Defense

ZZZ has just teased their latest character, Caesar, who will be coming in Version 1.2. While there are still many unknown parts of her kit, the 1.2 Special Program revealed a few details we can build upon.

We’ve seen Defense characters provide utility for the team both offensively and defensively. In a sense, they’re basically Support Agents that provide some defense as well.

As the first S-Rank Defense character, Caesar will likely provide unmatched utility compared to the current available options. (Ben, Seth, Nicole, Soukaku, etc)

ZZZ Caesar Release Date

Caesar will release September 25th with the release of Version 1.2. She will be in the first half banner as the limited S-Rank Agent alongside Piper and Anton.

ZZZ Caesar Skills

Kit Overview

Caesar has a “Perfect Block” mechanic which allows her to essentially parry enemy attacks, but more easily. From there, you can chain from a Perfect Block into a Special/EX Special Attack.

Additional Ability (AA)

Like every other Agent, Caesar will activate her AA with another Sons of Calydon Agent on the team. However, you can also activate her AA by having ANY Agent that can Defensive Assist on your team. This means any melee unit (and Nicole) can be used alongside Caesar.

By using Defensive Assist or Perfect Block, Caesar will debuff enemies, making them take more DMG from your entire squad.

Core Passive: Anti-Interrupt Shield + ATK Buff

Caesar will generate her shield through a variety of methods like EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, Ultimate, and some others. This shield grants a 1000 ATK buff at max level and grants anti-interrupt.

This Anti-Interrupt will allow you to tank enemy attacks without being launched or flinched, making it great quality of life. The ATK buff will also be very nice depending on how large it is.

Core Skills Zenless Zone Zero Core Passive

Core Passive: Barrier of Resilience (Max Level)

When Caesar activates EX Special Attack: Parry Counter, Chain Attack, Ultimate, or triggers EX Special Attack: Overpowered Shield Bash through Retaliation, she buffs the entire team with a Radiant Aegis shield equal to 1400% of her base Impact +1400 The shield lasts for 90s and is equipped by the on-field character, with its value shared among the entire team. Any single instance of DMG will not exceed the Shield value.

While Radiant Aegis is active, the shield bearer’s Anti-Interrupt level is increased, and their ATK is increased by 1000. After Radiant Aegis expires, the buff remains for an additional 5s.

Additional Ability: Battle Spirit

When there is another character in your squad who can activate Defensive Assist or is from the same Faction:

When Caesar activates Perfect Block, Retaliation, Defensive Assist, or Basic Attack: Dead End, she applies a Debuff effect to enemies within a 7m radius, increasing the damage they take from all teammates by 25% for 30s.

This skill excels at parrying enemy attacks and reduces the consumption of Assist Points when the character is under intense attacks. Character is invulnerable while using this skill.

Assist Follow-Up: Aiding Blade

After activating Defensive Assist, press Basic Attack to activate: Tosses the shield forward, unleashing a powerful spinning attack on enemies in front, followed by a slash that deals Physical DMG. After using the skill, Caesar enters a guard stance, reducing incoming damage by 40%. When attacked by an enemy Caesar blocks with the shield and gets slightly knocked back. Press Special Attack or Special Attack to trigger Retaliation, activating Special Attack: Roaring Thrust or EX Special Attack: Overpowered Shield Bash.

When Retaliation is triggered, Caesar is invulnerable while using the skill.

EX Special Attack: Parry Counter

With enough energy, press Special Attack to activate: Strikes forward with the shield, followed by a powerful thrust, dealing massive Physical DMG.

Caesar ZZZ Mindscape Cinema

ZZZ Caesar Mindscape Cinema

M1 Spearhead Advance: When Caesar enters combat or switches in, she instantly buffs the entire team with a Radiant Aegis shield, which can be can be triggered once every 300s. While Radiant Aegis is active, enemies within a 5m radius of the shield bearer suffer a 15% Attribute DMG RES reduction.
M2 Legacy of the Far Lands: While Radiant Aegis is active during Core Passive: Barrier of Resilience, Caesar’s Energy Generation increases by 10%, and the shield bearer’s attack boost is increased to 150% of its original value.
M3 Absolute Trust: Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2
M4 Aries the Battering-Ram: When Caesar uses a Chain Attack or Ultimate, she gains 3 additional Assist Points. If her Energy is below 20, she can activate EX Special Attack: Overpowered Shield Bash with 1 Assist Point instead. This substitution can only be triggered once every 5s.
M5 Romantic Conquest: Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2
M6 Overlord’s Will: EX Special Attack: Overpowered Shield Bash and Assist Follow-Up is guaranteed to trigger a critical hit. The skill’s DMG is increased by 50% with an additional damage of 50% dealt to the primary target. When Caesar uses EX Special Attack: Overpowered Shield Bash or Assist Follow-Up, her CRIT Rate is increased by 30% and her CRIT DMG is increased by 60% for 15s.

It’s very tough to determine the “value” of a Mindscape when ZZZ is still a fairly new game. In general, Mindscapes provide good value, but there aren’t enough Agents released to determine a good baseline for what’s good.

