Version 1.3 is releasing in just a couple days, and we know have full information on Yanagi’s kit, her Signature Engine, and more. With this, we have a very good idea on how Yanagi will play, what teams work with her, and what we can expect.
Overall, Yanagi is an Agent focusing on the Disorder mechanic, which looks to combine two different Anomaly effects for high damage. Disorder is especially powerful when used with Fire/Electric/Ether.
These Attributes apply DoT (Burn, Shock, Corruption), but Disorder allows you to detonate the DoT (similar to Kafka from HSR). By doing this, you can deal damage much faster than letting the DoT simply apply over time.
Yanagi is coming right after Burnice, a Fire Anomaly Agent. These two Agents will undoubtedly have great synergy together. While Yanagi can be used by herself in a Hyper Carry type team (similar to Jane), she likely will perform best along Burnice for a Disorder team.
ZZZ Yanagi Release Date
Yanagi’s banner will be on the first half of Version 1.3, which will run from November 6th, 2024 to November 27th, 2024. She will be featured alongside A-Rank Agents: Anby and Billy.
ZZZ Yanagi Kit Review
Polarity Disorder
In simpler terms, when Yanagi uses her EX Special Attack/Ultimate on an enemy under an Anomaly effect, she will trigger a “mini disorder” known as Polarity Disorder. This will proc a small Disorder effect without removing the original Anomaly.
So for example, you can Burn an enemy with Burnice, swap to Yanagi, use EX Special, and this will trigger Polarity Disorder without removing the Burn. With Polarity Disorder, you effectively create an additional multiplier on top of your existing Anomaly effect. You can then continue to attack the enemy and trigger a full Disorder with Shock, removing the original Burn and dealing massive damage.
Stance Switching
Yanagi’s Basic Attack has a Stance mechanic that grants her buffs depending on her stance. Stance 1 and 2 grant her 10% Electric DMG and 10% PEN Ratio respectively. Stance 1 will increase Anti-Interrupt Level, while Stance 2 will increase Interrupt Level.
You can switch stances by using her Special Attack/EX Special Attack. After Switching Stances, you will retain the buff from the previous Stance for 8 seconds. Because of this, you will want to constantly weave your Special Attacks to switch stances and keep up the buffs from both.
Note: If you want to switch stance but save your Energy, you can Special Attack by “pressing” while EX Special Attack is a “hold.”
Lastly, using Assist Follow-Up or Chain Attack will be the only other way of switching stances.
Basic Attack 3/4/5
Yanagi’s Basic Attack has a sequence of 5 attacks. The last three attacks, Basic 3/4/5, deal Electric DMG, while the first two simply deal Physical DMG. To maximize your damage and Anomaly buildup, you will want to only do Basic 3/4/5. This can be achieved through a variety of ways.
Virtually every part of Yanagi’s kit allows her to transition straight into Basic 3/4/5:
- Dodge Counter
- Special Attack
- EX Special Attack
- Chain Attack
- Ultimate
- Quick Assist
- Assist Follow-up
As you can see, doing basically anything other than Basic Attack on Yanagi will allow you to transition straight into BA 3/4/5. (The exception being Dash Attack)
Lastly, using EX Special also gives Yanagi a special state called “Shinrabanshou” which lasts 15 seconds. During this state, Basic Attack 5 will lead into Basic Attack 3. This means you can cycle Basic Attack 3/4/5 -> 3/4/5 over and over for 15 seconds. Note that if you get hit, you will need to start from Basic Attack 1 or Special/EX Special/Ultimate.
Special Attack Block/Parry
Lastly, Yanagi’s Special Attack (NOT EX Special) has a unique block mechanic. When used after Basic Attack 3, 4, or 5, Special Attack will activate and stance switch faster and block enemy attacks. Then as usual, you can follow up from Special Attack right back into Basic 3/4/5.
Because of this mechanic, Yanagi won’t be looking to dodge much. You have a built in block/parry mechanic that also plays into her stance switching mechanic.
