How it Plays

Gameplay strategy

  1. Teleport and Dash through enemies while casting Blizzards and Frost Nova regularly behind you. This will clear basically everything.
  2. For Elite Enemies: Cast Blizzard, Frost Nova, Dash through enemies to apply Vulnerable, destroy your Ice Shard key for priority burst or use more Blizzards for AoE centric damage with multiple elites with a slight delay.
  3. Use Deep Freeze for large AoE clears and sketchy engages. Lots of elites and regular enemies warrant the use of this ability. You can Teleport out as soon as Deep Freeze ends! It also applies a very strong Barrier to you.
  4. Cast Flame Shield to avoid certain death or survive sketchy engages. Very useful for Uber Lilith to survive that fight.

Boss Rotation

  1. Tibault's Will will only regenerate mana when you newly apply the unstoppable buff! Using Metamorphosis Dashes into another one or teleport will NOT trigger it. The unstoppable buff of Metamorphosis needs to fall off before that.
  2. Cast Blizzard until OOM.
  3. Use Dash to apply Vulnerable, Unstoppable and replenish mana.
  4. Cast Blizzard until OOM.
  5. Use Frostnova.
  6. Cast Blizzard until OOM.
  7. Use Teleport.
  8. Cast Blizzard until OOM.
  9. Go to **back to 3. ** and start anew.
  10. If you fail at maintaining the combo, use Deep Freeze to reset it.

What Weapon should I use?

1h + offhand. 2h weapons feel extremely clunky and will kill you. Its not worth giving up the extra attackspeed and utility provided to you by the offhand.

Gems

Check the Defenses and Resistances section.

Boot base

Multi dash boots are best.

How it Works

Blizzard triggering Ice Spikes through the Glacial Aspect will be your primary source of damage with Ice Shards used to burst down targets while they are Frozen. This is done either automatically by your Enchantments or by hard casting it.

Frozen Orbs will further provide you with Vulnerable as well as additional Chill build up. The additional AoE and vulnerable uptime is incredible for pushing dungeons and keeping bosses vulnerable without having to constantly dash through them with Metamorphosis. However, there is merit in exchanging Frozen Orb for Fire Bolt which I will be discussion in a chapter down below.

This build is capable of tanking everything the game has to offer while also clearing everything at incredible speeds. Well, expect for Uber liliths 100% onshots. You need to gid gud here.

Season 2 also offers you with great vampiric powers like Undying, giving you a much-needed source of life recovery and Metamorphosis, which is an additional source of unstoppable and vulnerable, as well as mana recovery with Tibault's Will. Other powers like Call Familiar further increase the damage you deal to enemies through a neat little bat whenever you cast Blizzard.

Leveling

For a detailed look at the leveling phase, please have a look at Mordarim's Frost Witch 1-100 Leveling + Endgame Full Progression (Blizzard, Frozen Orb, Ice Shard).

You can transition to this version once you reach 80 or once you aquire Tibault's Will.

Defenses and Resistances

Season 2 changes how Defences work, with Armor only mitigating physical damage and Resistances mitigating each respective element.

Resistances now have a hard cap at 70%. Meaning a 100-damage elemental damage hit would only deal 30 damage. We can further increase this cap with maximum resistance. Endgame elixirs provide you with additional 6% to one element. The 100-damage hit would now be reduced by 76% to 24, which is 20% LESS damage taken than before. This cap can be increased to 85%.

This change makes Resistances incredibly valuable, especially when pushing higher Nightmare Dungeon (70+) **. Sorcerers get a ton of free resistances due to the **Intelligence stat providing it to them, however it is not enough to outright ignore this defensive stat altogether.

  1. Cold Resistance will be taken care of by your paragon board.
  2. Lightning Resistance will need one Topaz Gem in your Jewelry.
  3. Fire, Shadow, Poison Resistance will need one affix each on your gear. You can alternatively offset one by using two of the respective elemental gems on your jewelry. This frees up one affix in exchange for 500 armour. The best choice for this is one of the resistances on your boots, which lets you use Ranks of Frost Nova instead.

Crafting Elixiers is a valid way to free up another affix on your gear but I personally much prefer armor elixiers for high NM pushes since its much harder to acquire sufficient values to not get destroyed once you enter 90-100 NMs.

Speaking of which, Armour is still incredible and MUCH easier to get maxed out, even on a sorcerer. The higher Item Power allows for a much higher base value. Total Armour affixes now also reach values of nearly 30% per affix. This combined with the buffed Aspect of Disobedience gets you to 13441 Armour which translates to 85% reduced physical damage taken.

And lastly Damage Reduction. This stat works on all damage types and is a great choice at each stage of the game but should be prioritized last! Get one affix with damage reduction vs distant on your chest. Everything else is taken care of by uniques, aspects, skilltree and paragon board.

If you do not have a Harlequin Crest use Snowguard's Aspect on your helmet.