Both of Caesar’s M1 and M2 provide more utility for the team. 15% Attribute DMG RES reduction is a great multiplier to have, and her M2 increases her Attack boost to 1500.

M4 and M6 are hefty investments, so I don’t recommend going for these Mindscapes unless you really want to. M4 allows you to bypass Energy restrictions and use Assist points instead, while M6 turns Caesar into a stronger DPS.

Caesar ZZZ Build Guide Overview

ZZZ Caesar Build Banner

Caesar’s kit scales with Impact, making her a hybrid Stun/Support Agent with Defense capability. If you don’t have the resources, you don’t need to worry too much about investing into Caesar, as her build requirements are generally low compared to DPS characters.

The Attack buff will scale with her Core Passive, so prioritize getting that and levels up before focusing on Disks.

W-Engine

  • Tusks of Fury (Signature)
  • Spring Embrace (Battle Pass)
  • Any Stun W-Engine with Impact Stat

Drive Disc

  • Proto Punk (4)
    Shockstar Disco (2)/Swing Jazz (2)/Fanged Metal (2)

Main Stat

  • (4) Crit Rate/Crit DMG
  • (5) Physical DMG%
  • (6) Impact

Substats

  • Crit Rate/DMG
  • ATK%
  • ATK/PEN

ZZZ Caesar Best W-Engines

Tusks of Fury

Tusks of Fury

The Shield value provided by the equipper increases by 30%. When any squad member triggers Interrupt or Perfect Dodge, all squad members’ DMG increases by 18% and Daze dealt increases by 12% for 20s. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.

Tusks of Fury is a great W-Engine, and it provides a solid DMG/Daze increase for the entire team. It also has an Impact Main Stat which will help scale Caesar’s shield.

However, I don’t think this W-Engine should take priority over one for your Main DPS. Caesar will be a flexible Agent for many teams, but if you want immediate power, buffing up your Main DPS generally will provide more.

If you already have a good W-Engine for your Attack/Anomaly Agents, then Tusks of Fury will be a nice upgrade to go for next.

Spring Embrace

Spring_Embrace

Reduces DMG taken 7.5%. When attacked, the equipper’s Energy Generation Rate increased by 10% for 12s. When the equipper switches off-field, this buff will be transferred to the new on-field character with its duration refreshed. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.

Spring Embrace is the Battle Pass exclusive Defense W-Engine, and it’s a solid W-Engine assuming the passive synergizes with Caesar’s Perfect Block mechanic. If Perfect Block doesn’t trigger the passive, then this Engine shouldn’t be considered.

Spring Embrace has ATK% Main Stat, which isn’t the best, but it’s not bad either. The passive providing Energy for both Caesar and another Agent on your team is the main selling point of this Engine.

Any Stun W-Engine with Impact Stat

The_Restrained

If you’re a F2P player, don’t worry too much about the Tusks of Fury or Spring Embrace. You can simply equip any Stun Engine that has an Impact Main Stat.

This will help you scale Caesar’s shield and also compliment her role as a pseudo Stun Agent. There are plenty of options for Impact Engines, so just use what you have.

ZZZ Caesar Drive Disc

ZZZ Proto Punk Reveal

Proto Punk

  • 2-Pc: Shield effect +15%
  • 4-Pc: When any squad member triggers a Defensive Assist or Evasive Assist, all squad members deal 15% increased DMG, lasting 10s. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.

Proto Punk is a new Drive Disc set releasing in Version 1.2. This set looks to be a perfect choice for Agents like Caesar and Seth. Swing Jazz is currently the default “Support” set, providing a 15% DMG buff when the holder launches a Chain Attack/Ultimate.

Proto Punk has a slightly shorter duration, but a much easier condition to fulfill. You can almost have full uptime on this 15% DMG buff as Defensive/Evasive Assists are easy to trigger during fights.

However, when the enemy is stunned, you won’t be able to trigger a Perfect Assist, so that is something to consider as well.

For teams like Jane, you can opt to run Caesar and forgo a Stun Agent. With this setup, you get the nice 15% DMG buff and don’t worry too much about stunning the enemy.

This concept will apply to any team that doesn’t use a Stun Agent. This could mean that Caesar can replace a Stun Agent on teams, enabling more “Hyper Carry” teams. However, her buffs are still great, so you can still slot her into other teams as well.

ZZZ Caesar Drive Disc Stats

Main Stat

  • (4) Crit Rate/Crit DMG
  • (5) Physical DMG%
  • (6) Impact

Substats

  • Crit Rate/DMG
  • ATK%
  • ATK/PEN

When it comes to stats, there isn’t too much you need to worry about. Just use Impact on Partition VI and fill out the rest of the stats with damage.

Similar to other Support/Defense Agents, offensive stats will be a nice bonus, but not a priority over your Main DPS.

Caesar Skill Priority

Almost every Agent looks to level up their Core Skill first. This increases their base stats and upgrades their Core Passive.