Note: EX Special Attack has a longer animation and you are already invulnerable while performing it, so there is no block mechanic as a part of it.
Potential Mono Electric / Hyper Carry / Stun-Burst
Polarity Disorder also has a second function. Usually, if you run a Mono Electric team, you are applying Shock too quickly. When you reapply Shock, you simply refresh the duration of the Shock. This can lead to a loss of damage since you don’t get the full DoT from Shock.
However, with Polarity Disorder, you are able to add an additional damage source on top of the Shock. This can make Mono Electric teams or even Hyper Carry Yanagi teams more viable compared to Grace in the same role.
We still believe Disorder teams are the best for Yanagi, but Polarity Disorder looks to make other Yanagi teams more viable, giving players without Burnice more options.
ZZZ Yanagi Skills
Core Skills
Core Passive: Lunar Eclipse (Max Level)
After Yanagi activates her EX Special Attack, the DMG multiplier of Disorder is increased by 250% when any squad member applies the Disorder effect to an enemy, lasting 15s. When her EX Special Attack hits an enemy, Yanagi’s Electric DMG against the target is increased by 20 for 15s.
Additional Ability: Gessou
When another character in your squad is an Anomaly character or shares the same attribute: After switching stances, when Yanagi hits an enemy with Basic Attack: Tsukuyomi Kagura, Anomaly Buildup increases by 45% for 8s.
Basic Attack
Basic Attack: Tsukuyomi Kagura
Yanagi has two stances: Jougen and Kagen. Press Basic Attack to activate:
Execute up to five forward slashes based on the current stance, causing Physical DMG and Electric DMG. During combat, Yanagi gains the corresponding stance buff based on her current stance:
- Jougen stance buff: Electric DMG increases by 10%. Anti-Interrupt Level increases during Basic Attacks.
- Kagen stance buff: PEN Ratio increases by 10%. Interrupt Level increases for Basic Attacks.
For 8s after switching stances, Yanagi retains the bonus from the previous stance.
Dodge
Dodge: Wandering Breeze
Press Dodge to activate. A quick dash dodge. Character is invulnerable while using this skill.
Dash Attack: Fleeting Flight
Press Basic Attack during a dodge to activate: Slashes enemies in front, dealing Physical DMG.
Dodge Counter: Rapid Retaliation
Press Basic Attack during a Perfect Dodge to activate. Slashes enemies in front, dealing Electric DMG. Character is invulnerable while using this skill. After using this skill, you can immediately follow up with the 3rd hit of the current stance’s Basic Attack.
Assist
Quick Assist: Blade of Elegance
When the on-field character is launched, press Assist to activate. Slashes enemies in front, dealing Electric DMG. Character is invulnerable while using this skill. After using this skill, you can immediately follow up with the 3rd hit of the current stance’s Basic Attack.
Defensive Assist: Radiant Reversal
When the character on field is about to be attacked, press Assist to activate. Parries the enemy’s attack, inflicting massive Daze. Character is invulnerable while using this skill.
Assist Follow-Up: Weeping Willow Stab
Press Basic Attack after a Defensive Assist to activate: Switch stances, and quickly deliver multiple slashes to enemies in front, dealing Electric DMG. Character is invulnerable while using this skill. After using this skill, you can immediately follow up with the 3rd hit of the current stance’s Basic Attack.
Special Attack
Special Attack: Intense Heat Aging Method
Press Special Attack to activate:
Perform a forward slash, dealing Electric DMG, and switch the current stance. Anti-Interrupt level is increased while using this skill. If activated after the 3rd, 4th, or 5th hit of a Basic Attack, it activates Swift Ruten, speeding up the slash and the stance change. Block enemy attacks while Swift Ruten is active. Upon activating Swift Ruten, Yanagi can immediately follow up with the 3rd hit of the current stance’s Basic Attack.
