Diablo 4 Build

Chain Lightning - Lightning Currents

presentationSorcerer
Season 2

Build Overview

We employ Chain Lightning for devastating effects, enhancing its capabilities with Aspects and Unstable Currents. The build is also quite versatile, allowing for a potential swap of Lightning Spear for Ice Armour with a defensive amulet. Enchantments are switchable based on circumstances, accommodating shifts like exchanging Fire Bolt for Frost Bolt to stagger bosses.

How it Plays

  1. We’ll be spamming Chain Lightning and Lightning Spear when we can, applying Frost Nova when needed for Vulnerability.
  2. We have two defensives at our disposal, Flame Shield and Teleport, Teleport comes with a DR buff, so use it often.
  3. Use Unstable Currents if you run Into Elites/Bosses for the ability to cast a lot of spells for a decent burst.

How it Works

We have some flexibility with this build, and we can change out our Lightning Spear for Ice Armour if we have a +Defensives amulet if we need the durability as Lightning Spear will still be cast while Currents is up, but this shouldn't be too necessary.

Our goal overall is to get enough Mana Regeneration so we can constantly spam out Chain Lightning.

Enchantments can be switched out depending on what we’re doing- or what we need if our CC potential vs bosses isn’t high. For example, we can briefly swap out Fire Bolt for Frost Bolt. That is why I keep both of the basic abilities levelled. You can just put two points in Fire Bolt for an increase in Burn, but the damage difference isn't anything significant.

This is a build focused on a level 50-80+ character; for a more levelling focused build, see here.

Core

Chain Lightning is our bread and butter for this build, it does reasonable damage and bounces often giving us plenty of extra damage to boot. It works great with Unstable Currents and its bounces are further increased by Aspects like "Unbroken Tether".

Defensives

We’ll be using all 4 of the Sorcerer's defensive abilities, allowing us the ability to survive most situations.

  • Teleport should be used mainly, in my opinion, to engage but can be used to retreat until you get used to the play style. This is also how you would commonly play when you don’t have the Raiments of the Infinite.
  • Ice Armour should be used when initiating. We don’t take any passives, but it’s a solid defensive on its own. We can opt into its passive “Mystical Ice Armour” which increases barrier size when attacking vulnerable enemies. This can be effective if you have durability issues, as we are constantly applying vulnerability.
  • Frost Nova is our source of Vulnerability. This is great because we can have a reasonably consistent uptime on this.
  • Flame Shield is our form of “Cleanse”, it allows us to skip out on control-impairing effects, and it also gives us a valuable boost of speed, I usually use it to break out of hard CCs or move away from ground effects that will CC me, it’s important to note here that Flame Shield also makes us “Immune”, it’s an incredibly powerful skill that gives us the ability to avoid getting one-shot.

Ultimate

Unstable Currents is a great skill, allowing us for 10 seconds to cast random “Shock” skills, it can cast all of them, at random- and it’ll even cast them at the level we have them at, with the passives we select, so due to us focusing on Chain Lightning, Unstable will also have a chance to cast those same Chain Lightnings.

Keystone

Are keystones with this build don’t change, at all, “Vyr’s Mastery” is basically the best possible solution for our build, especially after the buffs, it gives up great damage up close and a huge DR bonus to boot. If you wanted better uptime on your Unstable Currents we could opt for Overflowing Energy but I don't personally think it's required.

Mana Management

Mana can be a problem early, so we'll want two rings invested for this.

Firstly we'll always want Recharging Aspect, The Aspect was buffed recently as well putting it pretty high up there if you're using Chain Lightning. it can be picked up early as a Dungeon Reward which is incredibly helpful.

The second aspect we'll want is something like Prodigy Aspect, though getting anything here and working around it can help, for example, a decently Aspect of the Umbral mixed with Frost Bolt enchantment can work very similarly to how Recharging Aspect works.

Enchantments

  • Fire Bolt is here to take advantage of certain Glyphs and Passives, as well as item modifiers.
  • Frozen Orb is great here as it gives us a lot of bonuses, It helps in keeping up and applying vulnerability when we need it, It's also here to apply stacks of Chill which opens up Paragon Board options, both offensive and defensive from something like the Frostbite.
