Build Overview

The Whirlwind Barbarian is insanely strong and fast. This planner will teach you how to put together all the gear, skills and paragon boards for this iconic skill. This planner will also help you solve all your Fury Management issues, explain aspects that may be a little confusing and cover what weapons to set your skills to. There are several variations in the planner so read through.

The Barbarians this season will all be running some variation of the Melted Heart of Selig + Endurant Faith or Endurant Faith. While this is not a requirement it does make very tanky. The Melted Heart of Selig was changed, so you will no longer be "Immortal", but it is still the best defensive option. Each planner will have variants without it, but this will be your end-game version you're striving for.

Please read through the How it works section of the planner and if you have further questions you can join me live on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok and X. If you have questions while I'm not live, join Discord. We have a team and community ready to answer all your questions! You can also check out Cliptis.com for a collection of all my How-To guides.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Insanely Tanky
  • Fun to Play
  • Very Mobile
  • Can be gear dependant

Build Variants

WARNING: Running Melted Heart of Selig requires very specific set ups. What you will need to do:

  • Remove all Maximum Life from your gear. You must have ZERO.
  • Remove all Maximum Life from your Paragon Board except the first two starter nodes. You must have ZERO.
  • No Maximum Life on any Charms or Seals.
  • Endurant Faith charm is required to run the Melted Heart of Selig.
    • You can use Endurant Faith as a Mythic Quality item and it will add more survivability

If you don't meet these three requirements this variant will not work and you will die. Please use the Mythic Variant until you have everything set up.

Technique

When choosing your Barbarian Weapon Expertise Technique, you do not have to be using the weapon of the Weapon Expertise Technique you chose.

This is only an example to help you understand how Expertise works. Refer to the Arsenal Selection for this builds set up:

  • Expertise chosen is Polearm - 15%(x) increased Lucky Hit Chance and you deal 15(x) increased damage while healthy
  • Arsenal Selection: Mace - Lucky Hit: Chance to gain 5 Fury when hitting an enemy. Double the amount of Fury gained while Berserking and you deal 15(x) Critical Strike Damage while Berserking.

With the above set up, you gain the Weapon Expertise Technique bonus of having your Arsenal Selection set to Two-Handed Mace, as well as the Weapon Expertise Technique bonus for the Polearm Technique.

Frequently Asked Questions

Build Overview

This build runs relies on Rallying Cry to give us insane amounts of movement speed and Fury Generation. All the damage we use to increase Whirlwind also increases Tornado Whirlwind. We gain those damage increases from Mighty Roar War Cry, Damage Bonus Challenging Shout and Berserking Wrath of the Berserker. All of this combines together for some massive damage!

Variant Breakdown:

  • Legendary is your starter build as you transition outside of your leveling build.
  • Unique is your mid-game transitioning to your late game build.
  • Mythic will be your entry level end-game build. This variant is where you transition into Melted Heart of Selig. This variant still runs Maximum Life.
  • Selig is your final goal. Running Melted Heart of Selig eventually gives the most survivability and damage even though it runs zero Maximum Life.
    • If you find yourself dying with this variant because of Iron Skin adding Maximum Life you can replace it with Leap. You can take Arsenal Bonus Leap and Crusher for a little extra damage.

Defense Options

Set up #1 (Most Tanky):

  • Aspect of Heavenly Strength on Amulet
  • Rage of Harrogath on Chest
  • Aspect of Berserk Ripping on Ring
  • Full Throttle Wrath of the Berserker
  • Aspect of Coagulation on Pants

Set up #2 (Less Tanky More Damage)

  • Aspect of Heavenly Strength on Pants
  • Rage of Harrogath on Chest
  • Heavy Hitting Aspect on Amulet
  • Full Throttle Wrath of the Berserker
  • Aspect of Walloping on Ring (Pit Push) Aspect of Berserk Ripping (Farming)

Cooldown Option

This will not be as tanky as the set up in the Equipment section of the planner:

  • Rage of Harrogath
  • Raging Challenging Shout
  • Full Throttle Wrath of the Berserker
  • Aspect of Berserk Ripping on your Ring

Arsenal Selection

Your Arsenal selection will be Two-handed Mace.

Aspect Interaction

  • Earthstriker's Aspect give you a damage bonus without swapping weapons. You just need to have the Overpower buff on to activate the second half of the aspect.
  • Weapon Master give you a damage bonus without swapping weapons.
  • Battle-Mad Aspect gives you damage bonus while you're Berserking you do not need to swap weapons.
  • Blood Rage gains damage as long as you have Berserking active. Applying damage over time is not needed to gain the extra damage bonus.

Fury Management

Affixes

  • Resource Generation will help increase the amount of Fury you gain and pairs really well with Rallying Cry.
  • Fury Regeneration needs to be added onto the Helmet, Chest piece, Pants and Boots.
  • Do not spam Whirlwind if you are not near monsters if you can't maintain Fury.
  • You can also use Tempers that add Lucky hit chance to restore primary resources.
  • If you do not have Ring of Starless Skies you can always add in a couple of Resource Cost Reduction affixes onto your Two-handed Weapons to mimic that effect.
