Overview

Yubi, No. 21 Swordfighter Puppet is an optional boss found in the Training Grounds Depths of the Mandate Encampment. She is closely tied to the Secrets of the Baishan Sect Tale and represents the final major encounter of that questline.

Yubi

Yubi fights with the Baishan Stormswords, combining extremely fast dual-wield attacks with Wind and Lightning techniques. Her moveset is considerably more complex than most bosses in the Mandate Encampment because many of her attacks have delayed follow-ups, spectral copies, long-range thrusts, and additional elemental effects layered on top.

She only has one phase, but her moveset becomes considerably more dangerous later in the fight when the arena fills with wind, mist, and Lightning pressure.

This guide was written and tested on Hellwalker difficulty.

Important: If you are completing Secrets of the Baishan Sect, make sure the Tale is active and you have examined Bi Taotao's body before defeating Yubi. Otherwise, you can miss the Broken Vessel and the quest completion reward.

Rich Text

Fast Dual-Wield Combos

Yubi's basic offense is built around extremely fast dual-sword strings.

Unlike some of the slower bosses in this area, she rarely gives you much time between attacks. Her combos often contain several quick slashes before transitioning into a stronger finisher.

Dual Combos

The most important thing to watch is the Blue Flash that appears during certain sequences.

Several of Yubi's major combos end with a Blue attack, and successfully parrying these finishers is one of the best ways to damage her Sha-Chi.

Do not try to attack between every individual slash.

Let the string develop, watch for the Blue finisher, then punish once you have successfully countered it.

Lightning Thrust

One of Yubi's most recognizable attacks is her Lightning Thrust.

She creates a bright line of Lightning before rapidly launching herself across a large portion of the arena. The attack covers far more distance than a normal sword thrust, so simply backing away is usually not enough.

Either parry the thrust if you are comfortable with the timing or dodge sideways.

The important thing is to avoid retreating in a straight line. She can cross enough distance that you will often still get caught.

Spectral Copies

Yubi can create a teal spectral duplicate of herself during several attack sequences.

This is one of the main reasons her fight can initially feel so difficult.

Spectral Copies

When the copy appears, you effectively need to deal with the same attack twice in quick succession. The second strike usually follows shortly after the first, meaning an early counterattack can get you hit immediately.

The safest response is to stay defensive until both attacks have finished.

Do not automatically retaliate after dealing with the real Yubi's first strike. Watch the spectral copy and wait until the entire sequence is over.

If the timing feels inconsistent, dodging the whole sequence is often safer than trying to Perfect Parry both hits.

Spinning Wind Attacks

Yubi has several spinning attacks that combine her Stormswords with wind effects.

These can cover a large area around her and often transition directly into another attack.

One particularly important version finishes with a Red attack, giving you a reliable counter opportunity once you recognize the sequence.

Do not walk into the spin just because the initial swings look finished.

Wait for the actual Red finisher before committing to your punish.

Red Attacks

Yubi has several Red attacks, and unlike some slower bosses, they can appear very suddenly.

Some come after her spinning sequences, while another can occur shortly after she jumps toward or onto the higher parts of the arena.

Red attack

This makes it important to stay ready even when she briefly creates distance.

Do not treat every disengage as a healing opportunity.

Yubi can re-enter the fight almost immediately.

Wind and Mist Pressure

Later in the fight, Yubi can begin filling the arena with teal mist and wind effects.

This makes her movement much harder to track and creates one of the most visually chaotic parts of the encounter.

When the mist appears, expect Yubi to dash through it toward you.

Do not immediately chase her into the fog.

Hold your position, watch for the movement cue, and prepare to defend as she emerges.

Trying to attack blindly through the mist usually results in getting caught by her dash or a follow-up combo.

Lightning Storm

The most dangerous part of the fight begins when Yubi creates a larger Lightning storm around the arena.

During this sequence, you need to deal with Yubi's normal pressure while additional Lightning attacks begin striking the battlefield.

Lightning Storm

Watch the ground underneath you for gold circles, which indicate incoming Lightning.

Keep moving whenever these indicators appear.

The arena edges can also become especially dangerous during the storm because Lightning pressure can build Paralysis, so staying closer to the central area generally gives you more room to react.

This is not the time to greed for damage.

Survive the environmental pressure first, then return to Yubi once the immediate Lightning strikes have finished.

Lightning After Spinning Attacks

Some of Yubi's spinning attacks can also be followed by Lightning AoE.

This makes the normal punish window much more dangerous than it appears.

Even if you successfully avoid the spin, do not immediately run toward her until you know whether the additional Lightning is coming.

This is one of the main ways Yubi punishes players who attack too early.

Sha-Chi Pressure

Despite the amount of visual chaos in the fight, Yubi's Sha-Chi is very manageable if you consistently hit her counter opportunities.

Her Blue finishers are particularly important.

Successfully parrying them can remove a significant part of her Sha-Chi, and once you recognize her main combo routes, these counters become much more predictable.

Because of this, the fight becomes considerably easier if you focus on countering her finishers instead of trying to interrupt her normal attacks.

  • Let her attack.
  • Defend cleanly.
  • Counter the Flash.
  • Then punish.

General Strategy

Yubi is a boss that rewards pattern recognition more than aggression.

Her normal combos are fast, but many of them follow consistent routes into Blue or Red finishers.

Your biggest priority should be learning where those finishers appear.

  • Against her spectral copies, do not counterattack until both strikes have finished.
  • Against her Lightning Thrust, dodge sideways rather than retreating.
  • During the mist sequence, wait for her to emerge instead of chasing her.

Once the Lightning storm begins, shift your attention toward positioning and arena awareness. Avoid the gold circles, stay away from dangerous edges, and do not let environmental pressure force you into panic blocking.

Yubi looks much more chaotic than she actually is. Once you separate the fight into normal strings, spectral follow-ups, and elemental pressure, her moveset becomes much easier to understand.
