How it Plays
- Alternate between Maul and Shred to stack the Quickshift passive up to 6 times.
- Activate Grizzly Rage.
- Then use Shred on enemies, weaving in your Dodge and staying mobile to trigger your Catalyst.
- Pop Blood Howl for even more Attack Speed.
How it Works
Let’s start with the fundamental pillars that make this build work. This build doesn’t need a specific item to function properly, which makes it versatile and gives us multiple options when it comes to gear.
That said, we do have this ultimate and aspect that are key to making the build shine.
We’ll be using Grizzly Rage, which grants us plenty of bonuses, damage reduction, more damage, and 30% more armor when you have it at rank 5. It’s the best ultimate to use with Shred to push it to the max.
But, as we all know, Grizzly Rage is a Werebear ability, so to use it with Shred we need this mandatory aspect: Dire Wolf’s Aspect. When we activate Grizzly Rage it transforms us into a Dire Werewolf and gives us juicy bonuses like movement speed and damage reduction. With this aspect, we can now use Shred and our Werewolf skills.
It’s really simple to understand, nothing complicated — from these two things we can start building everything else to maximize Shred’s damage.
Another key aspect is Rabid Bear, which converts our direct damage (in this case, Shred) into poison damage, turning it into elemental damage. That’s why glyphs like Keeper work.
Now that we have the key aspects of the build working, let’s talk a bit about the gameloop and explain a mechanic that’s used heavily here.
First, we need these two runes: MONI-QUE. Moni activates Que whenever we use mobility skills, and Shred counts as one, so our Earthen Bulwark will be active all the time.
The trick is that when Earthen Bulwark activates, thanks to the chaos perk Wild Transformation, it shifts us back to human form. When Que activates, it detects it as a human form skill, so we’re actually shifting forms constantly — even if you don’t see the animation.
By understanding this, you’ll see that we’re shifting from human to werewolf all the time, which means both bonuses from Wild Transformation are active constantly: more attack speed and +20% critical strike damage. For a build like Shred that relies on consecutive crits, that’s a huge DPS increase.
Human form also triggers Cyclone Armor, and I assign points there so mobs get pulled in every time we shift, optimizing DPS.
Another interesting change is in the paragon: the Shapeshifter glyph is better than Headhunter for this build. I’ll explain why in the paragon section.

Changelog
GRIZZLY SHRED SECTION
- We swapped the INNER BEAST page for Survival Instinct. This page gives us several max health nodes, which help a lot to survive in high-level Pits and have a higher base Overpower damage.
- On top of that, we also get several nodes that increase damage when we’re healthy, which is pretty much all the time with this build.
- The Temperings have to be these ones, no matter what, if you want to push higher in the Pit, because the cooldown of Grizzly Rage needs to be as low as possible.
- On top of that, the key Temperings are the ones that give Shred a chance to deal double damage.
- Fist of Fate above 100% is ideal, absolutely key if we want to increase DPS.
- We won’t be using the Survival Instinct node, since apparently the node doesn’t work, even the part that says it gives us 25% more Overpower damage.
I haven’t had more time to test it, but if you check it out and let me know, I’d really appreciate it. - In the skill tree, we changed some points to get better Fortification, Barrier, and Damage Reduction.
This way, we’ll have better survivability in battle and gain damage bonuses for staying healthy and fortified. - For open world you can use THE RUNES -- BAC - JAH AND MONI - QUE.
- ENJOY
RUNES
- The Moni-Qax rune and Poc-Quq have the best activation speed.
