Build Overview

The Dance of Knives Rogue Leveling Build Guide teaches you about the Gear, Skills and Playstyle to reach the Endgame in Diablo 4.

Dance of Knives is now a Core Skill and has been the fastest leveling build in the entire game. Due to its high mobility, Imbuement flexibility and great single target DPS, it is an excellent choice.

Dance of Knives in addition to Dark Shroud can go beyond the 200% Movement Speed cap now.

You can sustain Energy through Blade Shift and walking through enemies with the side upgrades. While spinning with Dance of Knives, that happens all the time.

The Runeword Zephyr (Bow) is an excellent early game choice due to it's Lucky Hit: Chance to deal 3500-4000 Lightning damage. This early into the game, this will basically one-shot everything. With Dance of Knives high innate Lucky Hit Chance, this procs very often.

This variant is used before having access to Dance of Knives: Star Shards and Inner Sight.

Cast Blade Shift to sustain your Energy through Range of Motion Blade Shift and Energy Blade Shift. From Level 15 to 20, you can equip Combo Points.

Use Poison Imbuement when dealing with tough Elites or Bosses.

Dark Shroud, Concealment and Poison Imbuement can be cast while spinning with Dance of Knives.

At Level 14 you can also additionally invest 1 point into Shadow Imbuement and activate it instead Poison Imbuement for better Area damage before having Star Shards Dance of Knives unlocked.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Level (S15)

Leveling in Diablo 4 is usually best done in areas with high monster and elite density, on the highest difficulty you can still mostly one-hit kill monsters.

To level efficiently, you want to follow these steps:

Start on Normal and equip your Pet and Mercenaries.
Start the Seasonal Questline.
Go to Temis, reroll and select Warplans until you get at least 1 Undercity.
1. Swap to Penitent for the Hand-in and back to normal afterwards.
Progress the Seasonal Questline, use the guaranteed Runes to craft Stealth and Zephyr (Bow) orZephyr (Crossbow), equip Leoric's Crown and Stone of Jordan.
1. After you acquired Zephyr, set the difficulty to Penitent.
Select Ice of Excidium from Baal, Lord of Destruction as your Prime Evil Power.
Put the point into Jade Epiphany in the right of the Undercity Tree.
Swap to Fan of Knives Upgrade for bosses
Farm the Undercity and grab the XP Orbs after raising your Attunement Rank.
Rinse Repeat until Level 70.

I'm level 70! Now what?

Complete the Season Journey Capstones
Hand in Seasonal Reputation board in Temis.
Save all your materials and only use a minimal amount to keep DoK functioning. DoK does not require any uniques so do not use lair keys on bosses before T6/7.
Aggressively use the cube to upgrade rares to legendaries for aspects.
Remove affixes from rares to turn them white to upgrade them to Uniques you are still missing for which ever endgame build you are targeting.
Craft Undercity Tributes and run the Lesser Talisman ones to get Charms and Seals quickly for the 5 piece bonus.

Dance of Knives Attack Speed Scaling

Attack Speed does not increase the rate at which Knives are thrown.
Instead, Attack Speed scales the Base Damage of Dance of Knives linearly.
If Dance of Knives Base Damage is 100% Weapon Damage, adding 50% Attack Speed increases it to 150%. This results in a relative increase of 50%.
If Dance of Knives Base Damage is 200% Weapon Damage, adding 50% Attack Speed increases it to 300%. So, a relative increase of 50% again.
To conclude, Attack Speed is its own separate multiplier for Dance of Knives.

Out of curiosity, why do you have Critical Strike Damage as priority state on the weapons but have Splinter of Hellfire on the amulet that makes you lose 100% Critical Strike Chance?
