Death Boss Guide – Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

Updated on Oct 22, 2026

Overview

Death’s boss fight in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse tests your ability to recognize attack patterns and respond with the right defensive move. Crouching avoids his regular scythe slashes, platforming helps you escape his beam attacks, and carefully timed Holy Light protects you from incoming projectiles.

The fight becomes more aggressive as his health falls, introducing follow-up swings and a powerful slash after he teleports. Keep your attacks short so you can react to these changes.

Special thanks to Gaming With Josie for the strategies used in this guide.

Avoid the Green Hand Attack and Crouch Under Scythe Swings

Watch Death’s hand closely. When his finger glows green, move or slide away immediately. An explosion follows from his hand, so create enough distance to clear the attack before returning to deal damage.

His early scythe attacks require a different response. Wait for the swing and crouch beneath the slash. This also works against the downward scythe attack he introduces during the opening portion of the fight.

Land a few hits between attacks, then prepare to defend again. Avoid committing to a long combo when his hand starts glowing or his scythe begins moving.

Use the Platforms to Avoid Crossing Beams

When Death retreats and starts sending beams across the arena, focus on movement. Jump onto the platforms and reposition between the left and right sides to avoid the crossing attacks.

Use the gaps between explosions to move to the next platform, gradually working your way toward the upper platform. Watch where each beam crosses your route before committing to the next jump.

The early sequence finishes with a horizontal beam, but later versions last longer and add more attacks. Reaching the top platform does not mean the sequence is finished. Continue watching for additional beams before dropping back to the ground.

During the longer sequence late in the fight, keep adjusting your position on the upper platforms. A jump followed by a dash can help you reach a safe gap when you need extra movement.

Time Holy Light Against Incoming Projectiles

As the fight progresses, Death adds an attack that sends small projectiles toward you. Activate Holy Light just before they reach you to protect yourself from the incoming hit.

Watch their approach and time the activation around their arrival. This attack returns later, so be ready to use the same response whenever it appears.

After the projectiles pass and Death comes back down, resume attacking while watching for his next scythe swing.

Watch for Double Slashes and Teleport Attacks

During the second phase, Death can follow his usual scythe slash with a spin and another swing. Crouch beneath both attacks, and wait for the follow-up to finish before standing to attack.

His large spinning scythe attack needs a different response. Watch where the large scythe moves: Death teleports to it before unleashing a powerful slash. Once he reappears, jump and dash toward him over the slash.

You can also attack the smaller spinning blades to destroy them. Clear these when you have an opening, while continuing to watch Death’s movements.

These attacks become mixed with the green hand explosion, projectile waves, and longer beam sequences. Respond to each tell, take a few safe hits between attacks, and keep following the same defensive pattern until his remaining health is gone.