EX Special Attack: Gekka Ruten (Level 12)
With enough energy, hold Special Attack to activate:
Charge up power for a quick forward thrust, followed by a downward attack, dealing massive Electric DMG. Upon executing the thrust, Yanagi switches stances and enters the Shinrabanshou state, lasting 15s. For the duration of this state, when following up with a subsequent Basic Attack from the 5th hit of a Basic Attack or other skills, the combo will begin directly from the 3rd hit of the Basic Attack. If the downward attack hits an enemy suffering an Anomaly, it triggers a special Disorder effect, Polarity Disorder, dealing 15% of the original Disorder effect’s DMG to the target, plus an additional 32.0% of Yanagi’s Anomaly Proficiency. Polarity Disorder will not remove the target’s Anomaly. Character is invulnerable while using this skill.
Chain Attack
Chain Attack: Celestial Harmony
When a Chain Attack is triggered, select the character to activate: Switch stances and unleash a powerful slash on enemies in front, dealing massive Electric DMG. Character is invulnerable while using this skill. After using this skill, you can immediately follow up with the 3rd hit of the current stance’s Basic Attack.
Ultimate: Raiei Tenge (Level 12)
When Decibel Rating is at Maximum, press Ultimate to activate: Yanagi unleashes her potential and delivers a powerful slash to a large area of enemies in front in a very short time, followed by an additional lightning strike, dealing massive Electric DMG. When the lightning strike hits an enemy affected by an Attribute Anomaly, it triggers a special Disorder effect called Polarity Disorder. This deals DMG equal to 15% of the original Disorder effect plus an additional 32.0% of Yanagi’s Anomaly Proficiency. Polarity Disorder will not remove the target’s Anomaly. Character is invulnerable while using this skill. After using this skill, Yanagi can immediately follow up with the 3rd hit of the current stance’s Basic Attack.
Yanagi ZZZ Mindscape Cinema
M1 | Know Thy Self, Know Thy Enemy: When any squad member inflicts an Anomaly on an enemy, Yanagi gains 1 stack of Clarity, lasting 15s, stacking up to 3 times. Repeated triggers reset the duration. Upon being hit by an enemy attack, Yanagi consumes 1 stack of Clarity to gain invulnerability for 1s. When Yanagi has 1 or more stacks of Clarity, her Anomaly Proficiency increases by 80. |
M2 | Outstanding Adaptability: During her EX Special Attack, the rapid thrust’s Electric Anomaly Buildup increases by 20%. Holding down the Special Attack button after a rapid thrust hits an enemy will consume 10 additional Energy to launch another thrust. If Energy is insufficient or the button is released, the attack automatically follows up with the downward attack. When the downward attack hits an enemy suffering an Anomaly and triggers Polarity Disorder, the DMG multiplier increases to 20% of the original Disorder effect. Each additional thrust increases this multiplier by 15%, up to a maximum of 2 extra thrusts. |
M3 | Tsukishiro Style Management: Basic Attack, Assist, Dodge, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2 |
M4 | Chessmaster: When Yanagi inflicts Attribute Anomaly DMG on an enemy, they suffer the Exposed effect, lasting 15s. Attacks on enemies under the Expose effect will have 16% increased PEN Ratio. |
M5 | “Other Mother”: Basic Attack, Dodge, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2 |
M6 | Inhuman Blood: After a thrust attack during her EX Special Attack, the duration of the Shinrabanshou state increases to 30s. While the state is active, her EX Special Attack DMG increases by 20%. The maximum number of times the additional DMG multiplier increase effect for Polarity Disorder in Outstanding Adaptability can be triggered increases to 4, and the Energy cost for the first 4 additional thrust attacks is halved. |
ZZZ Yanagi Mindscape Value
Yanagi is the first character in ZZZ to have an extremely relevant Mindscape 2. For most characters, they will get some form of damage buff or quality of life.
Yanagi’s M2 provides an additional kit mechanic, allowing her EX Special to be charged and buffed at the cost of more Energy. This also has it’s own unique animation in game, which can only be unlocked with 2 additional copies.