Also Maximum Life is king due to the Protection passive generating a 30% barrier on cooldown use based on your maximum life. This stat also improve your effective HP massively.

Scaling your Damage

Season 2 also saw some big changes to how you are going to Scale your Damage. Crit Damage and Vulnerable Damage are now all added into the same bucket as all other damage increases like Damage to chilled. They now work as increased damage.

Critical strike are however still useful! A critical strike will now always deal 50% more damage. Meaning a 100 damage hit will now deal 150 damage. Critical Strikes are basically 50% more damage for free.

Vulnerable saw the same treatment with a 20% more multiplier. 100 damage will increase to 120. We want to apply Vulnerable for effects such as the legendary nodes Frigid Fate and Icefall as well as the vampiric power Prey on the Weak and the Storm Swell Aspect on gear.

The calculation for this is now as follows:

(Base damage) x (Willpower modifier) * (increased damage) x (crit multiplier if crit [static 50%]) x (vulnerable multiplier if vulnerable [static 20%]) x (more multiplier 1) x (more multiplier 2) x (more multiplier 3) x …

Ranks to Skills are INCREDIBLY STRONG in Season 2 and very diserable. Intelligence is also much more useful now due to its natural more multiplier behaviour. Afterwards stack unconditional increases like Cold Damage which in turn scales the more multiplier from Frigid Fate, followed by conditions you can easily meet, like Damage to chilled. We try to avoid crit damage and vulnerable damage as much as possible. We grab it, however only dead last as an afterthought. Non-Physical Damage counts towards cold damage, which in turn scales the more multiplier accessed through the Frigid Fate legendary node.

As for the Paragon board its a great source for your offensive stats but also for additional defences in form of DR and Resistances. Unlock glyph thresholds first before scaling them with additional increases to your damage. Some glyphs need 15 ranks in them to utilize their threshold bonus. Progress from board to board, grab the legendary nodes ASAP and move on to the next board afterwards.

Glyph Priority

  2. Tactician
  3. Contro
  4. Enchanter
  5. Stalagmite
  6. Frostbite

Fire Bolt vs Frozen Orb (Bossing vs NMs)

The Frozen Orb Enchant comes with a ton of benefits for this build. You get better vulnerable uptime, better chill build up for freezing or staggering enemies and the damage is also relatively high, making it a great tool to clear trash and significantly increase the single target damage you deal. However, it is mostly beneficial to NMs and AoE damage. Bosses are a different story since we are constantly using Metamorphosis anyway, which in turn applies vulnerability.

This makes the Fire Bolt Enchant a great alternative for bossing. The burn damage applies regardless of cc, we free up a ton of additional Skillpoints for other nodes like Devouring Blaze, which increases the crit damage we deal by another % multiplier and provides us with the possibility to use Flame Shield instead of Frost Bolt on our bar. However, this should be the standard in high tier content anyway, exchanging one rank of Frozen Orb for it.

Ultimately, it’s a choice of what type of content you are doing. NMs? Frozen Orb. Bossing? Fire Bolt.

Now if you decide to go for Fire bolt you are going to put 2 points into it instead of Frost bolt. But what about the rest?

You get access to 7 additional skillpoints. Those are distributed as follows:

  1. Max out Teleport (2 points)
  2. Grab Flame Shield (1 point)
  3. Grab the Inner Flame passive (1 point) and 3 points in Devouring Blaze (3 points)

On your Amulet you will also want Ranks to Devouring Blaze instead of Hoarfrost! So you will need 2 amulets.

If you want to go for Frozen Orb but still do bosses go for 4 Ranks in Frozen Orb instead of 5 and put one point in Flame Shiled.

Your Skillbar should include Flame Shield for high tier content instead of Frost Bolt or Fire Bolt!! You will NEVER use your basic skill during endgame content.

High Night Dungeons and Bosses

High Nightmare Dungeons in the range of 90-100 are easily possible with this build. The immense range of Blizzard as well as Ice Shard allows you to stay far away from enemies while still dealing enormous amount of damage. Teleport as well as your Metamorphosis dash both provide you with Unstoppable, so you should never experience the stunlock of death. Frost Nova freezes enemies and allows you to setup your burst damage.

Combo: Apply Blizzard, Frost nova, Dash through enemies to apply vulnerable, destroy your Ice Shard key for priority burst or use more Blizzards for AoE centric damage with a slight delay.

Poison enemies hit VERY, VERY HARD. Make sure to keep those in check and either apply hard cc or stay one screen away while off screening them with rigorous application of Blizzard and Ice Shard.

As for Bosses, you can face tank everything except for Uber Liliths one shots. But wait you actually can through Deep Freeze and Flame Shield. Those make you invulnerable to damage! Meaning you can ignore mechanics every few seconds. Rejoice. You only need to gid gud for a fraction of the fight.
Duriel can be safely face tanked. The adds are a pain but you can even ignore them for the most part.
