed for open exploration.
Fighting Through the Scorned Wilderness
Wild Anima and the power of Black Dragons have torn the Scorned Wilderness apart, leaving players to travel between floating islands as they work their way towards Kuldra.
The Raid can be attempted alone or alongside other players. Reaching the final boss requires fighting through enemy onslaughts, survival challenges and unique combat encounters. Kuldra will also attack players as they cross the Wilderness, making the journey to her part of the encounter.
Most of the Raid’s mechanics are being kept a secret until launch.
Kuldra, the God-Eater
Queen Kuldra is a five headed Black Dragon known as the God Eater. She has remained the main threat throughout the Early Access storyline, with each defeated Dragon Lord bringing players closer to confronting her.
Each of Kuldra’s heads channels powers associated with Gielinor’s dragons. Players familiar with RuneScape’s previous dragon encounters may recognize some of her attacks, although the full mechanics of the fight have not been revealed.
Defeating Kuldra completes the main storyline that began when Dragonwilds entered Early Access.
Kuldra’s Rewards
Defeating Kuldra rewards players with the newest version of the Dragon Shield and a cape connected to the victory. The cape’s official name has not yet been revealed.
Kuldra’s announced reward pool also includes iconic Dragon equipment, with the Dragon Scimitar and Dragon Crossbow already confirmed.
Additional items will appear on Kuldra’s Rare Drop Table, but those rewards are being kept a secret until the Raid becomes available.
The Runite Equipment Tier
The Scorned Wilderness adds the Runite Tier, extending the existing melee, ranged and magic gear progression.
Players will be able to gather new resources and craft:
Rune Armour
Black Dragonhide gear
Ancestral Robes
Rune Armour follows Adamant Armour, Black Dragonhide follows Red Dragonhide, and Ancestral Robes become the next major magic set after Infinity Robes.
Combat Changes
Version 1.0 continues Jagex’s work on making combat feel faster and more responsive.
Faster Blocking
The blocking animation will be shortened and its active window will begin earlier. This will make it easier to defend against incoming attacks without the block feeling delayed.
The interface will also show how much damage was mitigated by a successful block.
Jagex is improving how attacks are communicated between the server and client. These changes are intended to reduce phantom hits from enemies that have already been defeated and make on screen damage more consistent with what is happening during combat.
Attacking While Sprinting
Players will be able to attack while sprinting, allowing them to begin a combo without stopping first.
This gives melee characters a cleaner way to close the distance on an enemy and prevents combat from feeling disconnected from normal movement.
Animation Cancelling
More combat actions can be cancelled in 1.0.
Players will be able to interrupt Skill Spells and Magic Attacks by blocking or dodging. Bow and spell attacks will also receive earlier exit points, making it easier to react when an enemy attacks during a longer animation.
Stamina costs are being rebalanced across different weapons and shields, although the final values have not been published.
Enchant Weapon and Spectral Arrows will last longer, while Tempest Shield and Snare will have shorter cooldowns.
Parrying and Visceral Attacks
A successful parry will restore 50% of the player’s maximum Stamina.
It will also create an opportunity to perform one cinematic Visceral Attack against the enemy. This allows players to recover a large amount of Stamina and immediately respond with a powerful counterattack.
The Visceral Attack uses a special camera adjustment to make the hit easier to recognize.
New Enemy Variations
New enemy variations are being added across Brynmoor, Ghornfell, Fellhollow and Dowdun Reach.
Their attacks can apply effects such as Poison, Shock and Wither Rot, adding more variety to areas that returning players may already know well.
Dire Wolf attacks are also being shortened so they no longer continue catching players who are already sprinting away.
Special Attacks and Wands
The Special Attack Bar
Weapon Special Attacks are moving onto a separate rechargeable resource.
Using a Special Attack consumes part of the new bar, which gradually refills over time. Players will need to decide whether to spend it immediately or save it for a more dangerous enemy.
Separating Special Attacks from normal Stamina allows them to deal more damage without being used repeatedly. Titan’s Wrath and the Greatsword Special are two of the abilities being strengthened under the new system.
Their Stamina costs will also be reduced because the Special Attack bar now controls how frequently they can be activated.
Wands
Wands are a new magic weapon type arriving in 1.0.
They offer a faster and more mobile alternative to Staves, trading some raw damage for greater freedom of movement. Staves remain the heavier option for dealing damage from range, while Wands support a quicker fighting style.
Wands still interact with Dragonwilds’ elemental effects. Air, Fire and Water magic can contribute to Knockdown, Burn and Slow buildup.
Console Release and Crossplay
Dragonwilds launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the PC full release.
Crossplay is confirmed across the supported platforms, allowing PC and console players to explore Ashenfall together.
The game will also become available through the Jagex Launcher on September 15. This is treated as a separate PC version, so owning Dragonwilds on Steam will not automatically provide access through the Jagex Launcher.
Improved Controller Combat
Camera relative aiming will become the default controller setting.
Attacks and spells will travel towards the camera’s direction instead of following the direction the character model is facing. This provides more direct control when aiming ranged weapons or magic.
The option remains configurable. Players who have already selected a preferred aiming method will keep their existing setting.
Camera shake and hit feedback are also receiving further adjustments, with camera shake remaining optional.
The End of the Kuldra Saga
Version 1.0 concludes the Kuldra Saga with the Scorned Wilderness Raid and Kuldra’s defeat.
The story has developed across each Early Access expansion, introducing new Dragon Lords, characters and pieces of Ashenfall’s history. Kuldra’s defeat closes that storyline, but it does not mark the end of Dragonwilds.
Jagex plans to continue expanding the game through additional sagas, skills, quests, regions, bosses, enemies and rewards.