Hoyoverse is no stranger to releasing powerful M1/M2 effects, Yanagi is simply the first iteration of this design philosophy for ZZZ.
- M1: Medium Value
- M2: Very High Value
- M4: Medium Value
- M6: High Value
M1 mainly provides some quality of life through invulnerability stacks. Since Yanagi has long Basic Attack chains, being interrupted/hit will result in a loss of damage. This can be nice QoL, and the Mindscape also provides 80 AP when Yanagi has a stack.
M4 is another fairly simple damage increase through PEN Ratio, and M6 further buffs up M2 to insane proportions. M6 is very strong, but a hefty investment.
Yanagi ZZZ Build Guide Overview
When it comes to builds, here’s a few basic recommendations. Depending on the team you run, Yanagi’s best build will likely change a lot. Furthermore, there doesn’t seem to be a perfect set for Yanagi’s kit. The current options in the game are all decent, but there’s no amazing one set fits all like Chaos Jazz for Burnice.
As such, I recommend you utilize a set where you already have good substats or something that you can farm efficiently for your account.
W-Engine
- Timeweaver (Signature)
- Electro Lip Gloss
- Fusion Compiler
- Weeping Gemini/Rainforest Gourmet
Drive Disc
- 4-pc

ZZZ Yanagi Best W-Engines
Timeweaver (1)
Base ATK: 714 | Attack: 30%
The equipper’s Electric Anomaly Buildup Rate increases by 30%. When Special Attacks or EX Special Attacks hit enemies under Attribute Anomalies, the equipper’s Anomaly Proficiency increases by 75 for 15s. When the equipper’s Anomaly Proficiency is greater than or equal to 375, Disorder DMG inflicted by the equipper increases by 25%.
As expected, Yanagi’s Signature Engine will be her best performing Engine. It also is one of the few options that grant Anomaly Buildup (Jane Signature and Roaring Ride are the only others).
In an extended fight, Anomaly Buildup may not be necessary if you can’t proc Disorder fast enough, but for clearing content faster in general, it’s a very strong buff. Furthermore, the Engine gives 75 AP and 25% Disorder damage which are both strong damage bonuses. As with many on-field DPS Agents, getting their Signature will result in a great damage boost.
Electro Lip Gloss (1)
Base ATK 595 | Anomaly Proficiency 75
When there are enemies inflicted with Attribute Anomaly on the field, the equipper’s ATK increases by 10% and they deal an additional 15% more DMG to the target.
The Battle Pass Engine for Anomaly is a strong generalist option for any Anomaly Agent. 10% Combat ATK and 15% DMG is quite a strong buff that any Agent can appreciate. As more patches come, many Anomaly players are working toward getting more copies to increase the buff passive. (Up to 16% ATK and 25% DMG at 5)
The second benefit to Electro Lip Gloss is that it’s not tied to a specific playstyle. This Engine will be good in any Yanagi team whether it’s Disorder, Hyper Carry, or Mono Electric.
Fusion Compiler (1)
Base ATK: 684 | PEN Ratio: 24%
Increases ATK by 12%. When using a Special Attack or EX Special Attack, the equipper’s Anomaly Proficiency is increased by 25 for 8s, stacking up to 3 times. The duration of each stack is calculated separately.
Fusion Compiler is Grace’s Signature W-Engine, and it’s a competitive option to use. Firstly, I do NOT recommend purchasing this Engine from the Fading Signal Shop. It costs 30 pulls, which is a lot. That could go toward getting a Signature Engine or toward your next Agent pity.
If you already have this Engine from the Standard Banner, you can definitely use it, I simply don’t recommend going out of your way to get this Engine.
The Passive effect is quite comparable to Lip Gloss, and Yanagi is a character who uses her Special Attack/EX a lot. However, I’m assuming that you’ll average around 2 stacks for a fight. If you’re against a very aggressive enemy and you constantly spam Special Attack for Block, maybe 3 stacks with good uptime is possible.
