Welcome to the Earth Spike build for Season 12 of Diablo 4!

  • This guide is designed to help you start in Torment difficulty without any problems and scale all the way to the highest difficulty. As always, enjoy it and have fun!

IMPORTANT:

  • Bloodied items will be under testing during the season, and I’ll be adding them as I try them out. For now, good options are attack speed, crit chance, and movement speed

  • Wariness will help us take less damage from Elites, making it perfect for lasting longer in battle
  • Scythe Talons will help us gain more Lucky Hit chance to activate our XAN rune, and it also grants 15% Critical Strike Chance
  • Avian Wrath is the Druid’s universal boon and a mandatory multiplier for maximizing damage
  • Bolster helps us with defense, but you can also replace it with Calamity if you want Petrify to last longer
  • Finally, we will use Obsidian Slam, since every 6 casts of Earth Spike we will deal Overpower damage

STARTER

The important aspects for the starter version are the following:

  • The Seismic-shift Aspect increases the damage of Earth Spike and also increases the number of spikes we cast, making it mandatory for this build
  • Crashstone Aspect is a key damage aspect, since Earth Spike is an Earth skill
  • Aspect of Adaptability increases the damage of our Basic Skills depending on how much resource we have. In our case, that resource is Spirit. That’s why we use a Maximum Resource affix on our totem
  • The Rapid Aspect increases our Attack Speed, which is extremely useful in the early stages
  • Aspect of the Moonrise will grant us more Attack Speed, increased damage to our Basic Skills, and additional Movement Speed
  • Aspect of Natural Balance has a special use, since it activates after using our Basic Skill, Storm Strike. Once activated, our Earth skills gain increased Critical Strike Damage, in this case Earth Spike

Skill Tree

  • Earth Spike will be our main skill for dealing direct damage, and Storm Strike complements it thanks to the Aspect of Natural Balance
  • Heart of the Wild is important so we can take better advantage of Aspect of Adaptability
  • We’ll need several defensive skills, some that also buff our damage, like Debilitating Roar, and others that provide pure defense, such as Earthen Bulwark
  • Our Ultimate (Petrify) is key because it provides crowd control (CC) and also increases our Critical Strike Damage
  • Our Key Passive will be Earthen Might, which empowers our critical strikes by granting increased damage
  • Poison Creeper is key for poisoning enemies, allowing us to fully take advantage of all the benefits tied to poison, such as the Envenom passive and the Heightened Malice

Paragon Board

  • We’ll start with Tectonic, which lets us deal increased damage to enemies that are under Crowd Control, and also empowers our Earth skills with additional Critical Strike Damage
  • The Heightened Malice node increases our damage against poisoned enemies, while the Spirit glyph grants us extra damage when we land Critical Strikes, and also boosts the damage of those critical hits even further
  • Earthen Devastation is key for any Earth build, since it increases our damage. In addition, the Earth and Sky glyph also empowers Nature Magic skills, such as Earth Spike
  • Up to this point, this Paragon setup works well. After that, you should transition into a stronger version, such as Grizzly Rage, so you can fully take advantage of all the Paragon nodes and their glyphs.

Mercenary

  • Raheir is usually the safest option for the average player, since he gives us 15% more armor and helps us survive longer in battle.
  • Varyana helps us pull mobs together, which is optimal for Pulverize, since our AoE damage isn’t the best. If you're lacking attack speed, use Bloodthirst.

How it Plays

ROCK SPIKES

  • We stack the Quickshift passive up to 6, which is the limit, by alternating between our Claw and Earth Spike skills
  • After this, we can activate Grizzly Rage and start the party
  • Use Earthen Bulwark and Debilitating Roar in instances where you’re more cornered or when mobs are grouped together
  • Cast Earth Spike to shred through the Sanctuary

How it Works

ROCK SPIKES

  • This build is very easy to understand, since the core mechanic is quite similar across all Earth skills like Boulder, Pulverize, and Landslide
  • Our key item will be Vasily's Prayer. With it, Earth Spike gains the Werebear skill tag, which allows us to use it alongside our Ultimate, Grizzly Rage
  • This is where key aspects come into play to boost our damage, such as Aspect of the Rampaging Werebeast and Aspect of the Rabid Beast. Additionally, other aspects increase the damage of our Basic Skill, Earth Spike, like Aspect of Adaptability, Seismic-shift Aspect, and Crashstone Aspect
  • Shard of Verathiel plays an important role, as it makes our Basic Skill cost resources but dramatically increases its DPS
  • For defenses, we’ll use Temerity generate a barrier. This is key to surviving longer in battles. It’s simple—you just need a Life on Hit affix on your gloves, as shown in the guide, and you’ll be able to constantly regenerate a barrier, since Temerity converts Life Leech into a barrier
  • All of this together makes the build function correctly. It’s the foundation for you to enjoy it and understand how it works.
