Technique

When choosing your Barbarian Weapon Expertise Technique, you do not have to be using the weapon of the Weapon Expertise Technique you chose.

Example:

  • Expertise chosen is Polearm - 15%(x) increased Lucky Hit Chance and you deal 15(x) increased damage while healthy
  • Arsenal Selection: Mace - Lucky Hit: Chance to gain 5 Fury when hitting an enemy. Double the amount of Fury gained while Berserking and you deal 15(x) Critical Strike Damage while Berserking.

With the above set up, you gain the Weapon Expertise Technique bonus of having your Arsenal Selection set to Two-Handed Mace, as well as the Weapon Expertise Technique bonus for the Polearm Technique.

How it Plays

Whirlwind Earthquake Rotation

  • Start with Rallying Cry to generate Fury from Tibault's Will
  • Use Whirlwind and hold down the key-bind for it.
  • Use Shouts should not be used all at once. Guttural Yell in your Skill Tree reduces damage that
enemies do when they are effected by Shouts.
  • Use Iron Skin when you take heavy damage.

How it Works

Build Overview

Arsenal Selection

This build will be running on a Two-handed Mace set up. That means the Arsenal Selection will be your Two-handed Bludgeon Weapons selected for Whirlwind.

Defense

Offense

  • Earthquakes will be your main source of damage with this build.
  • Aspect of Earthquakes will give you additional damage for your Whirlwind when you stand inside of an Earthquake and for 4 seconds after you leave that Earthquake. With Igni sometimes the Earthquake will not be underneath you, so you'll need to Whirlwind over the Earthquake to gain your buff.
  • Aspect of Incendiary Fissures will convert your damage to Fire Damage and it will give it increased damage.
  • Vehement Brawler's Aspect gives you damage whenever you cast your ultimate skill. This also increases the ranks of the Ultimate which reduces it's cooldown as well.
  • Dust Devil's Aspect is used for the increased damage after enemies are hit with Dust Devils. We get Dust Devils from the Force of Nature in the Paragon Board.

Gear Set-up

Uniques

  • Crown of Lucion is the strongest helmet in the game. With the changes made in Season 12, you will have to be able to solve the Fury Management issues as this will increase the cost of your skills by 210%.
  • Mantle of Mountain's Fury will be a great source of Armor and Defensive Stance for Damage Reduction and a passive heal. This also is a huge source of damage and is used because it gives you a chance to have your Earthquakes deal double their base damage.
  • Tibault's Will will add extra damage when you become Unstoppable. You get this from Enhanced Rallying Cry
  • Ramaladni's Magnum Opus is one of the biggest increases to your damage. It takes up to 50% of whatever your Maximum Fury is and converts it to a damage multiplier. Ramaladni's Magnum Opus. Note: This item has changed in Season 10 to effect all abilities now. The "Skills using this weapon" has been removed.

Mythic Uniques

  • Ring of Starless Skies adds damage to all of your abilities after you spend primary resources.
  • The Grandfather has a Unique Aspect that doubles your Critical Strike Damage bonus. More importantly for this build it gives very high Maximum Resources. It's a great source of Max Life and the All Stats play a huge role in activating your Paragon Nodes.
  • WARNING - This option is very difficult and almost impossible to run but Melted Heart of Selig will add huge amounts of Maximum Resources to your build, which will add massive damage scaling with this set-up.
  • ALTERNATE - Heir of Perdition will give you major increases to Critical Strike Chance, Movement Speed, and BIG Damage!

Fury Management

DO NOT SPAM Whirlwind UNLESS THERE ARE MONSTERS AROUND

To maintain Fury you'll need to have your Call of the Ancients cooldown at 9.5 seconds. That can be done with either a Greater Affix on Arreat's Bearing on the Call of the Ancients Cooldown Reduction (See planner). If you do not have a Greater Affix you can temper Call of the Ancients Cooldown Reduction on your rings. The reason this is so important Korlic generates 10 Fury each time he does damage. The more Ancients you have up, the more Fury you get back.

Using Bold Chieftain's Aspect will allow you to keep Rallying Cry running 100% of the time. This will give you 30% increased Fury generation. If you're still running out of Fury Yen's Blessing is a great way to add more Fury Generation. Enhanced Hammer of the Ancients gives a massive buff to your Fury Generation so maintaining that buff is very important.

Resource Cost Reduction on Two-handed weapons as a Greater Affix can go up to 26.26% so looking for a weapon that has that affix can help solve a lot of your Resource problems. If you are running two Legendary weapons, this will be the equivalent of running the Ring of Starless Skies

Hardcore Characters

Build defenses before offenses always! See below for more details.

This build will function with the Melted Heart of Selig and will be incredibly tanky for anyone playing on Hardcore. However, please do this at the risk of knowing that if you do not generate Fury as soon as you leave town, you will die. It does not matter if if it on your horse, or walking. You can use abilities such as Rallying Cry, Ground Stomp or even Fury Per Second if you can slot it in to make sure you always have Fury.

In your Skill Tree you'll need to make sure you have nodes like Defensive Stance, Aggressive Resistance and Martial Vigor even if it's not in the guide for Softcore characters. Walking Arsenal is amazing for maintaining Unstoppable and helping you generate Fury.

In your Paragon Board make sure you add bare minimum to your Glyphs then move on to all your Legendary Nodes before going into every Defensive Node as possible, except for Maximum Life. If you are nervous about dying, start by replacing your offensive glyphs like Might or Revenge with Glyphs like Territorial and Undaunted.