With 2 stacks, you’re getting 12% ATK and 50 AP. This buff is quite good, but Lip Gloss at higher level will eventually outperform this passive.
Let’s Talk about PEN Ratio
The main selling point of this Engine is the PEN Ratio Main Stat. By itself, 24% PEN Ratio results in about a 15% increase in damage against a Level 70 enemy. However, the more sources of PEN Ratio you have, the better it becomes.
For example, you can combine Disk 5 PEN Ratio (24%), Rina (30%), this Engine (24%), and Puffer Electro 2pc (8%), and Yanagi’s Stance (10%) to get 96% PEN Ratio. You can then get 5 PEN substats on Disks to get effectively 100% PEN Ratio, which is approximately a 120% increase in DMG.
However, you’re giving up a lot of other damage sources to get your PEN Ratio this high. If we compare other sources of damage, you’re giving up:
- 75 AP (Electro Lip Gloss Main Stat)
- 30% Electric DMG (Disk 5)
- 600/1000 ATK (Lucy/Caesar buff)
- 30 AP/10% Electric DMG (Chaos Jazz/Freedom Blues/Thunder Metal 2pc)
The exact difference depends on what team you run, what Disks you have, what Engine you have, etc.
TLDR: Use this Engine if you already have it and don’t plan to pull on Signature or build toward Electro Lip Gloss (5). This Engine will perform better with Rina, but don’t go out of your way if you are planning to use Lucy/Caesar already.
Weeping Gemini (5) / Rainforest Gourmet (5)
Base ATK: 594 | Attack: 25%
Whenever a squad member inflicts an Attribute Anomaly on an enemy, the equipper gains a buff that increases Anomaly Proficiency by 46, stacking up to 4 times. This effect expires when the target recovers from Stun or is defeated. The duration of each stack is calculated separately.
Base ATK: 594 | Anomaly Proficiency: 75
For every 10 Energy consumed, the equipper gains a buff that increases ATK by 2.5/2.8/3.2/3.6/4% for 10s, stacking up to 10 times. The duration of each stack is calculated separately.
Lastly, we have the two F2P Anomaly Engines that you can craft to (5) easily. Without going into too much detail, Weeping Gemini is usually the preferred Engine. It will perform even better in Disorder teams where you can build up the passive even faster.
Yanagi doesn’t appear to be a high Energy consumption Agent, so the Rainforest passive won’t be amazing on her, but a nice bonus if you have nothing better.
ZZZ Yanagi Drive Disc
- 4-pc
- Chaos Jazz (Generalist Approach/Efficient to farm)
- Hormone Punk (Solid Option)
- Thunder Metal (Potential Best Option with specific rotations)
- 2-pc
- Chaos Jazz
- Freedom Blues
- Thunder Metal
- Puffer Electro (If building toward 100% PEN Ratio)
- Swing Jazz
- 2-pc/2-pc/2-pc
- Any of the above sets
While we don’t know the full details of Yanagi’s kit, I’m quite confident in saying that there is no perfect Disk Set for Yanagi. The three main options people will consider for 4-pc are Chaos Jazz, Freedom Blues, and Thunder Metal. Let’s go over each one and cover potential upsides.
Chaos Jazz
- 2-pc: Anomaly Proficiency +30
- 4-pc: Fire DMG and Electric DMG are increased by 15%. When off-field, DMG dealt by EX Special Attacks and Assist Attacks is increased by 20%. When the character switches back onto the field, this buff continues for 5s. The lasting effect can be triggered once every 7.5s.
Firstly, Chaos Jazz will provide an unconditional 15% Electric DMG which is good. The other passive effect grants 20% EX Special DMG when off-field, which Yanagi doesn’t do.