Core Passive >> EX Special > Assist >> Chain Attack > Basic > Dodge

EX Special will be a large part of Caesar’s kit, triggering Perfect Blocks and applying Daze. After that, Assist will be nice to upgrade to increase the Daze multiplier of your Defensive Assist and Assist Follow Up.

After that, Chain Attack is nice boost for damage, but not a priority. The same goes for Basic Attack and Dodge.

This is assuming you utilize Caesar as a utility Agent. If you want to have Caesar be your main on-fielder, you’ll want to level up most of her skills.

ZZZ Caesar Teams

When it comes to teams, Caesar is quite the flexible Agent. She empowers many different types of teams, and depending on your account, she can be a major pickup.

Jane Caesar Burnice Team

ZZZ Jane Caesar Burnice Team

[ZZZ Jane Doe Guide][ZZZ Burnice Guide]

This team is the first team that everyone has their eyes on. From the Special Program, we know that Burnice is able to deal damage while off-field, which synergizes perfectly with Jane Doe.

From there, Caesar provides a ton of utility for both Burnice and Jane, making a powerhouse team. This is to be expected since all three Agents are limited.

All things considered, it’s likely that Burnice is more important for Jane since Seth/Lucy are strong options over Caesar. Grace is an option instead of Burnice, but we haven’t seen Grace + Jane perform as a great duo.

Ellen Caesar Team

ZZZ Ellen Caesar Soukaku Team

[ZZZ Ellen Guide] [ZZZ Soukaku Guide]

Another Agent that benefits a lot from Caesar is Ellen. With both Caesar and Soukaku, Ellen can get a whopping 2000 ATK buff. While mixing buffs like Crit or DMG% will scale better, 2000 ATK is still a giant buff.

Furthermore, Ellen has high multipliers on her later hits of her combo. Being interrupted results in a small DPS loss, which Caesar fixes. Her shield will grant you anti-interrupt, allowing you to face tank everything while being unbothered.

Lastly, Ellen is not a Burst DPS like Zhu Yuan, so she is not as reliant on a Stun Agent. While Caesar can stun enemies just as fast as some stunners, it’s not the core priority of her kit.

Lycaon and Qingyi both want to stun enemies to provide a large Stun DMG multiplier buff. This playstyle works very well with Zhu Yuan, but Ellen and Jane both have good DPS uptime, allowing them more team building freedom.

If you already have Lycaon or Qingyi on your Ellen team, you can also replace Soukaku with Caesar. You lose out on some Ice buffs that Soukaku gives, but you get a DMG buff and anti-interrupt in return.

Nekomata

ZZZ Nekomata Caesar Nicole Team

[ZZZ Nekomata Guide] [ZZZ Lucy Guide]

Nekomata is another Agent that benefits from Caesar. There aren’t too many great Nekomata teammates outside of Qingyi. With Caesar, Nekomata gets a nice ATK buff and another Physical teammate to apply Assault.

Nekomata deals more damage with her EX Special when anyone triggers Assault, so having strong Physical teammates are nice to pair with her.

Soldier 11

ZZZ Soldier 11 Caesar Lucy Team

 [ZZZ Soldier 11 Guide]

Just like Nekomata, Soldier 11 also benefits from a strong utility Agent. Before Caesar, the popular Soldier 11 teams were:

  • Soldier 11, Qingyi, Lucy
  • Soldier 11, Piper, Lucy

With the release of Caesar, Soldier 11 will have another strong team option. You could potentially do Soldier 11, Caesar, Qingyi as well, opting to not run Lucy. However, you do want to have a Fire teammate to have consistent Burn uptime for Inferno Metal.

Lastly, Soldier 11 does deal more damage to Stunned enemies, so Qingyi could theoretically be a better teammate for Soldier 11 than Caesar. Even still, Caesar looks to be a great teammate for Soldier 11 as she builds into Impact as well.

Caesar Lucy + 1 (Billy/Piper/Corin)

ZZZ Billy Caesar Lucy Team

[ZZZ Lucy Guide]

If you’re just starting ZZZ, the combination of Caesar + Lucy will be great to empower just about any Agent in the game. Everyone will also be able to get a free copy of Lucy in Version 1.2.

With the these two Agents, you’ll get a massive ATK buff, a DMG buff from Caesar, and Anti-Interrupt level.

While this core won’t synergize perfectly with every Agent (Ellen/Anton), it’ll be a solid core for many Agents. Outside of the teams we mentioned already, some A-Rank options that will work well are Billy, Piper, and Corin.

In Conclusion

agent-record-caesar-king-v0-sjarz97vkyhd1

This concludes our introductory Zenless Zone Zero Caesar Guide.

We only have brief information on Caesar’s kit, but she already looks very impressive. If you’ve played Genshin Impact, she is very similar to Zhongli, while also providing an ATK buff like Bennett.

These two aspects make her a very unique Agent, providing comfort, defense, and offense.

While I wouldn’t call her powercreep or overpowered, Caesar definitely sets the bar for any future S-Rank Defense/Support Agent to match.
