Retribution Thorns Leveling

The Blessed Shield Paladin Leveling Build Guide teaches you about Gear, Skills, Paragon, Playstyle & Seasonal Mechanics in Diablo 4 Season 13.

Retaliate with Retribution! Throw Shields at your enemies that deal devastating damage. This build is super easy to pick up and has a clear progression. The core of this build is Blessed Shield with the Shield of Retribution upgrade to transform it into a Juggernaut Skill. It then pulses out damage based on your Thorns around it.

We use Clash with Enhanced Clash and Defiance Aura to greatly increase our Thorns damage.

This build transitions very well into the Retribution Thorns.

• Use Clash
• • Generate Faith.
  • Generate Resolve for Juggernaut.
  • Grant you Thorns every 6 seconds.
• Use Fanaticism Aura to Weaken enemies.
• Use Defiance Aura to deal Thorns damage and become Unstoppable.
• Use Rally to generate Faith and get more Movement Speed.
• Use Falling Star for mobility and to apply Vulnerable/Weaken.
• Spam Blessed Shield as much as possible.
• • Blessed ShieldShield of Retribution moves in a straight line. Try to kite enemies along its path.

Core Mechanics

Blessed ShieldShield of Retribution is not only a fantastic build in the endgame, but it's also one of the strongest leveling builds.

The main idea behind the build is that Shield of Retribution pulses our Thorns as it travels. Having our damage be based on Thorns, instead of our Weapon Damage, is absurdly overpowered while leveling. Our Weapon Damage, which the game is balanced around, is very low while leveling. On the other hand, we can get most of our sources of Thorns online while leveling.

Sadly we will have to play Shield of Justice until level 32, when we finally unlock Shield of Retribution.