However, this 20% buff will linger for 5s upon switching in. So as long as you switch into Yanagi before using EX Special (which you usually will do anyway), you’ll get a total of 15% Electric DMG and 20% EX Special Attack DMG. (You also get 20% Assist DMG, but that won’t benefit you too much in the grand scheme of things)
Yanagi naturally has 10% Electric DMG in her kit and many will use 30% Electric DMG Disk 5. As such, the DMG% from Chaos Jazz is solid, but not amazing. (If you use PEN Ratio 5, the DMG buff from Chaos Jazz will be a bit relatively stronger, but it’s a small difference.
In a Disorder team, you generally will want to Burn with Burnice, switch into Yanagi, and use EX Special Attack to trigger Polarity Disorder. What we don’t know is how much damage EX Special is compared to the rest of Yanagi’s kit. As an on-fielder, Yanagi will use most of her kit, but EX Special may contribute to a majority of her Anomaly Buildup. If this is the case, Chaos Jazz is a solid option with a small play requirement of timing your EX Special after switching.
One last consideration. Chaos Jazz is very efficient to farm since the dungeon also gives Proto Punk (good Support/Defense set). Chaos Jazz is also Burnice’s best Disc set. Because of this, farming the set for both Yanagi and Burnice will be an efficient use of resources, even if the damage is slightly worse than other options.
Hormone Punk
- 2-pc: Increases ATK by 10%.
- 4-pc: Upon entering or switching into combat, the equipper has their ATK increased by 25% for 8s. This effect can be triggered once every 20s.
Hormone Punk is the other set that has a solid bonus. 10% ATK along with 25% Combat ATK is a strong buff. The main consideration is that you need to play Yanagi in a specific manner to optimize this set.
When switching, you have 8 seconds to buildup as much Anomaly as you can to make use of the 25% ATK buff. From there, you will need to wait 20s (or 12s from end of buff) to reapply the passive and repeat.
In a Disorder team, you will often look to switch between Yanagi and Burnice, so this set has a good effect that isn’t too difficult to utilize.
Thunder Metal (Disorder)
- 2-pc: Electric DMG +10%.
- 4-pc: As long as an enemy in combat is Shocked, the equipper’s ATK is increased by 28%.
Without a doubt, Thunder Metal provides the strongest buff with 28% ATK (Combat ATK). However, the conditions for it make it tough to play around in a Disorder team. In order to make use of the 28% ATK buff, Yanagi will need to attack the enemy while they are Shocked. But in a Disorder team, the goal is to alternate Anomaly effects to constantly proc Disorder.
You can still utilize Thunder Metal in a Disorder team, but you’d need to change your rotation to look like this:
- Use Burnice to Burn the enemy
- Use Yanagi to Shock the enemy and trigger Disorder (removing Burn and Shocking the enemy)
- Continue using Yanagi to build up Shock, but do not proc (Second Shock buildup has 28% ATK buff)
- Use Burnice to Burn and trigger Disorder (removing the 1st Shock)
- Use Yanagi to quickly proc the already built up Shock (buffed) and trigger Disorder (removing Burn)
- Continue building up shock with buff, but not proccing
- Use Burnice to Burn and trigger Disorder (removing the 2nd Shock)
- Repeat step 5 and on
In order to optimize the Thunder Metal buff in a Disorder team, you have to be extremely on top of your rotations. If you accidentally Burn or Shock too quickly, you lose out on a lot of damage and have to fix the rotation for optimal damage.
Note: By using the Swap/Switch mechanic, you can build up Shock without proccing. For example, if I EX Special on Yanagi and swap to Burnice immediately, Yanagi can continue her animation and build the Shock up to 100% without proccing since Burnice is on field. The reverse is generally not true since Burnice has her Afterburn damage that can proc Burn while she is off field, so be careful of that.
If we assume perfect play, Thunder Metal has potential to be the strongest set on Yanagi, but other factors come into play as well. If the enemy phases (like Butcher) or has multiple waves, you need to reset your rotation from the start, decreasing the overall gain from the set.
Furthermore, if you’re looking to speedrun, Hormone Punk will can be active from the start of the fight, while Thunder Metal will have no buff for your first Shock.
Thunder Metal (Mono Electric / Hyper Carry)
Lastly, Thunder Metal will be Yanagi’s best set if you plan to use her in a Mono Electric/Hyper Carry set up. I’ll cover example teams down below, but basically, instead of using Disorder, you go all in on buffing Yanagi.
This is viable due to her Polarity Disorder mechanic. In this team, you will lose out on damage if you reapply Shock too quickly, but Polarity Disorder helps make up for it. Hyper Carry also lets you look toward pairing her with a Stunner instead, and using her more like a Burst DPS.
In these teams, the enemy will almost always be Shocked, so you can count on Thunder Metal giving you a constant 28% ATK.
ZZZ Yanagi Drive Disc Stats
Main Stats
- 4: Anomaly Proficiency/ATK%
- 5: Electric DMG%/PEN Ratio%
- 6: Anomaly Mastery/ATK%
For the general recommended build, I would just go Anomaly Proficiency 4, Electric DMG 5, and Anomaly Mastery 6. PEN Ratio might be better than Electric DMG, but that depends on your build and team.
Napkin Math: If you are already using Rina and Fusion Compiler, PEN Ratio 5 will perform marginally better than Electric DMG 5. (This is not universally true across characters, but specifically because Yanagi doesn’t have lots of increased DMG% sources)
Lastly, ATK% on 4/6 are good options if you plan to play Hyper Carry Yanagi/Mono Electric.
Substats
- Anomaly Proficiency
- ATK%
- ATK/PEN
- Crit Rate/Crit DMG
When it comes to substats, things are mostly the same as other Anomaly Agents. Anomaly Proficiency gives a large multiplier to Shock/Disorder, while ATK% is good as well. Flat ATK and PEN are also beneficial, but not major. Lastly, Crit Rate and Crit DMG aren’t the goal, but they still provide offensive stats over HP/DEF.
Yanagi Skill Priority
Core Skill > EX Special ≈ Chain Attack > Basic Attack >> Assist >> Dodge
Almost every Agent looks to level up their Core Skill first. This increases their base stats and upgrades their Core Passive. Since Yanagi is Anomaly based, her skill levels don’t actually matter too much. However, EX Special and Ultimate levels scale the Polarity Disorder damage, so those are important to level up higher.
You still want to level up Basic Attack for small damage increases and Daze multipliers. Assist shouldn’t be a priority, but you likely will still use it to quickly swap in and go straight into Basic 3.
Lastly, I don’t recommend leveling Dodge unless you’re a completionist. You generally will want to be blocking attacks with Special Attack rather than Dodge to switch stances and maintain your buffs.
ZZZ Yanagi Teams
Now that we have a better idea of how Yanagi works, here’s a list of a few teams.
Yanagi Burnice Disorder (with a splash of Stun from Caesar)
[ZZZ Burnice Guide] [ZZZ Caesar Guide]
As mentioned throughout this article, Burnice will likely be Yanagi’s best teammate. Her Burn application is very fast and she can also slowly accumulate it while off-field with her Afterburn. This team looks to constantly proc Disorder to frontline the Shock/Burn damage and mow down enemies with ease.
When it comes to the last utility slot, Caesar is generally the best option. While it’s true that Caesar’s 1000 ATK buff only applies to the on-field Agent, she just provides so much. On top of the 1k ATK buff, she has a 25% enemy DMG taken debuff, good Daze application, and an Anti-Interrupt Shield.
You also will get a decent amount of buff time on Burnice when you use her EX Special and Enhanced Basic Attack. You won’t buff her Afterburn damage, but that’s ok.
Note: Caesar’s 25% damage debuff does not snapshot into Anomaly. To get value from it, the debuff needs to be active when you trigger Disorder.
[ZZZ Lucy Guide] [ZZZ Rina Guide] [ZZZ Seth Guide]
If you don’t have Caesar or want to use her on your other team, you can look to run Lucy/Rina/Seth. Lucy and Rina will provide buffs to the entire team instead of just one Agent, but Seth’s shield and 100 AP buff will only apply to one Agent.
Lucy and Rina are both good options outside of Caesar, while Seth is generally better for Jane than for this specific Disorder team. As mentioned in the build section, if you have Rina, other PEN Ratio sources become relatively stronger, but that doesn’t mean going all in is necessarily optimal.
Mono Electric / Hyper Carry
With Polarity Disorder, Yanagi should be pretty viable in non-Disorder teams as well. In this setup, you can use any mixture of Electric/Support/Defense Agents to further empower Yanagi. The one downside of Electric teammates is that they will also contribute to the Anomaly buildup, lowering the overall damage of the Shock.
Overall, many Agents will contribute to Yanagi’s personal damage, so you can mix and match depending on who you have, or even who you just want to use.
- Seth: 100 AP and 20% Anomaly RES Shred / Downside: Electric
- Grace: Shock DMG multiplier 18-36% / Downside: Electric
- Rina: Up to 30% PEN Ratio / Downside: Electric
- Caesar: 1000 ATK, Anti Interrupt Shield, 25% Enemy DMG Taken debuff
- Lucy: 600 ATK
Stun / Burst DPS
[ZZZ Koleda Guide] [ZZZ Lycaon Guide]
Lastly, let’s cover the Stun archetype using Yanagi as a Burst DPS. With these teams, you can time your Polarity Disorders to the Stun Window to get a higher DMG multiplier.
This style of team also reduces the overlapping Shock issue, as you spend more time on-field with a Stunner than just Yanagi. Unfortunately, Qingyi/Anby are also Electric, which means their Daze buildup will nerf the Shock damage you try to buildup with Yanagi. As such, Koleda/Caesar are potentially ideal in this position.
Lastly, there’s one more consideration when using a Stunner. If you didn’t know, Anomaly generally “snapshots” damage as you build it up. For example, if you build up half a Shock with Seth’s buff (100 AP), and the other half without, the total damage will reflect that. Half of the Shock damage will take into account the 100 AP you had with Seth’s shield.
However, the Stun DMG Multiplier (usually 1.5x) is an exception. The Stun DMG multiplier does not affect the Anomaly calculation. Instead, any damage that is triggered during the Stun Window from Anomaly gets the 1.5x multiplier.
So for example, if you Shock the enemy before Stunning, each tick might do 1000 damage. If you stun the enemy, that same shock will start to tick for 1500 damage. Vice versa is true. If you shock an enemy during the Stun Window, it might tick for 1500. Once the enemy recovers from Stun, that tick will only be for 1000.
The same is true for Disorder damage.
All in all, when using a Stun team with Yanagi, you want to try and trigger her Polarity Disorder (and Disorder if using the Burnice/Caesar team above) during the Stun Window. Missing this timing will result in a massive loss of damage if you can’t build up Anomaly quickly enough to trigger during the window.
In Conclusion
This wraps up our initial guide on ZZZ Yanagi. As with all of our early guides, there’s still more to learn once Yanagi becomes available and we can do more in-depth testing. This guide has been written with knowledge on Yanagi’s kit and theorycrafting potential builds and teams.
Overall, Yanagi looks to be our first strong DoT based Anomaly On-Fielder. Burnice’s Burn is DoT, but she plays a Off-field/Sub-DPS role, while Jane and Piper are both Physical, so their damage isn’t DoT. Grace can technically be an on-field DoT Anomaly Agent, but her on-field kit is lacking compared to others. (Energy reliant)
Since Shock and Burn both are DoT based, they have the high base Anomaly multipliers. Disorder will likely be Yanagi’s best team, as you get the upfront damage from Shock/Burn without needing to wait.
Even if you don’t have Burnice, Polarity Disorder seems to allow for other teams, although they likely won’t hit the same ceilings as Disorder. As more Anomaly Agents come out, this style of Dual DPS Disorder teams may only get better. You can then also mix and match elements based on the enemies you face.
